659846, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 9 on FX(X)
Posted by Marauder21, Wed Sep-04-13 08:49 PM
Starts tonight. Anyone else in?
659876, first ep was meh
Posted by walihorse, Thu Sep-05-13 07:38 AM
dennis being broken at the end was the only really funny part to me
659890, I thought Dee killed it
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Sep-05-13 09:35 AM
but this was a weirdly dark episode, even for Sunny.
659896, agreed
Posted by benny, Thu Sep-05-13 10:18 AM
broken Dennis was great, as was Dee at the start ("are you eating trash cake?"), but overall it felt a little off.
Still, good to have these jagoffs back on tv
660866, watch it twice. it gets better on the repeat viewing

659879, This episode was surprisingly good
Posted by John Forte, Thu Sep-05-13 08:04 AM
Every season I go into Sunny expecting it to jump the start. While not as brilliant as it was in say, season 4, it's far funnier than ANY sitcom in it's 9th season has any right to be.

Huell as landslide was pure gold as was Borat's manager.
659882, Anyone else sad to discover they don't have FXX?
Posted by Jayson Willyams, Thu Sep-05-13 08:43 AM
Step your game up, Verizon Brooklyn.
659926, DirecTV pulled a bait and switch
Posted by okaycomputer, Thu Sep-05-13 01:51 PM
They had it for free right off the bat and then on day two sent me an e-mail asking how I was enjoying my free trial of the "XTRA" package.

I hate all of these cable companies. I'd cut ties so fast if it wasn't for sports.

659932, RE: Anyone else sad to discover they don't have FXX?
Posted by Numba_33, Thu Sep-05-13 02:25 PM
>Step your game up, Verizon Brooklyn.

FXX is in package on Cablevision that will cost me an extra $10 a month. Sayonara to me watching Sunny, at least through my TV screen. I would imagine the ratings are going to take a hit this season since less people will have this new channel.

Interestingly enough, even if I had FXX, I would have missed Sunny because I was watching The Ultimate Fighter, which airs on another new (free!!) Fox cable channel, Fox Sports 1. And I believe Fox is coming with FXM, an FX channel for movies. Almost seems as if Fox is cannibalizing their own ratings, but I guess they must know what they are doing.
659933, I'm genuinely upset right now
Posted by walihorse, Thu Sep-05-13 02:48 PM
I check over my direct tv bill and I have this as a free trial for 3 months and the trail ends in two weeks!

I thought it was just an added thing... nothing extra needed.

direct tv says it's an addition 5 bucks a month for 30 extra channels, but I only want that one. 5 bucks extra ain't worth it for one channel

I can't wait for services switching to pay for custom channels. I would get rid of disney channel and bunch of other worthless shit so fast!
660808, i don't have it either
Posted by gumz, Fri Sep-13-13 07:43 AM
im fine with it though
659906, Did you guys see Utley? *link*

Dee killed it

@rob_starrk
660018, hilarious start
Posted by amplifya7, Fri Sep-06-13 10:04 AM
although i was slightly disappointed at the end that they made it all fake, Dee being wildly successful with the seriously depressed and filthy comedienne routine and Dennis's reality being shattered by her success could have been a great ongoing gag. Plus Dee actually was hilarious at first

LMAO @ Landslide, the guy who does the diarrhea jokes
660640, Felt like vintage Sunny there
Posted by Marauder21, Wed Sep-11-13 09:30 PM
With the Mac/Charlie vs Dennis and Dee set up.

This show is really great.
660799, The gun flip-flop.
Posted by Anfernee, Fri Sep-13-13 02:41 AM
Hilarious.

The first episode was aight.

But this one was awesome.
660850, Mac doing the side step with the sword was hilarious

2-2 for me
660882, lol @ all of em "being hot"
Posted by araQual, Sat Sep-14-13 08:29 AM
and hilarity at Frank actually getting at some serious issues about gun control, then turning around n makin a buck off it. but the genius part of it is, in either context, Frank's still the duper and not the dupee.

V.
660954, crazy it's still this funny in season 9

661469, So I just got real hot with Direct TV
Posted by walihorse, Wed Sep-18-13 07:02 PM
they told me it was part of a 6 month trail or other. Come to find today it was only 2 weeks for FXX.

so for fellow non FXX havers where are yall watching it?

....but reading the AV Club review, there was so much shit layered in there that, while I knew what they were going for, I totally missed.
661656, I didn't make that connection at all

Mac spazzing out.

Dee's bad comedic timing.

I really dug Charlie's song too.
661702, Charlie's song was AWESOME.
Posted by Taye DiggumSmacks, Sun Sep-22-13 10:44 AM
It was like Randy Newman singing a Cheers-type theme song.

clear sumthn up for me tho, cos i was too busy havn tears in my eyes to process the imagery, but Artemis was shoving a bottle up Frank's ass, right?

the amount of beneath-the-surface snarkery goin on was kinda brilliant too.

were they really stoned? If not that was some of the best "high" acting I've ever seen lol...

this episode was solid to me, had potential to be a classic but didn't get there

662986, word...most people don't even get the channel

seems like the numbers have almost dropped by half.

I wonder if there are more exact numbers.

what they should do is run an encore on the regular FX the next day or something.

I have no idea what the regular FX channel is showing at that time anyways.
663002, I can't imagine they would do that.
Posted by Ceej, Thu Oct-03-13 04:37 PM
663045, it's renewed for season 10, but 11 may be in doubt
Posted by araQual, Fri Oct-04-13 02:12 AM
from the above-posted wiki:

On March 28, 2013, FX announced the show would have a tenth season. Glenn Howerton stated that the possibility of future seasons depends on whether FX decides that the tenth season will be the last. President of FX Network John Landgraf says that possibility of Season 11 may come down to money: "It's become quite an expensive show to produce". On the other hand, creatively, Landgraf's happy: "What really surprises me is that I actually have seen in the last month some of the best episodes they've ever made, and I'm really shocked by how vital the show is creatively and how inspired they are at the moment," he said.

663934, no idea. they shoot most of it in and around la, not philly
Posted by RandomFact, Mon Oct-14-13 02:00 PM
half of the time you can look in the background when they are shooting outdoors and see the san gabriel mountains. the country mac ep is the latest example.

every year they produce a couple extravagant eps but they've earned it after nine years. if key and peele has the budget to produce cinematic shit every episode there is no reason why a network owned by fox can't fork over a few extra dollars.
665771, 9 years of salary increases above and below the line I imagine.

LOL @ the rats building them a house and making her a wedding dress.
663811, all of them were hilarious
Posted by mashpg89, Fri Oct-11-13 06:33 PM
I'd rank the fantasies: Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee, Frank

That was the best episode of the season so far, looking forward to the one directed by the GoT guys.
663813, obviously franks was a simple gag
Posted by amplifya7, Fri Oct-11-13 06:52 PM
but after how elaborate and absurd the first 3 were, Frank's had me laughing harder than any point in the episode, except when the balloons started coming out of charlie's house
663930, Mac's was the best overall, but I laughed hardest at Frank's
Posted by Grand_Royal, Mon Oct-14-13 01:06 PM
I really liked Charlie and Dee's, too, but Dennis' was way too weird lol
663860, anyone else get kinda sad at Charlie's one?
Posted by araQual, Sat Oct-12-13 10:47 PM
they consistently show a scene or two out of each season where Charlie ISN'T a raving antosocial lunatic, and there's always a big heart in there somewhere. i think in his head he's got the right ideas n stuff but he'll never have the execution down enuf to actually live out that kinda fantasy.

V.
663937, I did.
Posted by CaptNish, Mon Oct-14-13 02:25 PM
At first.

Until the balloons came out of the house. If it were just what he wishes happened in his future, it'd be one thing, but to know he was just playing out RATATOUILLE and UP as his "what if?" just made me laugh really hard.
664118, They are in a zone this season.
Posted by BrainChild, Thu Oct-17-13 08:17 AM
So glad they brought back the idea of the gang as a singing group.
664120, Yup. Ever single ep has been a winner.

Posted by Numba_33, Thu Oct-24-13 08:41 AM
was The Waitress having bright blonde hair, but that's not the show runner's fault or anything. Funny to go back and watch the episode a second time to see Charlie act a 'educated' fool.
664681, Woah, didn't know that
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Oct-24-13 08:50 AM
Loved Dennis, Dee and Mac huffing gasoline.
664682, RE: Woah, didn't know that
Posted by Numba_33, Thu Oct-24-13 09:17 AM
>Loved Dennis, Dee and Mac huffing gasoline.

Yeah, Rob Machellany (sp?) showed a picture of the Game of Thrones guy on the Sunny set before the season started on his twitter account if I'm not mistaken, so he spoiled it in a sense. The trio huffing was a nice throw back to the gang's earlier debaunchery days. I think it was Charlie that huffed spray paint for the infamous Dayman episode and Charlie tried to huff Elmer's glue for another episode. The GOT guys are true fans.

One very interesting/funny/creepy moment was when Mac and Dennis started to dance to the rat baiting music and Mac started to walk towards Dennis while looking somewhat lustfully into his eyes. Dennis deftly walked away before the moment got too ackward. Funny, funny subtle stuff there.
664710, Closing with the Police Acedemy music was a great touch

664872, smart charlie and earlier in the season successful dee
Posted by amplifya7, Fri Oct-25-13 06:28 PM
i wish lasted more than 15 minutes, i think they would've stayed hilarious for at least a few episodes if not a whole season...if Mac could be Fat Mac for a whole season, why not Smart Charlie or Successful Anti-Comedienne Dee?
664918, i havent LMBO like that since....the last ep of Sunny
Posted by araQual, Sat Oct-26-13 10:19 PM
my gawd.
Charlie fucking KILLED IT.
the presentation at the end when he coughs and sputters and says he's "WEAAARYEH!", was rewound no less than 5 times whilst me n wifey lost our shit lol.
everything about this ep was win.
and ive had the Police Academy theme stuck in my head since then.

665232, Lethal Weapon 6.

the brownface made me laugh harder than i've laughed at anything in yrs. especially when they blew up Murtaugh's daughter. i almost choked.

this show is gold, Jerry. GOLD!
665233, The fucking shower scene....

665236, Oh man, that whole episode had me dying
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Oct-31-13 02:59 PM
Probably nobody's pick for best episode of Sunny ever, but it may have had the most laughs.

-Everything with Cheif Lazarus (he's got an umbrella factory, so the rain dance won't affect him)
-The bug bites they're trying to ignore
-The never ending shower scene
-The editing of the film
-Mac explaining "You can succeed with the object you failed with at the beginning"
-The character switches

Mac looking down into Dennis' crotch in the strip club was a remarkable small touch that makes me smile just remembering it, but I had to pause the video I was watching when Dennis switched into Murtaugh's role because Mac's make-up was running in the shower.

Mac's Blackface and nose
Dennis's switch from Riggs to Murtaugh and in turn his whole role as Murtaugh
Shower Scene
Dee's southern accent while in Blackface
Mac's terrible acting and explaining everything with his dialogue

They did a really great job, I'd be happy just watching them do Lethal Weapon sequels this the series ends. Overall it's been a pretty damn good season.
665678, bummed this season's over, they should replay the whole season
