501461, Spilled Latte For Your Consideration
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Feb-03-10 06:50 PM
The Spilled Latte Awards voting is OCCURRING RIGHT NOW. LOOK AT THE OTHER ANCHORED POST!

Wondering if there are any movies you're missing when making your lists? Feel like you have time to check out a movie or two in the next few weeks? Thinking, "I wonder what (insert your favorite PTP poster) would recommend me examine before finalizing my selections?"

Wonder, feel, and think no more. Behold-- the FYCs for the SLAs.

In this post, campaign as hard as you want for the underdogs, the dark horses, or perhaps just post up your Top 10 list here as you're formulating it so folks know what flicks might merit consideration from them in their own thought process.

That way, we can speak freely here without cluttering the other post too much. Go for it!

501511, Not my #1, but watch Sin Nombre, people

The comparative neglect in PTP is regrettable.

My current 10:

1. 35 Shots of Rum
2. The Secret of the Grain
3. Revanche
4. Still Walking
5. Sugar
6. Sin Nombre
7. Me and Orson Welles

9. Munyurangabo
10. In the Loop
501781, I'm seeking out 35 Shots of Rum, solely cuz it's on Sponge's list.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Feb-05-10 12:01 AM
I suggest others take his recommendations seriously.

504321, 35 Shots of Rum on 4/20? They could've picked a better date imo.

501521, The Hangover, Star Trek, and... Zombieland...
Posted by phenompyrus, Wed Feb-03-10 10:32 PM
All deserve some thought when thinking of the best movie of the year, along with Avatar, Up, Inglorious Basterds, and District 9.

*edit* I realize Zombieland is a severe dark horse, but it might just be the best movie I've seen all year.
501566, The Brothers Bloom
Posted by raptor44, Thu Feb-04-10 01:12 AM
it got nowhere near an acceptable amount of notice, in my opinion.
501757, where the wild things are
Posted by theprofessional, Thu Feb-04-10 09:17 PM
even though it got generally good reviews and made box office, i think a LOT of people misunderstood this film. it's not a kid's movie, it's a movie about a kid. and all the conflicting emotions of childhood, as represented by the different "wild things" in his imagination, who each had their own personality and temperment but were all a part of him. i thought it was a masterpiece.

also, i should say that my picks in here aren't necessarily who i think should win these awards, just films and people who are getting overlooked. for example, avatar is my best picture pick and inglourious basterds is probably next after that. but those films got nominations and buzz, whereas WTWTA has gotten completely overlooked (even in the music category, which i think is egregious).

HA! ... If only for the fact that he tells an American tourist to kiss his sweaty balls (and for any other amount of amazing dialogue that Scottish people have in that movie)

501523, I got an obvious one, and a suprisingly not so obvious one...
Posted by phenompyrus, Wed Feb-03-10 10:36 PM
Waltz did a fantastic job in Basterds, so that's an obvious one.

As for the 'surprise'?

You mean to tell me that of all these year end lists for the major awards are leaving off Zach Galafanackis from The Hangover? Really? He deserves to be at *least* mentioned.
501759, i agree with you on zach galifianakis
Posted by theprofessional, Thu Feb-04-10 09:20 PM
if anything was award worthy about that film, it was him.
501678, Tom Hollander - In the Loop
Posted by jigga, Thu Feb-04-10 02:45 PM
501695, RE: Tom Hollander - In the Loop
Posted by Sponge, Thu Feb-04-10 04:04 PM
I'm in the minority in saying I found Hollander funnier than Capaldi.
501701, RE: Tom Hollander - In the Loop
Posted by jigga, Thu Feb-04-10 04:26 PM
>I'm in the minority in saying I found Hollander funnier than
>Capaldi.

Yeah he was waaaaaaay more subdued but he got off some great zingers too. Capaldi got off to a great start but his act started to wear thin towards the end. David Rasche deserves a mention to. Can't recall what his catchphrase was but he was consistently crackin me up as well.
501793, Zach Woods as Chad, the kissass American assistant, was also great.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Feb-05-10 01:09 AM
Everytime he shit talked to Anna Chlumsky, I was on the fucking floor.
501753, anthony mackie - the hurt locker
Posted by theprofessional, Thu Feb-04-10 09:07 PM
i thought he was the standout performance of the film, while renner was a bit jack bauer at times. i'm surprised mackie has gotten pretty much no buzz.
