455706, You heard it here first....McBRIDE is overrated
Posted by MANHOODLUM, Sat Jun-06-09 09:54 AM
It's real nice of Will Ferrell (sp) to take this guy under his wing and co-sign him. It really is. I love underdog stories.

It was nice of Judd Apatow to put him in Pineapple Express (IMO, the weak-link in Apatow movies). No sarcasm, really.

I saw "The Foot Fist" way, and really, it was cool. Real original.I dug it...even though it took 2 sittings to finish it.

Underrated/underdog worshiping should cease, though.I hope he's not seen as "the next genius", because at best, he shouldn't upgraded beyond "supporting role".

He's pretty one-note.

That's all.

Big ass co-sign and "Foot Fist Way" is great too. He may be recycling similar stuff at this point but those stand up.
455715, Overrated by whom?
Posted by ZooTown74, Sat Jun-06-09 10:50 AM
His career's been defined thus far by a series of supporting and cameo roles and a possible career-defining role on a sitcom that's lasted all of 6 episodes (so far). So whom exactly is bigging-up Danny McBride like that? If the answer is "the media," well... they are paid to hype people up, yes?

Or is this yet another thinly-veiled attack on alleged "PTP Hipsters?"

"Foot Fist Way" was aight.

"Pineapple Express"...Franco stole the show. McBride was cool.

"Tropic Thunder"? He was barely established...too early too phone something in.

good character? Granted, but "the next comedic wonderkind"? Hell...no.

Really, I'm more offended you called this "thinly-veiled" lol
458864, how does "barely established"="phoning it in?"
Posted by the sway, Wed Jun-24-09 07:52 AM

>"Tropic Thunder"? He was barely established...too early too
>phone something in.

in the scenes he was in, he was very funny...he doesn't control how prominent his character is tho
455724, uh... who ever called him a genius?

>Underrated/underdog worshiping should cease, though.I hope

I have NEVER heard him being referred to as such by ANYBODY. Not on this board or anywhere else.
455732, So is Craig Robinson overrated as well?
Posted by SoulHonky, Sat Jun-06-09 12:50 PM
I'd say they are on the same level. McBride might get a notch above because of Eastbound and Down.

This post seems to be overrating McBride so that it can hate on him.
455764, unnecesary hatred

I like the guy.

And as many nay-sayers have, and will, appear on this post...I'd like to be the first to say...this guy is FAR from some up'n coming "genius".

Yep, I said "genius".

and if you don't know about him completely stealing an indie hipster romance (from, if you knew shit about film, was directed by the same dude that did Pineapple Express, so really it's a DGG connection to Pineapple Express more than it is a Judd Apatow or Will Farrell connection) with only about 5% of the screen time, then you don't know shit, son.

It's real nice of Joe Piscopo (sp) to take this guy under his wing and co-sign him. It really is. I love underdog stories.

It was nice of Stephen Herek to put him in Holy Man (IMO, the weak-link in Stephen Herek movies). No sarcasm, really.

I saw "Vampire in Brooklyn", and really, it was cool. Real original. I dug it...even though it took 2 sittings to finish it.

he's in almost every scene and KILLS it. Also, and I do realize this is MY opinion but...

McBride > Carrey
456044, Eastbound and Down is by a hundred miles his best work.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jun-08-09 11:49 AM
And I wasn't a Jody Hill fan at all until EB&D.

Overall I find McBride to be funny, but EB&D shows his true potential as a comedic actor, because he has to find ways to work in more than just the "asshole guy" routine-- he has to ACT. And he does so beautifully.
456088, to be fair though
Posted by Numba_33, Mon Jun-08-09 02:16 PM
if the person that made this post see Eastbound and Down and then likes it, but still feels McBride's other work is shoddy, he is still entitled to feel dude of over-rated. Not saying I necessarily agree with the poster, but one show isn't enough to out weight the fact the poster doesn't like the majority of McBride's work.
456204, He didn't say he didn't like McBride's other work, though.
Posted by Orfeo_Negro, Mon Jun-08-09 09:29 PM
He just said that the work he's seen isn't enough to justify the props McBride gets... which is a pointless statement when you haven't even seen the work that he gets the most props for.

458911, man...I reall am surprised at the lukewarm response to PA
Posted by Big Chief Rumbletummy, Wed Jun-24-09 02:38 PM

To me that was the funniest film in quite a while. As I said previously, I think School of Rock is the funniest film of the 200Oughts but I think Pineapple Express is 2nd.

I thought Seth Rogen was just fine in it, I think McBride was insanely funny, and I thought the pairing of Corrigan and Robinson was brilliant and I wished there would have been more of them. I thought the subplots of "the Chinese" and Dale's highschool-age girlfriend were great and I though Bill Heder stole the show at the beginning.

I think Gordon Green was just fine. I'm unfamiliar with anything else he may have done so I don't know if this is his A-Game or not.

Oddly enough...even though I think he was rock solid and won't detract from his performance in any way...I think Franco was not as great as most have given him credit for. My one complaint would be that Gary Cole could have been given much funnier stuff to do. It should be a criminal act fro a screenwriter or a director any time he's misused in a film. James Remar could have been gievn more as well.

Corrigan certainly needed more screen time

I thought the subplots of "the Chinese" and Dale's
>highschool-age girlfriend were great and I though Bill Heder

I could've done w/o all this

>I think Gordon Green was just fine. I'm unfamiliar with
>anything else he may have done so I don't know if this is his
>A-Game or not.

I've only seen Snow Angels but I met him at that screening & he seems like a cool dude. I just added All the Real Girls to my Netflix tho.

>Oddly enough...even though I think he was rock solid and won't
>detract from his performance in any way...I think Franco was

Seriously? Cause I couldn't stand Franco before I saw this movie & I thought he killed it. I mean I went to Western so I know some stoners just like Saul. He nailed that performance.

My one
>complaint would be that Gary Cole could have been given much
>funnier stuff to do. It should be a criminal act fro a

Yeah I expected much more from him as well. He's hilarious.
