Surprised that Man on Wire didn't win documentary (haven't seen it but have heard it's one of the year's best films overall) and I could see it possibly losing the Oscar to a film that's "about something" like Trouble the Water.

And before people go crazy, remember that these are indie awards so The Dark Knight, Wall-E, etc. weren't up for awards.

419411, this list looks more accurate in terms of what the Academy will pick
Posted by dunk, Wed Dec-10-08 01:08 AM
I this being most correct come Oscar night.
419412, I don't know about the Happy Go Lucky love; esp. with Winslet out there
Posted by SoulHonky, Wed Dec-10-08 01:24 AM
Haven't seen it so I'm not knocking it but I can't imagine that Hollywood won't find one of their own to give those awards (actress and screenplay) to.

And with Kate Winslet having 5 nominations and no wins in her past and two buzzed about performances this year, she seems like a lock for this year's "We Owed Ya One" Oscar.
419406, why isn't their Top 10 films list called Top 10 Studio films?

426029, with the DGA, PGA, AND WGA nods....TDK is locked for best picture

for the oscars
426049, I'll bet money on TDK and Wall-E getting best picture nods.....

My Picks (not necessarily my favorites):
The Dark Knight
Wall-E
Doubt
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire?

I think Benjamin Button, Rachel Getting Married, The Wrestler, and Frost/Nixon are all going to get shut out of the Best Picture race because of TDK and Wall-E. With wins like Crash and nods like Juno, I'm assuming that the Academy wants more movies that people have seen. That would contribute to the ratings for the show more. Out of those picks, I could see Slumdog getting snubbed in favor of Benjamin Button or Rachel Getting Married simply because it may not be 'American' enough.

426186, out of your picks i think doubt and milk are the ones

on the fence. i think slumdog's an absolute lock for a best pic nomination especially after it swept at the critic's choice awards last night, and milk only being nominated for one golden globe could hurt its chances.
426194, I made that Slumdog prediction before the Critics Choice Awards....

IMO it should win the Oscar for Best Picture too. It might be a lock by now but I'm still not certain about it. Either way, a movie is going to screwed over to let TDK in the race. The only reason I can give for that is that TDK was the most enjoyable film of the year by miles. It doesn't really deserve a nod for Best Picture but I wouldn't be mad about it.
426060, What are the odds that Jeffrey Wright will get a nod?
Posted by rorschach, Thu Jan-08-09 10:53 PM
I know the Supporting Actor category has officially been renamed the Heath Ledger Award for Acting in a Supporting Role....

But didn't Jeffrey Wright carry Cadillac Records more than Ledger carried The Dark Knight? I'm not questioning which film is better--but I am saying this: Without Heath, The Dark Knight could've still been heat. But without Jeffrey Wright, I seriously don't think I would've liked Cadillac Records at all.

426196, Yeah...Cadillac Records was the biggest surprise for me....

Although I think Cadillac Records=Ray in a lot of aspects, I definitely can say I liked it. I was really skeptical about Beyonce but she was very good.

The only problem I had with the movie was that they had to leave a lot of people out of the movie--mainly the other Chess brother and all of those other great acts on the label. I understand they did it for the sake of time but I wish we could've at least saw them around in the background.
