I assume you're referring to the popularity of True Detective, primarily. Which I really loved.

I grew up writing noir detective parodies. God, I bet they are all so incredibly shitty.

Sadly, I'm not remotely getting my expectations for this film to get into awards season at all. *Maybe* screenplay. Best Actor is going to be too much a dogfight with too many heavyhitters (who don't deserve it imo) for Gyllenhaal to sneak in. I'll be popping bubbly if he does though-- really, I only need him and Oyelowo to get into the category. (Admittedly, having seen Cumberbatch or Redmayne yet.)
