For some odd reason, I thought maybe it would be good... until he put on the CGI cape, which will be the single moment in which anything good about this show goes right out the window, lol.
521968, well Heroes *was* a hit till they started messing w/ time travel, right?
Posted by celery77, Wed Jun-09-10 06:29 PM
I dunno, I never watched it.

the CGI cape was pretty bad, and it looks like some kind of weird filtering of Batman and Punisher or something like that.

personally, I like my superheroes to discover their innate craziness closer to childhood, but I mean, "generic revenge story" isn't all bad.
522009, This looks wank and I will NEVER watch it.
Posted by Pete Burns, Thu Jun-10-10 12:01 AM

What the blood claaat ???
522011, Well at least Summer Glau is getting work.

522087, If he knows how to use his "powers" and kicks ass, I'll give it a shot.
Posted by DawgEatah, Thu Jun-10-10 03:05 PM
Heroes never seemed to be able to grasp that.

522095, lol i'm just saying. if it's comic material reduced to a soap opera...
Posted by DawgEatah, Thu Jun-10-10 03:41 PM
... like Heroes, than I won't watch it. But if this actually turns out to be a decent action series where things happen and characters develop somewhat rationally, then I will give it AT LEAST as much of a chance as I did Heroes.

522093, instead of making up all these bullshit superheroes why dont they
Posted by Deluge, Thu Jun-10-10 03:38 PM
just use whats there already
ive been saying for years that a decent budget batman tv series done right would kick ass

but hell it doesnt even have to be batman
pick any marvel or dc superhero
that way they dont have to continuously rape shit in movie form

even a fantastic four tv show would be potentially great
522099, Cuz then they don't have to pay for licensing.
Posted by DawgEatah, Thu Jun-10-10 04:02 PM
I wish they'd do a Batman series Smallville style, but without the corniness and terrible writing. lol But you know. Life before the cowl. The training leading up to it. etc.

522104, Didn't they try to do that with Human Target?
Posted by Nopayne, Thu Jun-10-10 04:17 PM
I think that came from a comic book. Shit sucked.
522140, i think it costs too much to get the rights to the characters tho
Posted by Calico, Thu Jun-10-10 10:12 PM
i remember Smallville producers wanting to get young Bruce in for a cameo and it was tough for them to get the rights to even use the character...that's how they ended up wit Green Arrow...
522096, Are they picking up shows from the Sci-fi channel now?

if i had to choose between this and no ordinary family on abc i'd probably go with no ordinary family due to them having chiklas on it. i'll have to see how prominent of a role keith david has.

548878, Sepinwall (or was it Fienberg?) said the problem with this show
Posted by AFKAP_of_Darkness, Sun Jan-09-11 08:43 PM
is that it's probably too earnest and not "postmodern" enough for the contemporary sensibility and attitudes towards superheroes...

From the little of it I've seen, I would agree.
548952, I thought they said they kinda liked that about it?
Posted by OldPro, Mon Jan-10-11 11:29 AM
but it failed in other ways

We said that most modern super-heroes took the deconstructionist and post-modern approach to the super-hero genre, this one goes the straight-faced, earnest route, and it suffers.

I'm not sure we was implying that post-modern should always be the way to go though.

Oh, and it's still a trip to see people quoting their podcast.

Posted by lexx3001, Mon Jan-10-11 08:23 AM
yeah, its that bad. Ill give it one more shot, but that pilot was VERY spotty. I hope that this pile doesn't discourage them from making a good superhero show. Heroes was promising.
549060, Mantis is better than this.
Posted by jetblack, Mon Jan-10-11 09:16 PM
it's HARD to make a believable superhero in TV.

The cape swinging was corn ball.
548934, Summer Glau
Posted by Travis Holden, Mon Jan-10-11 09:27 AM
I will check this just for her; I think she rocked a short skirt in just about every scene she was in.

Otherwise, it was spotty and all over the place, most of it was incredibly corny and cliched, but it had its moments. I will give it at least a few eps. I enjoyed the cast, as well. A few familiar faces.
548978, she is so type casted. she's a low grade Eliza Dushku.
Posted by cheap skeiht killa, Mon Jan-10-11 12:41 PM
548945, it's really not that bad
Posted by Calico, Mon Jan-10-11 10:30 AM
....yeah, it could be a lot better, but most of these 'hero' shows aren't done way they should.....I'll give it more time to develop....honestly, I liked the 2nd ep without the cape more....
548973, I think the secret of superhero films & TV
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Jan-10-11 12:30 PM
Is that you have to have a director/show runner who is a comic book fiend. The biggest disasters in comic book movies/shows have been when the directors or show creators weren't die hard comic book people.

Posted by buckshot defunct, Tue Jan-11-11 07:27 PM
Look, montages are great for say, showing a boxer become an even better boxer. Or a rag tag group of misfits prepare for a softball tournament. Or perhaps even a couple, falling in love. Like, they're okay if you're getting good at ONE thing. ONE.

This fool became an expert in hypnosis, acrobatics, mixed martial arts, magic tricks and fabric trickery, all in under 3 minutes. Now come on.

they do that because to HONESTLY flesh out the growth would really take about 3 to 4 (maybe even 5 if you deal with the wife/son issues of seeing daddy/hubby blown up on FUCKING TV!) eps to DEAL with but NBC does NOT have that patience.

they would have cancelled that shit.

seriously, with all the grit and "reality" based programming, who wants niggas flying around with capes and gadgets and shits (besides us fanboys and fangirls alike).

first of all, monday is a RIDICULOUSLY rough timeslot for new shows to go into. Chuck needed subway and a legion of people to keep it going.

they need to let dude take out fleming and get back with his family, reinstated on the force, and STILL be the cape. to fill in the gaps for where his police work can't.

but a perpetual story where dude is constantly in the dark and his family forever longing.....gets exhausting.

the fact that it generated all this fucking chatter though is interesting LOL
