483708, Mark my Word, my short will be in Sundance Next Year
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Oct-28-09 12:37 PM
Yeah I said it. I got a kick ass script. Experience and connected producers and director. About to lock in a DP who is proven with the Red One and we will be well funded. Got everything lined up....except casting. I'm in NYC so there is definitely a lot of talent but still very worried about it. One character in particular, Big Country. A tall loud larger than life southern college student. Well educated and articulate but doesn't hide his southern roots who can quote UGK as well as Milton Friedman. This character is the source of much entertainment and can make or break them film.

We will do a casting call and hire a casting agent but I am totally open to casting suggestions. Any ideas?

That young actors award had me shook because it doesn't seem like that there are a lot of young fresh faces out there.

I trust that you are going to put out something worthy of an award.
483897, I like this idea a lot.

Real concern about finding actors who are southern in NYC but I am sure Howard would be a good look. Thanks.

Posted by notnac, Fri Oct-30-09 11:01 AM
I worked grip once. Seriously, it's listed here: http://www.rp63.com/bampinay/credits.htm (but I'm not sure if that helps or hurts my cause).
484156, If you are in NYC there will be a lot of work to go around
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Oct-30-09 11:40 AM
For instance, we will need someone to work a casting call pretty soon. If you are anywhere else I don't think it would be very practical.

Yeah, Sundance would be closer though so when it happens, holler. I'd be willing to hustle there as well, if needed.

Anyway, good vibes to the production.
485925, My WIsh List for Big Country
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Wed Nov-11-09 03:40 PM
Okay, so my producers asked me to put together a wish list of actors for the role of big country. I came up with the list below.

Phonte http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/video-archive/lectures/phonte__bro_where_art_though (when I think of Big Country I see this guy. I'll concede he may look a little old.)
Aldis Hodge http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0388038/
Lance Gross http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2342614/bio
Nate Parker http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1676649/
Mr. Chi City http://www.collegehumor.com/user:1784736 (okay this is not so much a casting idea since I have no idea what this guy even looks like, but his performance in these video clips are very inline wih what I would expect of Big Country.)

Now I need to come up with a wish list for a female lead. Smart, serious pre-med college sister. Like a lot of male writers I haven't given this character as much consideration as the male leads. I could only come up with Zoe Kravitz not because I have seen her work but because she looks good and would add good buzz value. Any other young actress out there worth adding to the wish list?

502488, Any website designers type guys here?
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Tue Feb-09-10 12:42 PM
I don't know anything about websites. I have reserved the domain name and I do have a template that I would like to use

http://www.templatehelp.com/preset/pr_preview.php?i=25353&pr_code=e26LVbrq8rUOas4ED4N0z1FwpQL6sK.

Anybody skilled enough and run with it?

Also, as far as casting goes I am fixated on these women http://thosegirlsarewild.com/videos/. I think its rare to find attractive funny women. What y'all think?

506247, Update: Had a casting session this weekend past
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Mar-01-10 04:45 PM
out of 250 submissions we invited 50 people in to audition. About 35 showed up to audition. There was a range of talent. From Video chicks to off broadway theater people. The women were stronger then the men. We had a lot of talented women audition for the lead but in my mind only one girl was a talented actress and was perfect for the role. There was only one guy who was a talented actor and was perfect for the comedic role of the best friend. There was only one actor who was talented enough for the lead but I do have some reservations about whether he was right for the role. Since we are unsure about casting the lead we are having another weekend of auditions, mainly for the male lead.
