438003, Important Things-Demetri Martin: anybody watching??
Posted by The Rapture7, Mon Mar-02-09 12:28 PM
I am, and the shit's hilarious http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/important_things/index.jhtml

do that
438013, yeah it's pretty funny
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Mon Mar-02-09 12:46 PM
who knew semi-hipster nerd humor could be so appealing?

438052, he's actually quite Seinfeld-ian as far as subject matter
Posted by The Rapture7, Mon Mar-02-09 01:44 PM
which, in it's could be blamed/thanked for the basis of the hipster mindset, but I like how it's not all about being obscure and abstract, but how miniscule shit is just funny in it's own right
438110, that parallel parking skit was right outta Seinfeld.
Posted by FortifiedLive, Mon Mar-02-09 03:48 PM
438276, indeed
Posted by The Rapture7, Tue Mar-03-09 08:28 AM
438517, great to see Jon Benjamin
Posted by sfMatt, Wed Mar-04-09 01:38 AM
438015, Its funny but the transitions (none) make it awkward.
Posted by Castro, Mon Mar-02-09 12:46 PM
Its like, OK that was funny.- *laughter* Martin turns to Camera 2...*crickets*

No transition...

that is my only qualm with the show- its unique, he's a funny dude, I hope they give it time to develop.
438051, sometimes, they work
Posted by The Rapture7, Mon Mar-02-09 01:40 PM
but yeah, I feel you...my only real gripe is the skits...they tend to have that SNL-"we're gonna punch this joke in the face til SOMEbody laughs" effect to them, but he keeps them somewhat brief, and focuses on his stand-up, which I think is his major strength...

overall though, it's probably my favorite sketch show since Chappelle (not saying it's as good, but I really like it)
438061, That dude is a genius
Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Mar-02-09 02:07 PM
Haven't heard a new comedian with such a distinctive voice in a long time.

438070, Not quite appointment TV, but I laugh
Posted by Marauder21, Mon Mar-02-09 02:21 PM
I thought the Ben Frankin/Shakespeare/Galleleio dinner sketch was good
438103, yeah, that ran long, but the payoff was worth it
Posted by The Rapture7, Mon Mar-02-09 03:33 PM
438079, I definitely like the fact that he got Jon Benjamin to join
Posted by thoughtprocess, Mon Mar-02-09 02:35 PM
438116, funny stuff
Posted by Wordman, Mon Mar-02-09 04:02 PM
You want a name to sound less powerful?
Put "DJ" in front of it.
"DJ Abraham Lincoln".
Hysterical.

438119, It's even better than I expected.
Posted by Madvillain 626, Mon Mar-02-09 04:11 PM
Perfect geek/stoner humor. I'll definitely keep up with this.
438147, I had very low expectations for the show b/c he sucked on the Daily Show
Posted by zuma1986, Mon Mar-02-09 05:36 PM
but the show is actually pretty funny. I've watched the frst 2 episodes and thought it was one of the better shows that have come out on Comedy Central in the last while.
438159, wrong. The "Trendspotting" about myspace was gold
Posted by THRILLHOUSE, Mon Mar-02-09 06:02 PM
438150, It's on par with most things on Comedy Central...
Posted by simpsycho, Mon Mar-02-09 05:44 PM
I don't go out of my way to catch every episode, but I won't change the channel if it comes on.
438247, I want more Ben Franklin..and more Da Michi .....
Posted by Castro, Tue Mar-03-09 12:36 AM
438249, Wish it was more of a sit-com
Posted by SoulHonky, Tue Mar-03-09 12:44 AM
I really like his stand-up but I kind of wanted to see him branch out into something different. Try to work it into real life situations ala Seinfeld. I watched the first episode and I liked the stand-up stuff but the sketches were lousy (the Amanda Peet one was especially bad).

The show was funny but something I'm more inclined to check out on the web when I'm bored than sit down and watch at a certain time on TV.
438355, cmon
Posted by thoughtprocess, Tue Mar-03-09 12:48 PM
(the
>Amanda Peet one was especially bad).
>

that was the best one of that episode.
438382, it started out slow
Posted by The Rapture7, Tue Mar-03-09 02:02 PM
but picked up at the end...
438394, Wow. I thought that was almost painfully unfunny.
Posted by SoulHonky, Tue Mar-03-09 02:17 PM
I thought the sketches were bad but that one wasn't funny at all.
438397, The sketches are def. the weakest part of the show
Posted by thoughtprocess, Tue Mar-03-09 02:23 PM
but Demetri + Jon Benjamin + anger + breaking glass = comedy

438532, i thought it was funny too
Posted by THRILLHOUSE, Wed Mar-04-09 06:57 AM
not LMAO, tears rolling down my face funny, but it was humorous. But yeah I agree, the sketches are the weakest part.
438542, they picked it up a bit on the 3rd episode
Posted by thoughtprocess, Wed Mar-04-09 09:21 AM
which i just watched last night, so i'm still hopeful the sketches can match his stand-up and graphs and stuff
438254, it's aight...he won his way to moroccaville though.
Posted by Basaglia, Tue Mar-03-09 01:24 AM
438388, he's like Mitch Hedberg Lite
Posted by tappenzee, Tue Mar-03-09 02:12 PM
Not that that's a bad thing. He's a funny dude.
438541, RE: he's like Mitch Hedberg Lite
Posted by The Rapture7, Wed Mar-04-09 09:00 AM
definitely, with a pinch of Steven Wright and Rita Rudner, but the drawings are what set him apart
438546, yeah, he talked about steven wright
Posted by thoughtprocess, Wed Mar-04-09 09:23 AM
like he was gonna piss himself out of excitement.
438513, His drawings are the SHIT
Posted by Deebot, Wed Mar-04-09 12:14 AM
438540, my favorite parts are DEFINITELY the Data segments...
Posted by The Rapture7, Wed Mar-04-09 08:57 AM
everybody I put on to it loses it with improper fraction/really improper fraction one

438545, the thickness of neck vs. reading graph was hilarious

Posted by Dae021, Thu Mar-12-09 02:42 PM
Plus H. Jon Benjamin is in it, so you know it's golden.

The shti is funny.
440599, My favorite sketch so far

"This is not the kind of show I'd expect you to be into, OP"
