i think another thing was that the only thing that balanced off the darkness of the prequels was a love story with weak acting from the couple. the originals had darkness but they had some really fun moments to balance it off. and the family/love story between han and leia was stronger.
and outside of jar-jar (only because he was annoying), the cgi was amazing and contributed a lot to the prequels. i don't care if it didn't look like the puppets of the originals.
