681366, Movies that you've walked out of.
Posted by spades, Fri Jun-27-14 12:32 PM
I generally don't walk out of movies on principle. I want to get my money's worth but there have been a few times.

Ride Along - I just couldn't do it. It was too much and too little all at the same time.

Scary Movie 4: Ugh. That's all I got, Ugh.

What about y'all?

681369, none, never
Posted by howisya, Fri Jun-27-14 12:42 PM
closest i probably came was freddie got fingered, but i stayed. i've had experiences ruined by fellow moviegoers' behavior, but i don't leave the theater during the movie, not even to snitch. i have no qualms with asking for a refund, however. as far as leaving a movie because it was bad, i just can't do it, but i rarely if ever see movies on the big screen i don't like on some level just because i know my tastes well enough and don't get dragged to really rotten ones.
681374, me either...i thought about it once...

Posted by JFrost1117, Fri Jun-27-14 03:52 PM
Yeah, I always stay. Though, I wish I had known "Passion of the Christ" was subtitled beforehand. I had already copped tix, then got news my grandparents had both passed. I would've waited to rent if I knew I had to read a whole damn movie.
681410, I didn't see this in the theater...
Posted by Anonymous, Fri Jun-27-14 09:59 PM
>closest i probably came was freddie got fingered,

but I would've walked out.

Worst movie I have ever seen.
681424, RE: I didn't see this in the theater...
Posted by howisya, Sat Jun-28-14 09:44 AM
it's easily the worst i've seen in the theater. the only worse movie to me may be aliens vs. predator 2.
682474, RE: I didn't see this in the theater...
Posted by iNde, Fri Jul-18-14 09:25 PM
waattt that movie couldnt have been THE WORST.. i mean i would never pay to see it but it wasnt bad.. what about sharknado, any of the scary movies after the 2nd... Number one offender is/was/and will always be....... "The Master" with f'n Jaoquin Phoenix n the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman
684868, Have you ever gotten a refund?
Posted by spirit, Thu Sep-04-14 02:11 PM
I tried that once and got turned down flat.

http://wutangbook.com
684869, yes
Posted by howisya, Thu Sep-04-14 02:32 PM
it's not something that happens often, and i haven't been turned down. if i tried it every time i saw or heard an idiot's cellphone during the movie, which would be every movie, then i expect i would be routinely turned down because that has become the norm.

EDIT: no refund, just a replacement ticket, which i look at as the same. i've yet to have an experience so negative i wouldn't come back, and i think the replacement ticket would be good at all locations of the chain anyway.
684875, When it tried it, it was for a sound issue
Posted by spirit, Thu Sep-04-14 02:57 PM
They said the movie was made like that. It was "Just Another Girl on the IRT." Sound was atrocious, but I don't know if it was the theater where I saw it or the movie itself, like I was told. I've never gone to that theater before or since.

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)
http://wutangbook.com
684876, sound might be trickier especially if you haven't seen the film before
Posted by howisya, Thu Sep-04-14 03:09 PM
unless the sound was so low you can't make out the dialog, which i find hard to believe any studio would put out.

my issues resulting in a free pass other than moviegoer bad behavior have been visual (reply 92), which can be a lot more obvious than sound.

In order to make it on time, I had to park in a lot that was gonna charge every 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, I realized there was nothing tying these images in the slightest, and I needed to be stoned to enjoy it. I left, because it would've been more expensive to pay for that full parking than to burn my movie ticket.

NBK just felt like aimless, senseless violence and I couldn't stand it. Gravity bc I have an intense fear of being in space which I didn't know until I saw the movie. And I didn't care enough about Bullock's character to get thru. But my ride was loving the movie so I stayed. And closed my eyes for minutes at a time when it became too much.

I love Joe Morton as an actor but I couldn't take this movie. Went to see it when it was originally in the theatres. Fell asleep, woke up and left.

Tried again at a retrospective years later, same thing.

681387, you can't really call it walking out
Posted by janey, Fri Jun-27-14 02:53 PM
but I went to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age and about 2/3s of the way through I had to pee and I was by myself so I took my stuff with me and then I decided it wasn't worth going back into the theatre.

I know I've left movies early at film festivals from time to time, but when they're really bad I stay to the end just to be sure there's no redeeming qualities and to argue with the filmmaker if appropriate, and to write scathing notes to the film society.

we get to the theater & the sign outside the door says "Frida" so we go in thinking it's one of those things where the title's too long to fit on the sign.

we thought all the previews they were showing were a little weird, def not what the audience was really interested in but nobody really paid much attention.

Then the movie starts & it takes about 3 minutes for people to realize that this was actually the movie Frida & not Friday After Next. Damn near 90% of the audience get mad & walk out. Apparently the ticket booth messed up & gave everyone the wrong tickets.

681550, That Adam Sandler holiday movie, the cartoon
Posted by Wordman, Tue Jul-01-14 09:04 AM
Funny story.
My "friends" said they wanted to see the new Adam Sandler movie.
I thought they meant MAGNOLIA (as it was released about the same time).
I was hype. Most of my friends at that time had little interest in artsy movies (much less GOOD movies), so I thought this was them giving a shit about stuff I like.
We get to the theatre, they pull a "Surprise!" and show me the poster for the Adam Sandler cartoon movie.
Ever have that moment when you realize your friends know nothing about you? Yeah.
I sat through about half of that horrible movie before I just couldn't do the other half. I would lose respect for myself if I watched the rest of it.
I got out the theatre and waited for my "friends" in the lobby.
I'm pleased to report that I no longer talk to them and honestly don't remember their names.

Posted by Nodima, Sun Jul-06-14 10:38 AM
WRT First Contact, I was like five or six and really enjoyed the Next Generation TV show. My dad wanted to take me to see a movie and instead of whatever the children's movie was that day I begged him to let me see First Contact, a PG-13 movie. He told me he was worried I'd get scared and want to leave and it'd be a waste of money, but I insisted so in we went.

Maybe twenty minutes into the movie I was bawling and he carried me out.

WRT Scary Movie 3, the first time my friends and I saw that movie we legitimately had what may always be the best time I have in a movie theater with friends watching a comedy (it's either this or Superbad). Like, the movie was just unstoppably hilarious in a way none of us could really comprehend. We weren't sure why we were laughing so hard, we just were. So of course the following weekend rolls around and we HAVE to see it again...

only it turn out, the movie is terrible. Like, completely unfunny. Impossible to enjoy in any way a second time around. We left maybe 10-15 minutes into it.

I hated it but after having paid for the ticket I wouldn't have left. My brother's wife's two sisters (stay with me) were in town and wanted to see it which was shocking seeing as they're very prudish - we made an hour but then they couldn't take anymore so the 6 of us had to leave. It was a truly hideous film though.

I sat through the first Twilight (wife's pick) but am so tight with money, didn't want to leave even though I hated it. Also remember watchin a Jennifer Lopez film and wanting to throw my seat at the screen (was it called Angel Eyes?).

in what scenarios? i've only done it when it was the theater's fault. most recently it was when i saw nebraska, which was in black & white but had a distracting yellow halo/stain in the top left corner of the screen. i came to find out that that was a sign to the theater that it was time to maintain their digital projection, and they were embarrassed that they hadn't noticed it but i had. another time the overhead lights were on for the entire duration of the film, which meant that no usher ever came in to check until the end credits. at least a couple times i've also gotten passes for bad behavior from theatergoers, and i have to fight for them/plead my case. once i had a movie ruined by a peanut gallery of teenagers making comments during the whole movie, and other times it's just been people's obnoxious cell phones they won't put away. i chalk those up to insufficient patrolling by the ushers and a general lax and permissive attitude toward selfish behavior. i wouldn't feel entitled to a refund just because i didn't like the movie itself.

I was with a group of friends.

By the last twenty minutes we were all in agreement in saying fuck the rest of this film.

That was the only time. Now, considering the cost and all the effort it takes to actually get away and go see a movie? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit (c Clay Davis)

I will enjoy the AC and comfortable seating and just take a nap.

I have napped through many a movie since Batman and Robin:

Oceans 12
The Bourne Supremacy
Hellboy (the first, not Hellboy 2, which was terrific)
The Alice and Wonderland remake
Syriana

It's funny, it almost only happens with action/adventure stuff. I don't know what it is, once I recognize the plot formula or shit just seems mediocre or run-of-the-mill, sometimes I just check out immediately and start snoozing. Even if it's during a "thrilling' car chase or whatever, I'm just like Who cares zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."

But hell no, after finding free time, getting a babysitter, buying tickets, buying popcorn/drinks/candy...hell no, I am not walking out...

No.
684867, Several. Let's start with State of the Union: XXX
Posted by spirit, Thu Sep-04-14 02:10 PM
The movie I wanted to see was sold out. State of the Union: XXX was the next showing. Figured it couldn't be so bad. My date decided to take a nap in my lap and told me to wake her up if it got any better. It never did. I woke her up to leave.

Walked out on "The English Patient" because it was slow *and* predictable and I figured I had the ending mapped out halfway through, but didn't want to wait for it. Critics bamboozled me with that one.

Third one was "Who's The Man." I was young, impressionable and still supported any movie with rappers I liked in it. LOL.

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)
