Orbit_Established got a bonafide Tyler Perry hater to sit down, stop what he was doing, watch this film AND ADMIT THAT IT WAS GOOD. For this guy to admit the film was "good" in the open, he definitely thought the film was "great," but most certainly couldn't admit it.
GODDAMN I'm good.
>Was it better than I expected? Certainly. Fuck at certain >points I was down right engaged.
LOL.
Two points for the Orbster.
>But come the fuck on. A >masterpiece? This is exactly what I mean when I say that word >is used too often.
LOL.
I used a shock post title to get you to watch a Tyler Perry film that was well-made, that you were "engaged(your words)" in, and that you admitted to everyone was "good."
Two points for the Orbster
>It was much better than Perry's other films.
Translation: "I slept. Tyler Perry made a damn good movie."
Two points for the Orbster
>And hell it was >at least on par with a lot of overly dramatic oscar contenders >that aren't really all that great, but that doesn't mean it's >a "masterpiece".
Translation: "I liked this film a lot and as family movies with a slight serious tone goes, its one of the better ones I've seen."
>Now I understand why OE brought up Million >Dollar Baby and Crash...cuz this is definitely in that >category. Congrats homie, the movie is in "good" company.
Hey, you act like I pulled those from thin air.
Those are academy award winners, doggie.
LOL.
>Bates and Woodard are both superb actors so their performances >were great even if these weren't their best roles. Some of the >other actors gave good performances too. And the story was >engrossing, but kind of in the way that a John Grisham novel >is engrossing. A good read, but dude isn't gonna win any >pulitzers.
Translation: "The acting was good, the characters were good, the script was well written, which is why I cared about the characters and what they did."
Goddamn O_E, you're good.
>The story was ok but over all the film suffered from Tyler >Perry's main faults.
Translation: "I've said enough good things, now let me get back on track and manufacture some things."
Two points for the Orbster
1 dimensional characters (this wasn't as >much of a problem in this film as it was in his others),
LOL. Not only were the characters not any more 1 dimensional than any other GOOD movie of its kind, the main ones were particularly nuanced, and you know that.
Notice how you tied that specifically to Tyler Perry's skill level, though. Being that most of his other movies are comedies, I'm not sure what element of character "depth" was supposed to be on display for you to make that extrapolation.
>exposition where no exposition is needed (Taraji and Sanaa's >first scene in the diner comes to mind), and a fucking dues ex >machina ending that a child could have predicted 30 minutes >in.
Well, I'm smarter than you, and I didn't predict that.
>Come on...who didn't know Nick was gonna show up at the >end?
Me, and again, I'm smarter than you are.
>And on the race relation stuff...more subtle than he has >been, but there were some heavy handed parts.
LOL - where did they *explicitly* mention race outside of the VERY beginning?
LOL. Idiot.
>And there was no >reason to bring up Spike Lee, different types of films, >different commentaries on race.
LOL - Its its not like they each have films that attempt to depict realistic interactions between black people and white people.
In the context that I was describing, bringing up Spike Lee(and notice that I did so very briefly) was completely appropriate.
>You're right homie...I am an idiot, for engaging you in a >debate over a movie that was good, but not nearly good enough >to warrant the time I spent on it.
Translation: "I'm not going to admit it, but you had a series of excellent points about this movie, which is why I haven't rebutted a single one of them. Good shit, O_E."
>Masterpiece...LMAO!
Translation: "It wasn't quite better than 'The Godfather' but it was damn good."
