502478, Go back and watch them
Posted by Dae021, Tue Feb-09-10 12:21 PM
They're not good.

Margo Kidder was bogus, having superman fly backwards around the planet to turn time back, dude those movies were not good.
502482, ^^crazy talk
Posted by Calico, Tue Feb-09-10 12:33 PM
..aside from flyin backwards and the fact he told Lois at sall in Supes 2, the first three were str8 to me...drunk supes fighting himself ALONE makes 3 great....
502492, Grod was cool, but I didn't like them as much as I did when I was young
Posted by Dae021, Tue Feb-09-10 12:54 PM
They don't hold the same appeal to me.
502505, part one was pretty damn good

502622, Superman I was great until the last few minutes
Posted by Nukkapedia, Tue Feb-09-10 09:28 PM
The characterizations and situations are generally in line with how Duperman was presented in the comics in the 1960s and 1970s, save for the expected simplification of the mythos. I think it's universally agreed that the whole flying around the world backwards thing was bullshit.

Superman II as released in 1980 was a bit of a mess. OK, a lot of a mess. The Richard Donner re-edit is better, but the film as a whole is still not *that* good

Granted, I love both films, but I cn take a step back and see their flaws as well.
502911, i watched them for the first time a few months ago
Posted by thoughtprocess, Wed Feb-10-10 10:05 PM
i SERIOUSLY didn't understand the hype. and it wasn't just the effects being outdated, i'm pretty lenient on that, but the acting was so wooden. the only thing redeeming was gene hackman was funny half the time, but then he was awful the other half.
502522, did they update the article?
Posted by Nukkapedia, Tue Feb-09-10 02:47 PM
Now it only says Superman III was mediocre.
502527, Nikki must have edited Mike's initial entry

502541, ha, there weren't even pictures when i clicked at first.
Posted by duD, Tue Feb-09-10 04:02 PM
they did all kinds of edits.
502483, I really wouldn't mind a Mxyplyx or darkseid focused Supes project.
Posted by spades, Tue Feb-09-10 12:34 PM
502487, Seriously, please keep Darkseid out of the movies
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Feb-09-10 12:42 PM
Most comic book writers suck at using the character. In the hands of the average screen-writer and movie studio, it would be a disaster.
502525, yeah, the film would turn into a bootleg Masters of the Universe
Posted by Nukkapedia, Tue Feb-09-10 03:08 PM
502536, It doesn't take a Brainiac to figure out who the villain should be
Posted by buckshot defunct, Tue Feb-09-10 03:46 PM

502538, Another case where Johns has basically already written...
Posted by mrhood75, Tue Feb-09-10 03:51 PM
...the script for them.

Take the Brainiac arc from a ywar ago or so, take out Supergirl, and you've got the perfect story.

Or you can just go the "Polar Bears and giant spiders" route and use Kevin Smith's script.
502539, Take out John Peters's hard on for spiders, that was a hot script.

.
502540, ^^ from the streets
Posted by buckshot defunct, Tue Feb-09-10 03:58 PM

502554, Dude could write Superman. Now Batman, on the other hand...
Posted by CaptNish, Tue Feb-09-10 04:43 PM
...not so much.
502583, Why can't they expand the idea of what the franchise can be?
Posted by rorschach, Tue Feb-09-10 06:19 PM
Why does a trilogy have to follow each other chronologically? Can't it just be three excellent movies about Superman that tie into each other?

I always felt that they could elevate Superman a la TDK just as long as they didn't take a myopic approach by trying to make Supes 'more edgy'. Superman doesn't need to be edgy. They can make a Superman movie that explores his alienation and savior-like status among other things as long as they do one thing: give Superman someone to fight other than Lex. People want to see him fight someone--physically.

EDIT: Another thing--it would be nice if someone slipped the execs and writers copies of Action Comics #775 as inspiration.

I'd Audi 5 that bitch too if Warners wanted to pay me to keep Batman going AND restart Superman (despite what they're saying officially)

502734, Ehhh, is it even possible to make a good Superman movie?
Posted by BigReg, Wed Feb-10-10 09:36 AM
I don't know if I can watch two hours of a demi-god mope about how tough he is.

There are alot of great angles the comic uses that make some great superman stories (in particular, I love when Lex is smart+pro human).

But I don't think it would translate on screen.
502744, no, it doesn't and it wont ever really work
Posted by B9, Wed Feb-10-10 10:27 AM
What makes the ones that do work are character flaws in the hero and general depth in the "alter ego" lifestyles. When you get past the Lois Lane and "sent from a distant planet", what else is there to really explore about Superman? How Nolan will possibly make it interesting in live action form will be a challenge. Really, the most cinematically rewarding parts of this character have always been the youth portion. After that, it gets really bland quickly.
502898, Have you ever read Last Days of Krypton?

by Kevin J. Anderson? it's not a graphic novel but I thought it was a really good story. i'm not a huge superman fan at all but it was an interesting look at the back story of Krypton and the whole Superman mythos
502742, They'll have to kill him or come up with something
Posted by jetblack, Wed Feb-10-10 09:59 AM
off the damn wall. Just like the comics, his death or teaming him with Batman it was the only thing that brought attention back to Superman.

What I don't want to happen is a Twilight Saga'd out Superman, and you KNOW the studio wants that. Angsty Stupid Clark Kent... No. Please don't.

No more origin stories please, Superman has been around since 1938, we know who is he and where he's from but do we care? Batman is more interesting because he's resourceful, smart and he's human. We know why he's doing what he's doing. Superman is just an alien refugee who is the SOURCE of ALL his problems. Superman is an god-like idiot boy scout fool who I thought was cool as a child, but as an adult he's not that interesting. My SO's into Smallville and i watch it for a bit and doze off...he's boring and stupid.

Focus on Green Lantern, please.
502767, Flashbacks are more than enough

Have it all take place in the same universe as Nolan's Batman (a reference or quick shot of Batman is enough for the first flick) but just start with Clark coming to Metropolis. I can't sit through another 30-45 minutes of Ma & Pa Kent.

please, its stupid to try for another round. It can only go downhill after Dark Knight, part three of any trilogy is never to best addition. I think they should focus on other DC heroes like Green Arrow and Black Lightning.
