476022, The Office :: Season 6
Posted by will_5198, Thu Sep-17-09 12:32 PM
premiere is tonight (almost forgot).

"Gossip" -- written and directed by Paul Lieberstein.
476029, were not doing individual episode posts like years past?
Posted by HighVoltage, Thu Sep-17-09 01:24 PM
this could get out of hand in one post
476038, weren't some of those only getting 8-10 replies?
Posted by LiShang52, Thu Sep-17-09 01:53 PM
476107, did they?
Posted by HighVoltage, Thu Sep-17-09 06:45 PM
i thought they were like 40 each.. eh, well see how it goes
476153, mostly people regurgitating lines.
Posted by disco dj, Thu Sep-17-09 11:03 PM
and there weren't too many lines tonight.

other than the Brad Pitt exchange between Oscar and The 'Nard Dog...

( NBC telegraphed all the funny stuff on the promos)

476039, take it as one if you'd like

476089, awesome; Toby wrote the Dwight's Speech ep
Posted by magilla vanilla, Thu Sep-17-09 04:56 PM
as well as The Carpet, Health Care, The Coup, Money and the last ep of last season, which was good up till the pregnancy.
476113, Fuck man..I didnt see this post a second ago when I made my post.

476124, Erin: I'm glad you're eating again...
Posted by Lardlad95, Thu Sep-17-09 08:16 PM
Kelly: Yeah, me too...

man...I never realized how much I wanna sleep with Kelly...also...hilarious episode.
476145, Ennh. I understand they had to set it up....
Posted by disco dj, Thu Sep-17-09 10:46 PM
But I'm really scared that Michael Scott has DEFINITELY been inflicted with "Homer Simpson's Disease" ( aka 'too-stupid-to-even-be-believeable'). and The Parkour bit ran a bit too long.

Not a bad start though. I'm looking forward to this season.

I'm wondering what big subplot will make up the bulk of the season.

476148, Been infected? As in past tense?
Posted by Lardlad95, Thu Sep-17-09 10:52 PM
476151, well, like I said, it started last season.
Posted by disco dj, Thu Sep-17-09 10:59 PM
but now he's a full blown imbecile.

The phone call to Stanley's wife was pure idiocy. who would *really* do that?

476157, I just figure out ways to get with Mindy Kaling and k.i.m.
Posted by Lardlad95, Thu Sep-17-09 11:26 PM
also the rest of the cast never fails to disappoint...though that Parkour thing was too long the second it started.

476204, Last season he showed way more savvy than he did in Season 4.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Sep-18-09 07:41 AM
476258, he's stupid but his 'flood the office w/ rumors' idea kind of worked!
Posted by buckshot defunct, Fri Sep-18-09 11:39 AM
I thought the Parkour thing still worked even if it was a little bit physical and cartoony for what The Office typically does (kind of like that crazy ass fire drill or whatever it was from last season)

But used sparingly, those kind of moments have a lot of impact because they aren't what you expect from this show
476264, Kevin the REALLY dumb one, Michael is more deluded
Posted by Grand_Royal, Fri Sep-18-09 12:04 PM

catch a swollen heart, from not rollin' smart
476169, I am a HUGE fan of this show
Posted by Clark Kent, Fri Sep-18-09 12:21 AM
last season sucked. no questions asked. I think they realized it was starting to suck in season 4 and really sucked in 5 and based on this first ep I'm gonna say they picked up the slack, but we're not out of the woods yet.
477529, Really, Last season was the best seasons in years
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Fri Sep-25-09 02:53 PM
the Michael Scott Paper Co. was the most interesting thing they've done with the show in a while.

My favorite moment had to be all the questions and comments after they announced the pregnancy.

"Who's the father?"

"Vaccinate it now"

"Who's your OBGYN?"
476199, Then I thought 'Pam doesn't NEED padding'
Posted by magilla vanilla, Fri Sep-18-09 07:18 AM
Kevin was a damn fool this ep
476203, Decent beginning. It'll be tough to follow last season.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Sep-18-09 07:39 AM
The new characters and subplots last year were inspired. I do like the "Andy Bernard ponders his sexuality" subplot in theory-- let's see what they do with it (he definitely does need to be featured more, being one of the funniest parts of the show). His first confessional was the highlight of the episode for me.

We needed more Dwight this ep, after he was the all-star last season. Still, it was fun to see Steve Carell get to do more of the old "I want to be included" shtick that he does so well. The poopball speech made me howl.

I like the Jim/Pam couple repor. When he makes a joke and she gives him the stink eye, that feels real to me and is way funnier than when they're both making jokes together. Give them some real couple back-and-forth dialogue, and the Jim/Pam moments would be waaaay better. Right now, they're too uneven.

Only downside? You KNOW Stanley wouldn't have said all that shit to Michael, lol. Cmon.

But I'm nitpicking. Solid start.

Agreed. I'd definitely like to see Andy get more screen time this year. I think he's the funniest character on the show, although Dwight can still be great as well. I also hope they keep pairing up Kelly and the new receptionist. They're sort of funny together, but really I just find both attractive so why not have them in scenes together frequently? If they wanted to have them dance like last year, that'd be cool too. But yeah, more Andy too.
476250, when Andy jumped in the box i almost died
Posted by CherNic, Fri Sep-18-09 11:18 AM
I'm just now hopping on the boat. I bought the first 4 seasons for 18 bux each so I'm catching up quickly. I think last night started pretty decent...Michael is a complete idiot but he plays idiot so well
476256, Easily the best episode of the season

477426, Episode 2 - The Meeting
Posted by sl_onIce, Fri Sep-25-09 06:12 AM
not a whole lot of funny in this ep.

Andy needs more screen time for sure.
The Oscar intro might have been funny if it weren't a variation on the same 'Michael is ignorant about homosexuality' joke that we've seen over and over again.

This whole episode felt to me like a time out from the comedy to push ahead a strange plotline--Jim becoming comanager. This reminds me of the Jim-Pam soap opera days.

477598, dwight and toby detective agency was the best part to me
Posted by osu_no_1, Sat Sep-26-09 12:44 AM
the red mark on toby's forehead after they discover the true cause of the accident and discuss how to solve things

also, andy as the cheese cart server was hilarious.
489808, Episode 12: Scott's Tots
Posted by will_5198, Thu Dec-03-09 10:39 PM
this was, without a doubt, the most terrible fucking episode in the history of the show.

there was nothing funny about Michael's plotline. the writers crafted a scenario that replaced the show's awkward humor with flat out cruelty.

and the WORST part was, the whole set up was just a predictable way for him to appreciate Erin. that was the fucking payoff.
489827, Even Creed's line wasn't funny
Posted by simpsycho, Fri Dec-04-09 12:03 AM
I've gotta admit though, Dwight impersonating people from the office on the phone was kinda funny.

489830, Man...this hurts.
Posted by FamisZhackPierre, Fri Dec-04-09 12:25 AM
The show is dying before our very eyes.

I guess the concept was interesting...in theory...but as it played out?...awkward...mildly offensive...peculiar...

whatever it was, funny wasn't in there...

The tots' "What ya gonna do?" tribute to Michael was "meh."

This show used to make me laugh...consistently...several times in an episode...now I'm asking myself why I'm still watching this...I know the writers/actors can tell it's coming to an end...

However, not all bad...Michael/Erin ish was corny...but Dwight's plan had some funny moments.

It's time to put Scranton to rest, though...it's clear.

With that being said(Larry David), I'll be back next week.
489911, i dont thinkt he season is bad i just think people are bored of the show
Posted by Heinz, Fri Dec-04-09 03:02 PM
Parks And Rec is killing it this seasons tho
489920, Every show gets this type of backlash after it's been on a while
Posted by OldPro, Fri Dec-04-09 03:52 PM
Everything gets blown out of proportion ... it's not the best season but it's not awful either. Most of the time it entertains me for 30 minutes and that's all I want and need out of any show.

490035, i agree w/ a good bit of the backlash
Posted by The Goldng Child, Sat Dec-05-09 02:17 PM
but i must say that dwight's line about having all ten fingers on one hand was brilliant.
490232, i never cared about the silly plotlines on this show
Posted by AZ, Sun Dec-06-09 05:58 PM
as long as the show was funny. now it's not even funny anymore. and michael scott has turned from being someone that generally makes me cringe to someone that generally makes me angry.

since jokes, i guess, are not longer something that this show is interested in, at this point, all i want is to see michael get run over by a dump truck.
490244, O-VER ANA-LYZED! *clap clap clapclapclap*

michael telling a bunch of third graders that he will pay for their college is COMPLETELY in character

when he talked about thinking he would be a millionaire by then? you know that was the truth

and since when does michael think shit out before he talks...he's always saying ridiculous stuff...and he did backhandedly help those kids out with graduating, plus now they know not to count on white people in suits

was that a hilarious storyline...no...was it funny when he brought up laptops, then gave them batteries?...yes

dwight manipulating everyone in the office perfectly, yet having his plan fail? and leaving his plan in the copier like he leaves his ninja weapons everywhere?...funny...maybe not hilarious, but funny

summation...the show has not been as funny since folks left to do parks and rec...but it's still solid, and it's not like they've lost the characters...they just need a good ensemble episode to bring everyone back in

490472, Ensemble...that's the answer...
Posted by FamisZhackPierre, Mon Dec-07-09 08:33 PM
Everything you mentioned was funny...in theory.

Something about the execution was lacking, though...maybe I am just getting "tired" of the show, but it used to be funny from beginning to end...now?...this whole bit about Scott's Tots was the focal point of the show and only a few seconds of it were actually funny...the batteries.

The show is not done...by any means. But it is clear that it is coming to an end, if not literally, then in terms of quality.

This show did not rise to greatness b/c you could sit through it, grin once or twice and say afterwards, "That was a funny idea...and it is totally in keeping w/(fill in the blank here)'s character."

You laughed out loud several times...quoted it...laughed again when you and your friends talked about it...but now?...not so much, if at all.

That being said, I'm not giving up on it.

>was that a hilarious storyline...no...was it funny when he
>brought up laptops, then gave them batteries?...yes

could have been funny, but not in that context. the completely unfunny set up was not worth the minor chuckle from the battery thing.

>>dwight manipulating everyone in the office perfectly, yet
>having his plan fail? and leaving his plan in the copier like
>he leaves his ninja weapons everywhere?...funny...maybe not
>hilarious, but funny

completely unfunny.

they should go back to writing funny jokes and situations and forget about trying to create drama. anyone who looks to the office for drama is probably a moron. no need to water it down to the lowest common denominator for those people, especially when the end product is plain bad.
490598, I hate to say it
Posted by chief1284, Tue Dec-08-09 06:26 PM
But all the negativity in here is justified. If anything it's too muted. The show has unfortunately fallen off, hard. I can't even put my finger on it but the recent episodes I've been watching and actively trying to enjoy it, but it just hasn't been very funny. It's really just boring now. Even the drama, which I never really enjoyed, has gotten worse. The sexual tension between jim and Pam, based off the UK Office, was actually well done. Now its just shitty arguments and falling outs.

Please call it a day, I'll still remember it as an A+ show if we stop now.
491064, That was the first ep all season that felt like an office episode

Bitter Santa Michael was hilarious

Kevin sitting on his lap was hilarious

Bob showing up at the end looking to kick ass was hilarious

And Andy gettin' it in with Erin, I ain't mad at all

Mindy came up with another good one...

Michael was misguided, but not beyond redemption as he usually has been this season.

Hopefully this will signal a return to form.
