453934, FOOD, INC. (Trailer)
Posted by DawgEatah, Thu May-28-09 03:31 PM
It's been making the Festival Rounds and has a limited release on June 12, 2009. Hopefully it will start to make the Landmark Theater rounds shortly after.

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that’s been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. Food, Inc. reveals surprising — and often shocking truths — about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

I don't know how this is gonna go over.

Especially when they show a farmer's market in the clip.

I know she, Anthony Bourdain and a bunch of other big name food folks are hosting the premiere:

The reaction to the slow food festival last year wasn't very kind, even from the left.

I'd say it's about 40% Omnivore's Dilemna, 35% Fast Food Nation, and 25% new information. I will say I liked how the film was paced and how the different sections of the movie were put together.

If I had any kind of willpower, I would have given up chicken and beef totally after reading Fast Food Nation. I'm good on the beef part, but chicken feels so good when it hits the taste buds.
457864, this was in high school i think
Posted by gusto, Thu Jun-18-09 01:35 AM
i think it coincided with Lent so it kinda worked out. i think i had McDonalds maybe a week after watching supersize me.

never saw FFN.

this will be interesting.
457694, you read the bible, koran, or torah?
Posted by k_orr, Wed Jun-17-09 08:57 AM
457865, um, did you read the jungle, bible dont talk about
Posted by gusto, Thu Jun-18-09 01:36 AM
how meat is handled at processing plants and farms.

and nah, never read those anyway.
457721, Meh. It will only drive me to be more selective of the meat i eat.
Posted by DawgEatah, Wed Jun-17-09 11:36 AM
And help motivate me to stay away from processed foods.

Nothing wrong with eating organic, free-range, sustainable meat.

But that topic of conversation is not what this post is about. lol

Why not? The movie somewhat delves into that topic at one point.

isnt beef, pork and chicken all sustainable though?
457637, it's excellent
Posted by navajo joe, Tue Jun-16-09 08:19 PM
very much following the structure of omnivore's dilemma in certain ways, but very much its own film.

some terrifying stuff regarding food policy and how large companies are getting over on folks.

joel salatin's monologue got a big ovation during our screening. they did an excellent job of not making you feel helpless walking out of there. it'll be interesting to see how it plays. i got my gf the accompanying book and look forward to reading it as well.

457638, how wrong would it be to have gummy bears and coke while

459383, Just got back from it. I really enjoyed it. It's sort of tip of the ...
Posted by DawgEatah, Fri Jun-26-09 09:24 PM
... iceberg and "The Truth About Food 101" as far as content, but i think it was done very well. I took my mom who is a very conservative "robot-type" and she really enjoyed it and has starting thinking differently about food already. more importantly it sparked a dialogue that she normally would never engage in. That's a success in my book.

For those who are well versed in the subject matter, it's probably mostly old news "no duh" type stuff. This is a better starting place for people who have yet to or have just begun to open their eyes.

But I suggest you support the film though and go see it.
And take a friend.
