but they'd definitely make my list, if only for the way that the characters' respective mythologies are churned over + built up to spike the anticipation before their actual onscreen third-act reveals.

I'm sure someone said Hannibal Lecter, but to me he was never really a villain. He wasn't the hero either, but I didn't view him that way in any of the flicks. It was Buffalo Bill, Gary Oldman fucked up in a wheelchair, and the Ralph Fiennes.
