We'd have a President with bulging roid muscles and probably nipples that fire AK bullets. Iraq and Afgahnistan are both done in 10 minutes.

The lack of feet might hinder things, but it didn't stop FDR.
426014, don't forget the vacuum-packed crotch and pouches galore.

They'd gone through all 60 issues they'd gotten in and had already taken reservations on 75 copies of the 2d printing.

Hell, there was only one copy of The Amazing Spider-Girl left on the racks; I'd wager that several people had picked that up by accident.
427131, yeah, obama's not on the cover of the first print

first, it's corny as fuck. second, the art isn't really that good (sorry, but i grew up reading amazing spiderman from around issue 80 or so, and the art nowadays isn't half as good as those issues),and third, they want half a paycheck for it. i expected spiderman to say "peace, dog" before he left.

it's just another pathetic attempt to ring more money out of consumers, rather than give them a quality product with a quality storyline; but as long as people clamor for it (which they obviously already have), they'll continue it.

p.s. i'm in no way against obama being in comics. i just want it done right, and not just so we can sell out a comic book (which is the only reason they did this)
427164, if it makes you feel any better i copped watchmen, too.
Posted by now or never, Wed Jan-14-09 05:31 PM
dude at the register talked to me about it for like 10 minutes before i was like "can i get plastic for that spider-man?"

Haha how u gonna complain about Spiderman being corny?
Dude climbs walls in a costume!
427230, i didn't say spiderman was corny. not once
Posted by justin_scott, Wed Jan-14-09 10:10 PM
i said having obama in the comic, giving spiderman dap no less, is corny as shit. and it makes it ten times worse when you know that this is just to sell comic books. it's not an organic, or natural inclusion to a part of a storyline. it's just "hey, obama is popular, and his inauguration is soon. let's use that instead of making good comics to sell a title of ours."

and of course, comic book owners then make it worse by hoarding issues, and charging double on the day it comes out, etc.

427304, Agreed on the corniness and the hoarding
Posted by buckshot defunct, Thu Jan-15-09 10:06 AM
But I do think that this particular gimmick is kind of, I dunno, 'cute' at least, just based on the fact that Obama is actually a Spider-Man fan.
427370, i can't front. that is cool
Posted by justin_scott, Thu Jan-15-09 01:23 PM
but they could have done this in a much better way.

427160, look at my post above
Posted by justin_scott, Wed Jan-14-09 05:25 PM
as long as people continue to fall for this stupid bullshit, someone else will go for it too. you can't shake your head at image, and not marvel too. marvel didn't do it 'cause it was a natural part of a storyline. they did it to sell comics, in a very shitty way. image is brilliant business wise. this will sell out too. a title that probably wasn't moving to many copies will become one of image's best selling issues ever possibly. leifeld is fucking shitting his pants right now. a man who by all means should've been kicked out of the business 20 years ago, and he still gets these types of opportunities.
427175, think of it as an economic stimulus package
Posted by buckshot defunct, Wed Jan-14-09 06:03 PM

427228, ...that will continue to fuck up the industry? no, i'm not doing that
Posted by justin_scott, Wed Jan-14-09 10:01 PM
it's a shitty way to sell comic books. plain and simple.
427196, I wonder if Savage Dragon will take back his endorsement

Posted by Nukkapedia, Wed Jan-14-09 07:38 PM
427213, i guess i'm officially a comic nerd/snob at this point
Posted by bshelly, Wed Jan-14-09 08:40 PM
because i just don't get why anyone would care that obama is in a comic book, and i'm kind of mad this bullshit is distracting attention from what i think should be final crisis's moment.
427229, exactly
Posted by justin_scott, Wed Jan-14-09 10:03 PM
this is bullshit that has NOTHING to do with spiderman or a storyline in spiderman. it's just a pathetic attempt to sell comics to people who don't buy them and won't until it's mentioned on the news and they see dollar signs. and the real comic fans, young and old, who normal read the character are forced to either pay more or wait months for a copy.

and it has nothing to do with being a nerd/snob. using someone's fame, or using death (cap. amer, batman, superman, etc) is the ridiculous. but unfortunately, people follow like sheep.

427315, So Marvel is doing it on purpose, right?
Posted by El_Pistolero, Thu Jan-15-09 10:25 AM
In order to compete with *SPOILER* Batman's death.
