They were women who felt trapped by a man's world and wanted to free themself. The ending of them choosing to kill themself rather than go to back to that life or jail works perfectly with that message. Spring Breakers is about the emasculation of males and the rise of a new female. If they were to die then it'd just be a nice idea that dies in practise.
