"Murica likes its easily digestible (Read: not requiring much brain power) TV programs (See majority of sitcoms on CBS, as well as most of their Dramas). Hannibal is just too "Slow" and "Boring" for the average TV watcher. By and large 'Muricans are some basic ass bitches.
