Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford are about a billion times more likable than Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, and Ewan MacGregor in the prequels.

The dialogue (which I believe IS worse in the prequels, btw) doesn't help, but if your "heroes" in a sci-fi/fantasy series aren't at least CHARMING if not LIKABLE, then you are doomed, simple and plain, because the films won't connect to the audience.
