626244, The Mindy Project
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Wed Sep-26-12 01:02 PM
anybody watch last night? thought it was pretty funny, and the Bill Hader & Ed Helms guest spots were fun. wasn't sure going in if Kaling could carry her own show but the storyline suits her brand of humor and goofy charm pretty well so I think it works. I'm on board.
626246, I liked it
Posted by Walleye, Wed Sep-26-12 01:16 PM
There was something weird going on with the sound, though. All the dialogue sounded like her voiceover. Maybe a pilot problem? I don't know how these things work, but it was pretty funny.
626288, was there?
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Wed Sep-26-12 05:47 PM
I didn't notice that with the sound, although I probably wasn't paying enough attention to those details to tell.
626517, I hardly ever notice stuff like that
Posted by Walleye, Sun Sep-30-12 07:58 AM
It's hard to describe, but it seemed like they had to re-dub a lot of the dialogue or something. It wasn't a big deal. The jokes still worked, but it was a little distracting to me.
626250, only made it for about 15 minutes, script was awful to me
Posted by rjc27, Wed Sep-26-12 01:41 PM
626251, it started out slow but I dug it
Posted by Ray_Snill, Wed Sep-26-12 01:54 PM
she's just funny to me anyway

626264, I watched...there was some solid lines, but it was all over the place
Posted by Lardlad95, Wed Sep-26-12 03:01 PM
It's a pilot so no real foul, but it felt like they were working too hard to introduce everyone. Hopefully the scripts will tighten up.

My only real gripe is that it pains me to see a woman that thick and brown only throwing it to white dudes. They can't handle that.

One other thing...Bill Hader's character saying he wanted someone with more years to give...Mindy is 31 in the pilot...since when is that old?

626269, I thought it did OK as an intro
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Wed Sep-26-12 03:28 PM
but yeah I'm sure the scripts will become more focused along specific storylines moving forward.

Apparently Michael Fassbender could - LOL. But I mean it's a network show so what to you expect. Although on The Office she dated Darryl for a bit and ended up choosing Ravi over Ryan, so keep hope alive!

yeah but when he denied saying it at first and then she corrected it and he was like "...yes, I did say that", shit had me dying.

626272, Actually one of her scenes with Daryl is my all-time favorite Office joke
Posted by Lardlad95, Wed Sep-26-12 03:57 PM
Where's she's like, "You need to choose right now. You daughter or me-"

and dude says, "Daughter" before she even finishes the sentence.

I will say this though, when she told homegirl's daughter that she was boring I almost spit out my drink, just because I've always wanted to say that to a little kid.

626283, ha yeah Daryl shutting Kelly down like that was hilarious

yeah that line killed me too. what else she say, "you're not contributing anything" or something like that? LOL
626273, Loved the 1st half

We out here trying to function.
626277, I liked it. I don't like how fast she speaks sometimes
Posted by Crucian1, Wed Sep-26-12 04:22 PM
because it doesn't allow for the full thought or sentiment to get out before the other person is already responding. Shaky timing?

I kinda like that her character is messy and confused.

626279, I thought it was as personal as a sitcom could get
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Sep-26-12 04:26 PM
Like that fat joke took it from regular sitcom cracks to like "damn" that's some real ish.

Dug it.

626282, How different is this character than Kelly on The Office?
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Sep-26-12 05:28 PM
Because I just found Kelly annoying and therefore am put of by Kaling in general.
626287, she's basically a smarter, sharper version of Kelly
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Wed Sep-26-12 05:43 PM
smarter than Kelly but still kinda ditzy and overdramatic although not an airhead, and with a sharper attitude. but if you just found Kelly annoying and are put off by Kaling in general then doubt that you'll enjoy this show.
626289, That's about what I figured.
Posted by Hitokiri, Wed Sep-26-12 05:56 PM
I figured though, that since she was a writer for The Office, a show that I genuinely enjoyed despite not liking her character, I should at least get some opinions on the show.
626315, I want to make babies with this woman
Posted by Tw3nty, Thu Sep-27-12 12:08 AM
626373, and then dump her for a snaggletooth Serbian chick
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Thu Sep-27-12 06:04 PM
626316, Not bad
Posted by Tek4mula, Thu Sep-27-12 12:48 AM
I laughed more than I usually do at sitcom pilots. I thought the main character was funny but not sure what to make of the two male leads. I'm in on Mindy Kaling though so I'll probably stay in on this show for a while.
626473, I liked it.
Posted by Anfernee, Sat Sep-29-12 06:37 AM
Mindy was great.

The dudes were pretty lame.

It's a strange world when Nard Dog and Bill Hader are seen as dreamy dudes though.

But whatever, I'm in.
626516, Dug it, I'll give it a few more episodes

626521, ^ditto, i never got into the confession booth interview

627284, this episode was awesome!!!

Posted by Scarface_7, Wed Oct-10-12 10:54 AM
i love she. and the comedic voice I associate with her...but I cant do this show no more... "its a fact that black men love Indian women" no, it aint...
627347, So it's just me?

"its a fact that black men love

627350, 1st ep was cute - I'ma give a few more based on that alone.

632273, I think this is the best new show this season
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Nov-27-12 03:47 PM
Folks are saying it hasn't found it's rhythm but I would say that she is avoiding the cliches of similar shows.

For instance, I love that her sports agent love interest isn't a total douchebag but is a right mix of douche bag and sweet to make him a real character. It's kind of cool that a few episodes in we still can't tell if he is a real long term love interest or just one of the d-bags that girls in the city date.

632278, It's SUPER uneven tho. I think it still needs some maturing.
Posted by spades, Tue Nov-27-12 04:18 PM
I'm still watching tho.
632306, Agreed on the agent, he's cool
Posted by ZooTown74, Tue Nov-27-12 07:25 PM
But like I said, there needs to be more for the other characters to do, rather than go on madcap adventures to Mindy's house to find an expensive watch or visit the cornpone girl's cornpone parents...

Bitch, don't kill my vibe.
632318, it's not even the best new show tues night
Posted by Calico, Tue Nov-27-12 09:22 PM
...Ben & Kate is....and I actually found I really like the show more than I thought i would
632423, June Diane Raphael is SO fine
Posted by Calico, Wed Nov-28-12 12:57 PM
....she was bought to hurt my feelings with her facial expressions as Schmidt was talking about his "game plan"
632444, She and her lesbian wife were all about the right
Posted by Dae021, Wed Nov-28-12 02:44 PM
I was pleased
636814, Tyler cameos aren't a good sign...
Posted by mrshow, Wed Jan-09-13 02:31 AM
They still don't seem to be any closer to figuring out the tone here.
636924, they're about to write themselves into a real corner...
Posted by PG, Wed Jan-09-13 05:32 PM
ifn she pregnant like I was guessing with all that puking.
636926, I doubt she's knocked up
Posted by mrshow, Wed Jan-09-13 05:42 PM
Still too much material to be had from her being single.
636928, single folks get knocked up too.
Posted by PG, Wed Jan-09-13 06:01 PM
but like I said it'd put them in a corner... I'm kind of curious cause last night every second advertisement during the breaks was for catholicscomehome.org
637157, I had to turn this off. It was that bad. I'm out.
