661385, Brooklyn Nine Nine: Season 1
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Sep-17-13 11:35 PM
Laughed harder at this pilot than any network pilot since... Community, maybe?

Feels already like a procedural Parks & Rec. Tons of funny actors (Lo Truglio! Peretti!) and BRAUGHER POWER.
661394, I'm sold on Terry Crews.

Good to see Braugher on a show that looks like it has promise. Wish I could get home in time to watch it as it airs. Reading up on this show and the creators are from Parks and Rec. I've tried watching that show and didn't like it from the few minutes I've seen; is Parks and Rec. similar to this show from the first episode?
661406, parks and rec tried to be an office clone at first
Posted by sndesai1, Wed Sep-18-13 09:07 AM
since it found its voice in season 2, it's been stellar imo
661410, I call it a live action Simpsons.

In the sense that they have created a town with a wide cast of hilarious characters.

It's ... not unreasonable to just skip season one of Parks and Recreation. Some good stuff would get missed, but the characters don't really become themselves until season two.

Thanks. This is what I wanted more info on in terms of totally skipping the first season, but I didn't want this thread to get to bogged down with Parks and Rec. talk. I'm not entirely sure when I'll get the spare time to check out the old episodes of this show since the weekends are going to be GTAV time for me, but I'll try and check the show out since I've read so many good things about it.
661549, Cosign, I'd start with Practice Date, S02E04.

661797, That is crazy specific and I didn't bother to remember episode titles
Posted by Walleye, Mon Sep-23-13 10:00 AM
So I looked it up. Excellent call. That's a really good one and an actual introduction to the people behind the cardboard cutouts for Ron and Tom - and actually kind of does some new stuff with the Jerry joke.
661409, That was an awesome pilot.
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Sep-18-13 09:25 AM
Somewhat indebted to Psych (slacker is also the smartest) but that's cool.

I love love loved seeing the head dudes in charge were the brothers. Never seen a 1 and 2 both being black in a show (or at work).

Also loved that Andre Braugher's character had real nuance and wasn't just another door slamming boss ready to take someone's badge.

Entire cast seems great. They can do so much with this.

yeah. i get that psych vibe from it, too. and i've loved psych from the very beginning.

>
>I love love loved seeing the head dudes in charge were the

yeah. speaking of which, on sleepy hollow, last episode, every major character (on the good side) besides ichabod crane was black. abby, her sister, the chief, his wife, their daughter. that show's pretty amazing.

>
>Also loved that Andre Braugher's character had real nuance and

he definitely got a twist to him.

in addition to the other trope-busters (smart slacker), let us also add the gay 'straight man'.

And I'll stick with it 'cause I figure it will get better. Parks and Rec didn't get really good for a Lil bit either.
661454, I agree
Posted by ZooTown74, Wed Sep-18-13 03:35 PM
His "he's oh-so irreverent that everyone just finds him irresistible" schtick got annoying by the second act

To me, as of now Samberg's doing a pale Bill-Murray-in-an-Ivan-Reitman-movie imitation

Sorry, but it is

Good thing he's surrounded by nice ensemble and characters that are (or promise to be) more interesting than he is

The show should be fun

Samberg alone shit ain't funny.

but these other characters make the show worth watching to at least see what THEY DO week to week.

I was against this show at first because of Sandburg but dude killed it, along with the rest of the cast. Melissa Fumero does a better Aubrey Plaza than Aubrey Plaza.

I also agree with what everyone said about Andre Braugher and Terry Crews, both were great.

Also the introduction to the characters was amazing as well. I think this show is here to stay. Door and Schur know what they are doing.

I think Dads is canceled, then Raising Hope, Mindy Project and Brooklyn Nine Nine become FOX's comedy night...hell, they could take on Bob's Burgers to the lineup too...

wait, is Family Guy still on? add that to the *late spot* on Tuesday nights and FOX is golden.

They won't even miss Dads.

I'm stoked to see her in her new role as assistant to the CO, hopefully those two have a lot of screentime together, theyre the two of the dryest and most hilarious on the show.
662806, Is there any other show on TV that doesn't feature white men...
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Oct-02-13 09:14 AM
(of course excluding the ethnic shows)?

It just seems to me that it had to be a conscious decision that the two white men and the show are old befuddle useless butt of jokes. I mean I guess Joe Lo Truglio but dude is so ethnic he might as well be hispanic.

Yeah I know, racial politics permeates everything I see.

Samberg is still the star of the show and Terry Crews from what I've seen so far isn't that authoritative and it appears he will be ironically overly sensitive given how big he is, which is suppose could work if not driven into the ground. It's cool how diverse the show is without trying to be diverse for its own sake though.

For coming from a drama background, Braugher holds his on on this show very well so far. I hope this show lasts for him.
662833, There's 2 characters I pretty much hate on this show.

Fox’s ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Gets Full Season Order, Post Super Bowl Slot
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Friday October 18, 2013 @ 2:15pm PDT

This is probably the biggest vote of confidence ever bestowed on a freshman show that had just posted a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49 — Fox has given a Back 9 order to new comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine and has picked the Andy Samberg/Andre Brauer-starring show to air alongside New Girl after the network’s broadcast of Super Bowl XLVIII on Feb. 2, 2014. “It’s exciting to see that both critics and fans love BROOKLYN NINE-NINE as much as we do,” said Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly. “With Andy and Andre out in front of this incredible ensemble, it feels like this show is going to be around for a long time.”

Fox announced New Girl for the post-Super Bowl slot at the May upfront, noting that it would be joined by another comedy series. But then the network’s Tuesday comedy block premiered last month to meager ratings, with none of its new shows, the heavily promoted Brooklyn Nine-Nine or Dads, breaking out and New Girl and The Mindy Project both depressed in their return. New Girl is still strong with a massive DVR bump, but picking a companion looked like a toss-up. Reilly, never known to make decisions with the best interest of corporate sibling 20th Century Fox TV in mind (Terra Nova cancellation anyone?), picked the noisier Brooklyn Nine-Nine, produced by Universal TV, vs. the 20th TV-produced Dads, which draws similar ratings. CBS, for example, never does this, going with owned newbie Elementary last season vs. deserving blockbuster The Big Bang Theory, hit How I Met Your Mother or then-rising Person of Interest. Meanwhile, new drama Sleepy Hollow, from 20th TV, launched way bigger than any other new Fox series this fall, prompting the question whether the network could modify its post-Super Bowl plans. (that proved difficult because of all pre-sold New Girl upfront advertising. As for Fox’s other new comedy, Dads, no back order yet thought it has received a pickup for additional scrips, believed to be 6.

It had some HILARIOUS moments this season, but sometimes the juvenile act got a little old. I'm sure that will be adjusted in future seasons.

LOVE Gina & Rosa. Really liked Boyle's lil speech to Rosa last night lol
Holt is hilarious too. Every character has their thing, I pretty much like them all

I'd LOVE is Craig Robinson had more than that one episode but I'm sure he's working on other things

I just hope the plot line for getting Jake and Rosa out of prison next season isn't too half-brained.
