For the most part, I agree with their choices. A bit surprised by some of the picks.

509051, Mencia and Leno both on that list...someone is going to be mad
Posted by Innocent Criminal, Tue Mar-16-10 12:41 PM
509052, They should have kept going
Posted by Wrongthink, Tue Mar-16-10 12:42 PM
There's far too many unfunny comics in this world that need to get called out. Oswalt, Garafalo and Posehn spring to mind.
509053, yeah, there's definitely a few I can think of...Eddie Griffin anyone
Posted by vee-lover, Tue Mar-16-10 12:46 PM
and for some reason, I just don't find Kathy Griffin funny...at least not drop dead funny.

509085, Eddie Griffin was funny in Undercover Brother

509055, cmon...

>There's far too many unfunny comics in this world that need

509064, lol PTP has a massive boner for patton oswalt
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Mar-16-10 01:19 PM
the guy isn't even remotely close to being close funny in any way shape or form, yet PTP worships the guy. don't be surprised if you get 5 responses of vile in return!
509093, he's funny, but he aint bill hicks or anything
Posted by drugs, Tue Mar-16-10 02:52 PM
509104, i'm really just going to agree to disagree.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Mar-16-10 03:23 PM
to me he's a successful hack no different from larry the cable guy, mencia and dunham

the only difference i see is that he is on the other side of the mass market, lowest common denominator tracks from those guys. actually, he isn't even as funny as them. he's just awful and very unfunny. i can at least get why people like the bullshit those other dudes are spittin, but i am completely baffled as to how oswalt has any fans.
509111, I remember that from the Big Fan thread
Posted by Wrongthink, Tue Mar-16-10 03:35 PM
(in which he was great btw). I was reading it like, really? Professional comedians should be able to make you laugh uncontrollably even if you're by yourself. Patton Oswalt just tells marginally humourous stories with well picked words, but he's not really funny.

He's a good example of how the space between professional comedian and funny guy at the party has shrunk considerably. He's like Dane Cook for the nerds.
509117, More shitty comedians:
Posted by Wrongthink, Tue Mar-16-10 03:44 PM
You gonna mention Jay without mentioning Maher? C'mon.

Also Joe Rogan, Russell Brand, basically anyone who's tried to hustle their modicum of fame into a stand-up tour.
509056, has anyone here actually seen byron allen do stand-up?
Posted by thoughtprocess, Tue Mar-16-10 12:53 PM
i haven't, i can't imagine what it would even be like.
509057, Martin Lawrence is NOT a funny stand-up comedian
Posted by Big Chief Rumbletummy, Tue Mar-16-10 12:57 PM

He's a helluva comedic actor, even though he stars in absolute shit nowadays, and can even get dramatical at times, but "cryingbecause she makes a helluva ham sandwich" is funny in neither concept nor delivery.

Where's Dat Phan? Gallagher? Gallagher 2?

Does anyone actually find Don Rickles funny?

Seeing as how they chose the worst/stupidest pics of everyone, I'm surprised they didn't go for Carrot Top. I give CT a pass though because he can at least laugh at himself.
509063, Don't know abt now but at his height, Martin's stand up was must see tv
Posted by vee-lover, Tue Mar-16-10 01:16 PM
Have you ever heard Chris Rock say how he hated opening for Martin back in the early 90s? This was at a point when Chris Rock seemed to have lost his mojo

I saw "You so crazy" back in the day and that ish was funny ALL the way through. Me and my girl laughed our azz off the whole time.

509082, You so Crazy
Posted by jigga, Tue Mar-16-10 02:11 PM
>Does anyone actually find Don Rickles funny?

He's an ass but I've laughed at him clowning people several times.

509067, Agree with most, not all.
Posted by bski, Tue Mar-16-10 01:29 PM
LOL @ them going in on Byron Allen. That dude is IMO the biggest hack of all time.

How they gonna hate on Greg Giraldo btw? He's one of my favorite comics working today.

And I can understand the Dane Cook hate but I do think he's legitimately funny. He peaked a few years ago though and christ does he have annoying fans.

509073, In the Lampinelli critique.

509077, Sinbad? FOH
Posted by placee_22, Tue Mar-16-10 01:51 PM
Sinbad's corny as fuck, but he's still funny.
509081, they didn't trash sinbad.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Mar-16-10 02:09 PM
509083, yeah, I went back and READ it. I just saw his pic and assumed
Posted by placee_22, Tue Mar-16-10 02:13 PM
509088, i reacted the same you did when i saw his pictures... like WTF YO!!
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Mar-16-10 02:33 PM
i like sinbad. there's no pretence, no super edgy angle, no gimmick, he's just that funny ass uncle you can't wait to see at the next family cookout. at any rate, his standup special was solid for the 15 minutes or so i watched before falling asleep. not that i fell asleep to his comedy, i was just ready for bed.
509084, I thought it was funny that I clicked the link for his funny clip & got
Posted by jigga, Tue Mar-16-10 02:14 PM
Page Cannot Be Found

No bull
509086, That was more like an awkwardly placed ad
Posted by buckshot defunct, Tue Mar-16-10 02:17 PM
They're seemingly promoting his comeback special under the heading 'Unfunny Business'... Took me a minute to wrap my head around that one but I don't think they're including him in the critique
509091, Caliendo never sounds like his subjects? Never? Really?
Posted by jigga, Tue Mar-16-10 02:41 PM
509097, Yeah I don't get that at all
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Mar-16-10 03:10 PM
Dude's not exactly changing the face of comedy, but he does very good impressions. There's a place for that in comedy.
509106, Right. He might not look like his subjects & maybe the show sucked.
Posted by jigga, Tue Mar-16-10 03:26 PM
Don't know since I never watched it. But most of his impressions that I've heard are spot on & yes there is indeed a place for that in comedy. Him & Aries Spears are the best I've heard recently.
509110, Cosign on Aries Spears
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Mar-16-10 03:35 PM
I still LMAO at that G Unit radio appearance from like 5 years ago where he did his rapper impressions.

"Pop the tops"

Like Cold Truth said, it's limited, but effective at making people laugh.
509114, Not if it isn't funny
Posted by buckshot defunct, Tue Mar-16-10 03:40 PM
> There's a place for that in comedy.

But full disclosure: I used to work with a guy who would basically play the same 3 Frank Caliendo Youtube clips all day every day, so under those circumstances you're bound to hate anybody.
509116, I can't imagine anyone being that entertained by anyone doing anything
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Mar-16-10 03:42 PM
509118, He was a strange cat.
Posted by buckshot defunct, Tue Mar-16-10 04:00 PM
He was always either listening to that or Creationism "Scientific" lectures. Now those were hilarious.
509107, that was probably the dumbest inclusion of the article.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Mar-16-10 03:26 PM
he's a pretty good impressionist. it makes his actual comic abilities limited overall, but it's an entertaining one trick when you can do a variety of people reasonably well.
509109, I've actually seen his stand up
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Mar-16-10 03:31 PM
It's exactly what you expect it to be, no more no less. I laughed.
510167, Kathy Griffin anyone?
Posted by vee-lover, Tue Mar-23-10 12:09 PM
510694, Lets add Dennis Miller to this list...
Posted by vee-lover, Thu Mar-25-10 05:12 PM
This guy has never been funny to me with his so-called cerebral and high brow brand of comedy.

That was one of the worst ideas in the history of television to ever think he was a good fit for doing commentary for Monday Night Football.
