563971, South Park Season 15 Part One
Posted by Marauder21, Wed Apr-27-11 03:23 PM
After a mostly disappointing (depending how much you cared about the Coon/Mysterion stuff I guess) end to last season, we've got (maybe the last?) season of SP. Who knows what's going to happen, but tonight they take on Apple. I'm watching. Anyone else?
563972, Wait, this may be the last season? Since when?

569097, basically

they were fucking on point with that shit (did anyone catch the Tyler Poster in Randy's room for a split second?)

I'm not sure yet, going to rewatch it so far, but this might be the best season in like the last 5-10. The storytelling/writing has been so crazy good, and the end of this last episode actually had such a good tone and feeling to it, from a cartoon to make me feel that way, crazy.

My thoughts on the implications are that they really are critical of themselves and want to not just be a show getting views, but be able to progress even in their later years. Maybe that'll show in the 2nd half of the season, like a legit season story arc which they haven't done in a while (sticking more to 2-3 part episodes).
569108, You think they were going at Odd Future, or were they going at
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Jun-09-11 01:02 PM
the critics who slob all over them?
569110, Yes.

569062, Another great episode

So far this has been one of the best seasons in a while
569066, Man, that turned into a depressing episode
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jun-09-11 12:45 AM
So, is this Matt and Trey saying they're sick of the show and each other? They really gonna end it all this season? Shoot, if they are going to end it, they might as well just pack it in right here. Not sure if there's much of a point to having a "kiss and make up" episode.

It was still pretty damn funny for the first 25 minutes, especially the old folks and the movie previews.
569075, Yeah, I wonder if this was actually the series finale
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Jun-09-11 08:15 AM
Because otherwise it's just too meta.

And agreed on the movie trailers, those killed.
569081, Nevermind, AV Club says they are under contract until 2013
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Jun-09-11 09:03 AM
569099, Ah. Seems to be about them being sick of the show though...
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Jun-09-11 10:36 AM
I know they're making a shitload of money on Broadway now that "Book of Mormon" is a hit, and it seems like they're ready to move on. I also read that Trey is getting divroced, which probably explains Randy and Sharon breaking up, as the Marshs are pretty much the stand-ins for the Parkers.
569100, Yeah, this is a good article on them from a couple months ago

Whole thing is worth a read, but here's a key point in regards to the stress of doing SP:

He won’t have long to do so. A week after they leave New York around March 28, the pair hurtles into the 15th season of South Park, part of a new pact with Comedy Central that keeps the show on the air through 2013 and is said to be even richer than their previous $75 million deal. They’ll have just one week to create each episode, with no time to prep.

“Every show, we’re down to the wire,” says Parker, running his hand through his hair in exasperation. “I don’t know how we’re going to do it. It’s a nightmare.”
569149, Wow. Have they ever had that serious an episode?
Posted by PierreOrdinaire, Thu Jun-09-11 08:21 PM
Well, the ending at least. Hard to call an episode serious when ducks are spewing shit from their mouths and Randy, er, Steamy Ray Vaughn, farts into a microphone all episode.

But I can't recall such a somber ending or theme to any other SP episode. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out. It certainly seemed like Matt and Trey were throwing in the towel.
569242, SAD ASS EPISODE

i like how they let the fleetwood mac song ride without throwing a shit sound (not counting the duck)
