597858, The RIVER Post
Posted by Ceej, Wed Feb-01-12 04:07 PM
2 hour premiere tonight I am not looking forward to but I am intrigued by the show.

Anyone lookin for this tonight?
597877, Yes. And I'm excited at the possibilities.
Posted by lc ceo, Wed Feb-01-12 07:15 PM
Not the *probabilities*, mind you, but the *possibilities* The show looks intriguing enough that there is a dash of hope that this may be the first Lost influenced show to actually have legs. I know a lot of people pointed to Fringe as that cure for the Lost hunger pains, but that's more in line with the X-Files than anything else.

That said, I don't expect much. It doesn't necessarily appear to be next-level type promising, but it certainly appears to be worth checking out.
597883, Actually this starts next Tuesday. My bad

597938, I'll admit, the new trailer has me intrigued

598485, Damn I didn't know that was tonight
Posted by Dae021, Tue Feb-07-12 02:52 PM
I'll check it though.
598540, So this is EXACTLY like Paranormal Activity
Posted by nipsey, Tue Feb-07-12 10:14 PM
Except it's in the jungle.
598556, Yea i'm not sure I can watch this every week though
Posted by Dae021, Tue Feb-07-12 11:12 PM
598587, I watched the first 30 minutes, it almost moved TOO fast...
Posted by Mole, Wed Feb-08-12 03:28 AM
... It didn't allow any time for properly setting a mood. I think it's hard for a network TV show with paranormal themes to truly be eerie or scary due to all the commercial breaks anyway, but the space between establishing the characters and the first appearance of the spirit/demon was too short for it to have much impact.

Plus, the found footage gimmick doesn't work when it everything looks and sounds like a typical network TV show, complete with a score.
598591, The commercial breaks do relieve the tension.

In a sad sort of way. This show will play *much* better on DVD.

While the characters aren't very fleshed out yet, I love the mood and the visuals. I think they're using the found footage gimmick in smart ways even if they're cheating with it (the camera always manages to slightly zoom in on what is creepy), and the sound design is awesome for a TV show-- very LOST-ish.

It's sort of unapologetically what it is, but I'll likely tune in another week or so. If the characters don't start becoming people I really care about, it'll be hard to devote an hour every week to it.
598596, The Tent scene was straight out of the movie
Posted by Dae021, Wed Feb-08-12 09:36 AM
You're right it is unapologetically what it is. That's really good way to put it.

I don't hate it, but I'm not sure I can invest an hour every week to this.

I did like what happened after they opened the door though, i thought that was a really quick payoff to keep you invested. I liked that.
598634, Soft start

ABC’s new horror/mystery drama The River launched to so-so numbers last night. The first hour of its 2-hour premiere posted a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.2 million at 9 PM. The second hour dipped to a 2.2 rating and 6.8 million viewers, with the show slipping a tenth of a rating point every half-hour. The 2.2 rating matched the debut in ABC’s midseason drama Off The Map in the Wednesday 10 PM slot last year. At 8 PM, back-to-back original episodes of Last Man Standing (2.3/6, 7.75 million; 2.5/6, 7.96 million) were down 12% and 4% in the demo, respectively, from the comedy’s last original 3 weeks ago.

598662, I will say this...
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Feb-08-12 01:55 PM
... a lot of the kids at my high school stayed up and watched at least the first ep and loved it. So maybe it'll grow in the youngest demographic. I've never heard kids talk about a non-Glee show so much.

Mistah Cole - he dead.

those people seemed remarkably unfazed by a bloodthirsty undead shadow creature flying around at 200 mph trying to kill them.

598652, this is a joke, right?..

..from the cast to the set to the writing

HORRIBLE

shit's garbage

there is so much wrong with this, that the "found footage" trend is the BEST thing about the show, and that ain't a good thing.

the story is horrible. someone basically said, "..let's take steve irwin's life and flip it into a horror series..." except, they let some 1st graders write the script and let some high school glee club put on the performance.

i was done after the 1st 10 minutes, but suffered through it just so i could give it a fair review.

this show is dead to me. i'm tryin' to figure out how to fool myself into believing this never happened.

..and miles to go before i sleep...

see you and I are on the same wavelength with this show. But, i spent the ENTIRE 2 hours laughing my ass off at how horrible it was...I mean THE ENTIRE EPISODE.

i'll give it a chance next week but i know i'm going to tune out because i am not seeing this show improving at all...
599305, Tonight. I think I'll give it another try.

599373, Can someone explain to me why
Posted by nipsey, Tue Feb-14-12 10:27 PM
the girl speaks Spanish in her responses to all the characters' questions in English? I mean a character asks her a question in English and she answers in Spanish. If you can understand English fool why don't you speak it?
599427, this right here kills me. this show is so terrible. i just can't.
Posted by lovelyone80, Wed Feb-15-12 10:06 AM
