Like I said... I don't have a problem with the design... it's just a weird choice to drape them in samurai gear when they are supposed to be ninjas....
671470, what does a teenaged turtle, who is also a ninja, look like?

I like them. There is no controversy. I had an opinion at how old the characters look and the gear they're wearing. It is not a big deal.

Again. For those in the back. I like it.

Also. These guys? http://serpentorslair.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/tmnt_series.jpg Look like teenagers.

671446, the design its alright

Johnny Knoxville, Tony Shalhoub Lend Voices To ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’

By MIKE FLEMING JR | Thursday April 3, 2014 @ 10:18am PDT

EXCLUSIVE: If the half-shell hero Leonardo sounds a bit like Bad Grandpa in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the half-pint sensei Splinter sounds like Monk, there’s good reason. Johnny Knoxville has just been added to voice the role of Leonardo, and Tony Shalhoub is voicing Splinter, the Yoda-like creature that teaches chop socky technique to the turtles. Now, Pete Ploszek played the role of Leonardo during the filming part, while Seinfeld‘s Danny Woodburn played Splinter. Insiders tell me they were always open to changing the voicing component of the Jonathan Liebesman-directed film that Paramount releases August 8, and those actors were only guaranteed to physically perform the roles in costume. But as it has proven with World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Noah, Paramount also is a studio that isn’t reticent to adding ingredients to the souffle after it has risen, and right up to the point where it’s ready to be served.

Am I missing sarcasm, because what else would a real life giant rat with a sword look like?

Posted by theprofessional, Thu Jul-31-14 02:44 AM
i get why they're doing it. nobody's gonna pay to watch a movie of guys in turtle costumes in 2014, but i actually prefer it. feels realer, makes the fight scenes better. some of the nunchuck play in the originals was downright inspirational, and it's stuff you can actually learn to do. the showcasing of martial arts weapons is one of the strongest things the turtles franchise has going for it. cgi-- specifically cgi in the hands of michael bay-- is gonna turn all that into video game silliness. transformers with turtles. i'm confident this movie will be terrible.

and will be first in line. *sigh*
683499, Not bad, but not good either. My childhood is still intact.
Posted by bwood, Wed Aug-06-14 10:45 PM
The Good:

-The Turtles are exactly how they should be except for their look. They still look like they came from the mind of a schizophrenic.

-The fights are fucking ill son. Except for the last one with Shredder on the rooftop. That veered of into Transformers 4 territory with how long and repetitive they got. Also, too much slow motion.

-Shit, I didn't even the mind the unnecessarily complex and jiggered retelling of their origins.

The Bad:

-Everything else

-The fucking plot.

-The mountain scene in general asks you to be that stupid to believe that Mount fucking Everest is 2 miles away from the city.

-Who the fuck is Shredder and why is he so fucking big?!

-Megan Fox improved as an actress. She is still fucking awful.

-Longest Pizza Hut commercial with a description of their new pizza given by Master Splinter as torture/integration .

-William Finchter's character should be titled Exposition Man.

-Will Arnet has nothing to do.

If you take little kids, they'll love it. Us adults won't mind it.

But why do that when you can both enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy?

Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Aug-11-14 10:52 AM
there were times where it came out incredibly cartoonish (which is to be expected. the comic book itself was like an inside joke come to life), but it had the right level of action and "edge" without being too over the top with it otherwise.

I can't speak on the sequels (my suspicion was that they were more cash grabby and kid-friendly). but that first one kind of defied expectations in a good way. I feel like the director actually gave a shit with that one.

also, if anyone hasn't seen the TMNT parodies by the dude who does the hilarious NBA Trash Talk parodies, you should watch them ASAP. that shit >>>>>>>> Teenage Mutant Ninja Noses.
683749, The sequels were cash grab. 2 would've been infinitely better had

This might be the nail in the coffin for me going to see the movie.

I still want to see it, b/c, well, it's the TMNT. But everything I've heard so far is NOT good, and the more trailers and clips I see, the more I am reminded of Transformers.

There's a buddy of mine who feels the same way, this might be one we just say fuggit and go see it to see how much of a travesty it is.

I did recently meet Kevin Eastman who told me that once everyone sees the turtles flipping around, they'll like it.
Me: "well, I hope it's good"

Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Aug-08-14 04:43 PM
The action is Liebesman-y. Looks fine, diverting enough, unmemorable.

The jokes never really hit. Michelangelo hits on Megan Fox, but that's not half as creepy as Will Arnett hitting on Megan Fox.

Fox is really terrible, btw. Worse than ever. She's out of her comfort zone here. And her face is looking overly made up and mighty stiff, so her expressiveness is... non-existent.

Still, it's short. There are one or two fun moments. The music is good. William Fichtner hams it up for his few scenes. Whoopi rolls into two scenes to do nothing and collect a check.
684185, Megan Fox has a comfort zone

683744, Way too much April; the turtles were hulks, not ninjas
Posted by kevlar skully, Mon Aug-11-14 11:19 AM

I was bored every time the turtles/splinter weren't on the screen which is basically the first 20 minuets of the movie. This was basically an April O'neal movie with some mutant hulks thrown in for action purposes. No-one need that much April or for her to be so interwoven into the turtles backstory.

They didn't screw up the turtles personalities which is mostly a testament to how strong the characters have been developed since the 1980s. Mikey brought the funny lines & I loved when Donnie used his bo staff to flip a truck, that was badass.

But I just don't understand why the turtles were seemingly bullet proof all over or why they were so big that they could destroy an armored vehicle just by smashing into it with their massive shells.. They should have used the awesome turtles designs from the "Out of the shadows" video game. Those are "realistic" mutant turtles designs that would have worked great in this movie, while allowing our favorite ninjas to still be fucking ninjas. Huge waste they didn't use those designs, imo.

They barely ,if at all, did any ninja shit like being fucking covert. They were too big to try to hide, I guess. Beyond a scene in the beginning at the docks, I don't remember any other night/sneaking unseen scenes. The whole movie was so bright, it felt like the exact opposite from the glorious 90s turtles movie that still kicks shell today, imo

It sucks that these shitty filmmakers can cash in with nostalgia while never even pretending to respect the source material. I grew up on the turtles and have seen them enjoy many different iterations, some versions adding something new to the franchise that damn near becomes canon(like loving pizza or colored headbands) while some versions added things so bad they will probably never be mentioned in any turtles anything again(Venus De Milo, the girl turtle)

The best versions of the turtles in my opine are the ones that can manage to play what works of the original gritty comic book with the fun & overly silly stuff from the first cartoon. IMO, the current cartoon on Nick probably does the best job of balancing the drama with the fun stuff. The Cartoon from the 2000s did a great job too, especially culminating in the kick ass "Turtles Forever" animated movie that anyone who loves the turtles should definitely watch. When I got home, "Turtles Forever" washed the bad taste out of my mouth after this latest Hollywood nostalgia cash in turtles movie.

So thankfully, they can't "ruin our childhood" by making one shitty nostalgia cash-in turtles movie; the turtles are too great to be ruined by this movie, not when Nickelodeon is airing one of the best turtles anything, ever, in any medium with their turtles show.

The real shitty part, beside me paying $9.75 to see this crap, is that they are almost certainly aiming to make this a trilogy & I definitely don't want to see April & her teenage mutant hulk turtle pets anymore, much less for two more forgettable films
683767, got damn...

$9.75? for some reason that makes sense considering the price of everything else nowadays, but that's still some PB&J

it's like gasoline.

yeah, I feel the same way though. Not just about movies like this, but Spiderman movies, Superman movies (Man of Steel is some boolsheet), etc. they do the animated shit way better than they do the live action shit. by far.

and now Marvel is out there just shitting on everyone else as far as that's concerned, ethering the idea that you can't do anything but the bare minimum and be profitable.

the bare minimum will always be profitable if people care enough about the property. but I don't like spending money on cheap beer if I can get a real good one for a few dollars more.
684113, I loved the Hulk turtles.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Aug-19-14 12:28 PM
In fact, I thought the turtles and Splinter were great. April was just fine too.

Everything else was trash, but they did a good job with those characters. I like that the turtles were large and physically imposing.

I think watching them try to refine their skills as ninjas through their bulk was part of the what little charm the film had to offer.

The story and the rest of the characters were terrible, but I really think they did a fine job with these particular elements.

No character development for the turtles. Almost no screentime. without April present.

Shredder might as well been a robot. No humanity, nothing tying him to the turtles at all.

The first 20 minutes.

Gob was useless.

Finally got a PG-13 movie in the franchise and they still can't use bladed weapons on anyone

Bullet proof turtles

Lack of ninja action

pros
Actually didnt hate Megan Fox too much
They kind of felt like teenagers

The Nick show is more riveting and lovingly crafted go watch that.
Or read the IDW comics. Doesn't look like the studio is going to change their formula after making bank like they are right now.

no, lol
>or know about the Turtles in general.

I now enough. C'mon dude. Do you really think they can turn TMNT into an epic like the dark night? lol
Imo, the studios did the right thing. TMNT would have flopped if they would have made it a serious flick.

This movie was so much like Transformers and the AMS2. All this shit is just lazy. They sure did not put a lot of effort into these films. Lazy script, lazy character development, cliches.

I guess it does not matter as long as money keeps rolling in.

The Turtles were fucking niggas up left and right.

And to say that after seeing this shitty film that you know everything about the Turtles is dumb as fuck.

Go back and watch that film from 1990. While it had some campy shit and some jokes, it's dark as fuck.

ok. lol I really just can't imagine that. lol

But i still say the studios would be taking a big risk if they stayed true to the comic. TMNT is basically for kids and teenagers.

My daughter said this would be a hit movie. Damn i should have listened. Perhaps my summer box office predictions would not have been so fucked up. lol
