I was a CGI nerd at the time and the dinosaurs never seemed real to me outside of a few shots.

I read the book Jurassic Park and the book dealt more with the ethics of science and man's attempt to tame nature. The movie dumped that theme to appeal to kids, I suppose. I thought the movie was going to be more suspenseful. I was 14 when the movie came out and was at the age that I wanted something more sophisticated than the average movie geared for kids.

Some of the action notes were good - the paw imprints rumbling when the T-Rex walked, the chase scene when the T-Rex attacked and the mirror said 'Objects ate closer than they appear.'.

I liked the second one because it made the dinosaurs flesh and blood creatures and less pet-like. And had some great moments of action. The ending notwithstanding.
