488887, the filmmakers who are all 3 - actor/writer/director - post
Posted by Wordman, Sat Nov-28-09 03:14 AM
was having convo about the few filmmakers who are an actor, writer, and director. And since we all know I love to share my film convos with PTP...
Post filmmakers who are (and/or qualify as) an actor, a writer, AND a director.

Ron also wins for being a big time producer.

though I guess the writing on Kane is probably much more due to Mankiewicz.
488978, oh yeah, that's all Mankiewicz

And here we can add producer, studio boss, and if we define the term loosely enough, composer.

however, wes is a voice in "fantastic mr fox" and i believe one of the voices of the tennis commentators in "royal tenenbaums"

489378, That's a stretch if I ever saw one
Posted by zuma1986, Tue Dec-01-09 08:53 PM
I mean just b/c you're in a film doesn't really make you an actor. I don't consider Stan Lee an actor and he's probably done more work than Cameron Crowe has.

488983, I actually love it.

But from what I've seen in PTP the census tend to be that he used to be the poster boy of the hipster revolution in the beginning. I like Scrub, although I haven't seen it lately, but what I hope for Mr. Braff is making great films, instead of starring in average films.

Clint Eastwood

Kevin Costner

not sure if they did any writing on their projects tho, but got the actor, director, producer
489390, No for either
Posted by zuma1986, Tue Dec-01-09 09:12 PM
But I would have guessed that Clint would have at least a co-writing credit for one of his films but I guess not.

489582, Even though most of his movies are improv

The basic concepts for them are so great. They could easily work as dramatic films just as well as comedies.
489381, Emilio Estevez

He's actually not that bad a director either, I'm sure if he worked hard enough he could be taken more serious.

Yes he's only acted in 1 legitimate role but the post didn't have a set criteria. I figure b/c it's more than just a bit part like Cameron Crowe or Hitchcock.
489387, Martin Scorsese
Posted by zuma1986, Tue Dec-01-09 09:10 PM
Mostly bit parts but his performances in Taxi Driver and Dreams are both powerful and I think get him enough credit to be considered somewhat of an actor. I highly recommend watching Dreams for his performance alone.
489392, Sylvester Stallone
Posted by zuma1986, Tue Dec-01-09 09:16 PM
I still can't believe he wrote both Rhinestone Cowboy and Staying Alive. I figured RC was a studio pic that he got suckered into and Staying Alive was just to expand his directing muscle and get his brother into the film industry but I guess he had passion for both.... for some reason
489393, Peter Berg

I really hope he's able to write something as good as FNL again. This guy is all over in terms of quality of work he chooses to do.
