440598, Stringer Bell says... (spoiler inside) Posted by Reflect, Thu Mar-12-09 02:45 PM
his death was "rushed." Idris Elba was on NPR's "Fresh Air" today (talked about his upcoming stint on "The Office" as well) and said he didn't understand how Omar and Brother Mouzone could meet and conspire so fast to murk him. He did kinda admit that he was unhappy he wasn't gettin' that check no more, lol.
Here's the link, also includes the introduction of his character in The Office:

440604, Don't ever search youtube for 'The Wire' Posted by Jayson Willyams, Thu Mar-12-09 03:02 PM
even if you're looking for a specific scene. All the "related videos" have massive spoilers in the titles. That's how I found out about the scene that ^^^this guy just spoiled for you.
But yeah, the original post is bush league. Don't put shit like that in post titles, ESPECIALLY re: the Wire. That shit is sacred, man.
|
440636, Yeah, unwritten rule. Don't look at shit with 'The Wire' in it Posted by Orbit_Established, Thu Mar-12-09 05:39 PM
On the internet. Nothing.
Not until you've seen them all. Wack, but that's the breaks

440789, ^^^Can't wait to see how the Godfather 2 turns out Posted by mcdeezjawns, Fri Mar-13-09 12:43 PM
If it takes you 5 years to see something, and then you get mad at someone for ruining it by talking about it when they've seen it in a normal person's timely manner, you're a jerkoff
and no one should have to be on your jerkoff schedule
With that said: Darth Vader is Luke Skywalkers father, In "A Beautiful Mind" he's just crazy, and they DO finally throw the ring in the volcano in the The Return of the King
Man, I cant wait till you get to see Omar Get killed

440644, but the symmetry of the season was so perfect Posted by Iltigo, Thu Mar-12-09 06:58 PM
both "reformers" were killed in their own respective ways.
bunny lost his pension, was position by getting fired and lost his good retirement job (security job)
string lost his money, position in the hierarchy with avon and his retirement job (legit b&b condos)
it was beautiful...

|
440707, nah, that was part of the season's theme Posted by will_5198, Thu Mar-12-09 11:16 PM
Bunny and Stringer were examples of the futility and personal consequences for those who try to reform the drug trade

440666, Stringer Bell Posted by BigWorm, Thu Mar-12-09 09:33 PM
He's just bitter cause they wrote him off the show.
But it was clearly the right time to kill him off.
The whole season built up to it.
Stringer thought he could rise from just a thug on the street to a corrupt businessman. But the actual corrupt businessmen knew how to con him and then his ways on the street caught up with him.
There was no way he was making it to season 4.
Granite he was a good bad guy. Way better than Marlo. But he had to go.
|
440668, Yeah, it was his time. Posted by ZooTown74, Thu Mar-12-09 09:50 PM
I don't make much of what he said, I just read it as a "dang it, I missed getting more of that Wire bread," but he had to know his time was coming... whether it was in season 3 or season 4...
And gang, please be careful with them spoilers... even though it's been a few years, not everyone can watch the joints when we watch em, so just look out for your folks on them title spoilers... and yeah, as you can see, it *is* that serious... thnx ________________________________________________________________________ Enjoy the silence.

440904, Wow, did people actually listen to the interview? Posted by mrhood75, Sat Mar-14-09 01:01 PM
Elba didn't complain that they killed him off, he said that it made sense and had to happen. He was upset at the time for losing his steady-paycheck, but knew it was part of the game.
The only thing he said was rushed was Omar and Brother Mouzone getting together to track him down. He said usually the writers stretched things out over the season, whereas the whole saga unfolded in what, two or three episodes?

440908, he came off as a dick to me in this interview Posted by kinetic20, Sat Mar-14-09 01:18 PM
and his accent on the office clip was horrendous im eager to see the ep but i was really eh at the interview
|
440942, the dialect problem was noticeable in the Wire Posted by BigWorm, Sat Mar-14-09 04:45 PM
Every now and then something very un-ghetto came up in his voice. By season two I went to check imdb cause I was sure he wasn't really American.
|
441033, "un-ghetto"? Posted by Mynoriti, Sun Mar-15-09 02:49 PM
wouldn't that work since it was part of stringer bell's persona to try and appear more sophisticated that the average gangster?
unless you're talking specifically about a british accent which would be pretty funny in a wire parody.
i'm not sure what specific moments referring to because i never really caught it. mcnulty's accent was obvious at times though.
