"Based on a true story..." sports films. Because no matter what the true story was, screenwriters always warp and adapt it to fit the same ol' fucking traditional themes and tropes that every other fucking fictional sports movie uses. See: "Fever Pitch" and the "Friday Night Lights" film. The latter sorta got some of it right, but it almost completely ignored the racial, class, and social commentary of the book, besides making the "Black" team they play in the championship look like a bunch of evil thug hooligans.

Th is is why I'm glad "Moneyball" is now dead in the water. Even if they decideded it was an unfilmable movie with a non-traditional script, I'd rather it not get made than have some hack turn it paint-by-numbers cheese.
