http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2011/03_march/29/fades.shtml

Filming begins on The Fades, a new supernatural horror made by BBC Drama Production for BBC Three by 2011 RTS Award-winning writer, Jack Thorne (This Is England '86, Skins, The Scouting Book For Boys, Cast Offs).

Iain De Caestecker (River City, Coronation Street) is Paul, a young man who is haunted by apocalyptic dreams that neither his therapist or best friend, Mac, can provide answers for. Worse still, Paul is starting to see the Fades – the spirits of the dead – all around him.

They're everywhere but they can't be seen, smelt, heard or touched by living beings. But now an embittered and vengeful Fade has found a way to break the barrier between the dead and the living and Paul, Mac and their friends and family are all right in the eye of the storm.

But the most terrifying twist is yet to come – the fate of humanity rests in the hands of the two friends who already have enough trouble getting through a day in one piece, let alone saving the world.

Jack Thorne says: "The Fades was born from a trip into executive producer, Sue Hogg's office – she asked me what drama of the last ten years I wished I'd written – I said the American cable show Freaks & Geeks – I was wearing a Ghostbusters t-shirt, she said 'what about Freaks & Geeks meets Ghostbusters'. And I smiled and nodded enthusiastically. But the further we've gone along, and it's been five years since that meeting, the more seriously we've taken the fantasy and the mythology and so the comedy is subtler and a newer, fresher, hopefully more exciting show has emerged. I feel so lucky to be part of the team that's bringing it to the screen – everyone from our location manager to our FX supervisor are so committed and we have such an amazing cast – I'm quite literally in dreamland right now."

Key cast also include: Daniel Kaluuya (Skins, Psychoville, Sucker Punch) playing Mac. Tom Ellis (Miranda, Harley Street, Merlin) is Mark, a teacher under suspicion when his ex-wife Sarah is missing, feared dead. Johnny Harris (This is England '86, Spartacus) is Neil, a lone warrior against the forces of darkness, who becomes Paul's unlikely mentor. Daniela Nardini (This Life, A Street Car Named Desire) is Helen; like Paul she also has an extraordinary ability which will prove useful in the fight to save mankind. Lily Loveless (Skins) is Anna, Paul's twin sister, fierce and uncompromising, she finds being related to someone like Paul rather annoying; Claire Rushbrook (Ashes To Ashes) is Meg, Paul and Anna's mum; Theo Barklem-Biggs (Age Of Heroes, Miranda, EastEnders) is PC Phillip Firth; Jenn Murray (Day Of The Triffids) is Natalie and Sophie Wu (Kick-Ass, The Other Man) plays Jay.

Kate Harwood, BBC Controller Drama Series & Serials, adds: "The minute I read Jack Thorne's script I realised we were in exciting new territory. This is a vision of great imagination and I am thrilled that we have such a talented cast and that we have director Farren Blackburn and a brilliant team who can bring this vision to life... or half life!"

Currently in production for transmission later this year, The Fades (previously titled Touch) is a co-production with BBC America. The 6x60 minute series from BBC Drama Production was commissioned by Danny Cohen in his previous role as Controller, BBC Three and Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning. The director is Farren Blackburn (Episodes 1-3) and Tom Shankland (Episodes 4-6); the producer is Caroline Skinner and executive producer is Susan Hogg.

I caught this on BBC America and its dope. Kind of a mixture of the Walking Dead, The Sixth Sense and every awkward teen movie lol. And I really like Mac's character, he's pretty funny.
597413, mac is awkward yet funny

an appropriate name that sounds just like it. Shades. A Shade is a name for a ghost like that.
597622, Just saw the first episode and man i like this alot
Posted by Dae021, Tue Jan-31-12 10:39 AM
Daniel Kaluuya basically steals every scene he's in, and shout to his Heather Langenkamp reference. That's some real good shit. I'm interested to see where this goes.

Seeing Lilly Loveles as a bich of a sister is such a stark difference from Naomi on Skins I like it.

The Fades are WILD as shit, the way Natalie set ole boy up.

I wonder will their wonder twins activate?
598351, Episode 4 really kicked it up
Posted by Dae021, Mon Feb-06-12 10:59 AM
I'm lovin that Joe Dempsie got to really show his acting in this one. He and Daniel Kaluuya really held that whole episode down.

Yo this show is a mini skins revival.

I love that they're making an angelic like the other fades now, that's really interesting plot device.
599278, Who's still up on it, Episode 5 was crazy
Posted by Dae021, Tue Feb-14-12 10:30 AM
daniel Kaluuya did his thing, and Lily Loveless got some shine this episode. They just keep turning crazy up and i'm loving it.

I fool with this.
599290, hi @ Jay.

599341, Dude is getting his Iron Man on
Posted by ACIDSE7EN, Tue Feb-14-12 05:20 PM
I don't know why he didn't just go into the boilerroom and kill all the fades who hadn't changed yet? The next episode looks dope!
599369, he was blinded by love yo. i thought the same thing.
Posted by vik, Tue Feb-14-12 09:51 PM
599893, Got DAMN!!! I won't spoil it but DAMN
Posted by Dae021, Mon Feb-20-12 12:50 PM
Young are you kidding me!! That's how you end this season???

I was really impressed with the way it played out.

Natalie Dormer came to play in this last episode.

Kaluuya was entertaining up until the last frame.

The kid that played Paul did really well.

Joe Dempsie looked to enjoy his role as John. I'm sad to see that character go.
599901, RE: Got DAMN!!! I won't spoil it but DAMN
Posted by ACIDSE7EN, Mon Feb-20-12 02:11 PM
I agree, it ended really well. I really hope if there is a season two Paul grows some balls he could have ended John instead of playing the nice guy. I hope they can find a way to bring back Jay for season two, good eye candy.
600649, What a great okey-doke this series was.
Posted by BigReg, Mon Feb-27-12 10:31 AM
Initially the only thing that made me watch was the relationship between Paul, Max, and Jay...I found the fades subtext pretty horror-lite and boring. Plus that whole, 'With great power comes great responsibility' clichι it looks like they were building up to was a turnoff.

Damn that changed halfway through, and the mythology they built into the world suddenly got MUCH more complex and less black and white. It was a dark ass show and that ending (horrible cgi aside) was pretty complete AND ominous enough that you want to know more.

Reading the OP it looks like a different director handled each half of the season and it showed. Just great stuff and im all in; I hope we get more seasons.
600651, i'm SO damn glad they dropped the horror schtick

600653, Yup. Especially since it wasn't scary
Posted by BigReg, Mon Feb-27-12 10:40 AM
when those two underaged bullies died early on I have to admit I kind of laughed at the whole scene, lol.

What the Fades evolved into was much scarier and they didn't have to rely on cheap quick edits.

600652, Also, what was the use of the pretty boy teacher dude? (spoilers)
Posted by BigReg, Mon Feb-27-12 10:37 AM
I kept on waiting for them to tag him in plot wise...seems all he was there to do is wear S-medium shirts, look pretty, and brood. I actually liked him as a character in the first half of the series but it was weird how they just let his storyline fizzle out. You could say he was around to kind of give his ex-wife some 'meat' as far as character development was concerned, but you figure being on the good guys side and then forced to live the shitty existence that made the badguys what they are would be motivation enough for the changes she went through.

Speaking of his ex-wife, thank her undead heart for upping the titty quotient in a major way those last two episodes.
600661, Yea he was the lead-in for the ex
Posted by Dae021, Mon Feb-27-12 11:18 AM
I thought they were going to do more with him, but when she changed and came back I sort of just realized he was there to show that you can come back but you can't full be normal again. you can't be your old self, just because in order to be a fade reborn you've got to consume to stay alive.

Oh and Natalie Dormer was great to look at, I hope she doesn't die. I need her in next season.
600667, After dude got all riled up after getting accused
Posted by BigReg, Mon Feb-27-12 11:39 AM
I was hoping he was gonna go all Van Helsing via Banana Republic. Particularly during the showdown in the 'volunteer center', even though he wasn't there I would have sworn he was gonna step up to the plate (since it was a point where all the characters were exposed to the Fade threat)

Dude was like, I got a pretty woman driving me, a cute car, we look like we are in a car commercial....vroom vroom y'all, catch y'all in Los Angeles!

600707, Young the way he dipped out I was like you're bitchmade for that
Posted by Dae021, Mon Feb-27-12 02:21 PM
but I get it.

I think his storyline was going to be more closely tied to Mac's Dad. You know run that police story more, but that shit disappeared at the sametime.

Like I tought they were really building towards something between Mac and his Dad. You know especially after he smacked him out, but it just turned into more chances to see Paul be the Magical negro and shit.
