534241, Are there any major stars with a worse filmography than George Clooney?
Posted by icecold21, Wed Sep-08-10 03:17 PM
All of his movies seem to suck. I think the most enteraining movie I've seen of his was Dusk til Dawn. Why are so many on his nutsack when he consistently puts out shit? I seriously can't think of another star on his level that has put out as many boring movies as him.

Now, if the OP wanted to say the filmography with the most box office flops out of all "movie stars," then I'd be inclined to agree. But in terms of quality? Son.

>12/4/09 Up in the Air <-- GREAT film
>11/13/09 Fantastic Mr. Fox <-- enjoyable
>11/6/09 The Men Who Stare at Goats <-- never saw
>9/12/08 Burn After Reading <-- VERY enjoyable
>4/4/08 Leatherheads <-- disposable but inoffensive
>10/5/07 Michael Clayton <-- GREAT film
>6/8/07 Ocean's Thirteen <-- fun sequel
>12/15/06 The Good German <-- never saw
>11/23/05 Syriana <-- Oscar
>10/7/05 Good Night, and Good Luck. <-- GREAT film. And he directed.
>12/10/04 Ocean's Twelve <-- not my favorite
>10/10/03 Intolerable Cruelty <-- underrated Coens flick
>12/31/02 Confessions of a Dangerous Mind <-- GREAT film. And he directed.
>11/27/02 Solaris <-- never saw, but I heard it's really bad
>10/4/02 Welcome to Collinwood <-- never saw, but I heard it's fun if disposable
>12/7/01 Ocean's Eleven <-- good film
>12/22/00 O Brother, Where Art Thou? <-- good film
>6/30/00 The Perfect Storm <-- halfway okay summer blockbuster
>10/1/99 Three Kings <-- good film
>12/25/98 The Thin Red Line <-- he doesn't do too much in this, if I recall
>6/26/98 Out of Sight <-- GREAT film.
>9/26/97 The Peacemaker <-- shit
>6/20/97 Batman and Robin <-- shit, but not really his fault
>12/20/96 One Fine Day <-- chicks dig this
>1/19/96 From Dusk Till Dawn <-- lots of fun
>6/1/90 Red Surf <-- ?
>1988 Return of the Killer Tomatoes <-- THEY ATE ME! A TOMATO ATE ME!

Right. I got the list from boxofficemojo.com. Now if we're talking $$$, his track record isn't that great. But the quality is there.

even if we're talking box-office flops, he wouldnt be anywhere near the top of the list
534469, Solaris is not bad at all

>>11/27/02 Solaris <-- never saw, but I heard it's really bad

and clooney does a fine job in it.

now Men Who Stare at Goats though, that was pretty bad.

>>1988 Return of the Killer Tomatoes <-- THEY ATE ME! A TOMATO

LOL
534583, I saw the first 15 of Men Who Stare at Goats.

My DVD skipped and I didn't watch the rest. Never felt the need too. Not a good sign.

As for Solaris, I think the folks I know who hated it loved the original. So maybe it comes from a place of "how dare they remake that."
534642, Never saw the original Solaris but Cloon's version was a snoozefest

534256, My take:
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Sep-08-10 03:59 PM

>The American - Haven't seen it. Plan to this weekend.
>Up in the Air - Damn good film
>Fantastic Mr. Fox - Favorite film that came out that year.
>The Men Who Stare at Goats - Perfectly enjoyable lil' film, even if a bit slight
>Burn After Reading - Very good film
>Leatherheads - Kinda mediocre
>Michael Clayton - Great film
>Ocean's Thirteen - Fun sequel.
>The Good German - Never seen it.
>Syriana - Great film
>Good Night, and Good Luck - Great film
>Ocean's Twelve - Fun sequel, but Ocean's 13 better
>Intolerable Cruelty - Okay. Isn't as bad as some say. Not really his fault though.
>Confessions of a Dangerous Mind - Great film
>Solaris - Never seen it.
>Welcome to Collinwood - Never seen it.
>Ocean's Eleven - Great film
>O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Great film
>The Perfect Storm - Perfectly fine summer blockbuster
>Three Kings - GREAT film.
>The Thin Red Line - He's barely in this. Like, he's literally has one scene, and there's a voice-over going on over most of it.
>Out of Sight - Great film
>The Peacemaker - Never seen it.
>Batman and Robin - Sucked, but not his fault. Schumacher turned it into gay superhero porn.
>One Fine Day - Never seen it. Don't want to
>From Dusk Till Dawn - Decently fun film
>Red Surf - C'mon, this film isn't real.
>Return of the Killer Tomatoes - What Frank said.
>Return to Horror High - See "Red Surf"

So, in other words, FOH original poster.

of the '90s.
534258, I honestly put it in the top 10 films of the last 25 years
Posted by mrhood75, Wed Sep-08-10 04:01 PM
Yep. Said it, meant it.
534263, off the top, i can't recall another movie
Posted by Whiteout, Wed Sep-08-10 04:10 PM
that took such large steps to humanize the 'enemy.'

Especially in a war movie. It's so easy to go the propaganda route, or to play up the unquestionability of the chain of command.

Three Kings had no clear antagonist that I remember, and yet every single character was humble and real.

And it was timely enough that it could have villainized the Iraqis and the guard and gotten away with it. It didn't; it was still completely entertaining.
534301, Damn, I forgot about that one.

Cuz there are literally 100 actors that are less talented and make worse movies. He's had a great career and I still enjoy the majority of his roles. But seems like an overreaction to a recent snoozer.
534370, seems like someone can only flashback to Batman Forever...

thats actually a fair question...dude's had one of the best careers out there
534407, I'll say Matt Damon and Denzel
Posted by mrhood75, Thu Sep-09-10 01:47 PM
I almost listed Don Cheadle, but looking at his filmography, while he's got a good number of under-appreciated gems, he's also got a lot of clunkers that I forgot about. None of them suck BECAUSE of Cheadle, but the movies do suck.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman, aka the man who will be Art Howe, could count, though he's got some clunkers early in his career. He had tiny parts in all of those, though.

And Brad Pitt, aka the man who will be Billy Beane, gets a lot of shit, but his filmography is also someone surprisingly good.
534493, Johnny Depp
