meant to preview this before reading with the kids, but they saw it in my stack and went crazy knowing there was a Jeff Smith book about prehistoric humans... keep in mind that my oldest, when he was 5, told his buddy that God didn't invent humans, that humans evolved from Australopithecus.
So a book by Jeff Smith about a Homo Habilis leaving Africa, and running into some Erectus and even Australopithecus along the way? Evading Smilodons? Aforementioned Australopithecus bombarding aforementioned Erectus with monkey oranges? Right up the alley.
I liked it too - among other things, seeing Smith's artwork in color for the first time (? I think?) was pretty great; whoever did the coloring really nailed it. And the story - I'm not at all sure it'll remain suitable for family reading, or that my kids will have patience with his 4-books-a-year schedule, but I'm pretty confident I'll love it.
