637648, SPILLED LATTE VOTES ARE LOCKED!
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jan-15-13 12:38 PM
I really need em in today. This goes up in a couple of days. I need to lock the results in.

IF YOU ARE A REGULAR VISITOR TO PTP, PLEASE PARTICIPATE. THE MORE VOTES WE GET, THE MORE OUR RESULTS WILL REFLECT THE OVERALL SENTIMENT OF THE FORUM. PLEASE VOTE!

Here's the deal. You think the Academy is bound to get it wrong. They always do. Well, now it's our turn.

I want you to post up your 5 favorites in ten major categories-- Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Original Score.

I would also like you to rank these from best to worst-- 5 points for your favorite, 1 point for your 5th favorite. If you don't have 5 you enjoyed in a category, rank the ones you did find praiseworthy (example: Best Supporting Actress isn't the deepest field, so if you have only three performances you dug, give out 5, 4, and 3 points to those three). Note: If you vote for fewer than three people for a particular category, your votes for that category will NOT be cast.

Example ballot:

BEST PICTURE
5 points- Snow White and the Huntsman
4 points- Savages
3 points- Tyler Perry's Good Deeds
2 points- That's My Boy
1 point- Compliance

BEST ACTOR
5 points- Tyler Perry in Tyler Perry's Good Deeds
4 points- Adam Sandler in That's My Boy
3 points- Chris Pine in This Means War
2 points- Taylor Kitsch, Battleship
1 point- Taylor Kitsch, Savages

Etc.

I realize many of us live in cities that get limited release films much later, but all of the major players have gone theatrical by now, so you have up until Valentine's Day to post your official selections. I will then add up the votes and post the "nominees" (the top five finishers in voting) shortly after. The official Spilled Latte Award Ceremony will be before the actual Oscars, so that we can brag when the Oscars arrive about how much better our list of winners is.

By the way, PLEASE ONLY MAKE ONE LIST! Multiple amendments make it very very difficult for the person keeping track-- me. So wait if you want to, or make your list now and inbox me your changes so that I can edit them into your post.

Also, I'm gonna be deleting extraneous posts that have nothing to do with rule clarification or declaration of list formation. So if the post count suddenly drops, you'll know why, lol. Just clearing out the clutter to make my job easier.

Finally, if you need help looking for additional, lesser-watched films to fill out your list with some special prestige, check out the For Your Consideration post, which will remain locked and anchored.

Let's see the lists, people. Choose em, rank em, throw em up.
637922, Fine, I'll get it started. MY BALLOT:

Ideally, there are 5 or so films I should see before I call this list final. However, Les Mis and The Sessions both seem more like homework at this point. And then I'm not sure how I would (legally) see On the Road, Smashed, or Middle of Nowhere any reasonable time soon. All apologies to those concerned. I'm fairly satisfied with this list anyhow.

Notes:
Was hoping to catch up in the past 2 weeks but stuff came up and was unable to watch: Lincoln, Django Unchained, Argo, Flight, Rust and Bone.

Deadline means I can't catch up with Anna Karenina on DVD.

Saw these films but they didn't place in any category: The Master, Moonrise Kingdome, Beasts of the Southern Wild.

If a 2011 film only had a limited release in '11 and I only got to see them in 2012, then I count them as eligible. Examples off the top: Tyrannosaur, The Kid With a Bike, House of Tolerance.
