I know Gambit is a fan favorite, but I never got the appeal? What is is about that character that have earned him such devotion and adoration?

Dude had a natural charm when he first showed up. Some said that was also part of his mutant ability but his whole concept is just ill.

he was always laying it on thick with Rogue, he had some sort of accent, and he threw cards that blew up. As a young buck, I thought dude was as cool as it got, and he ranked personally only second to Wolverine.

seriously, UXM #350 is one of my fav comics ever, but after that, his character lost all appeal to me.

Dude is now C or even D-level X-character status.

But when he first was created, he was a new character with a cool power, a cool-looking design/costume, and a "mysterious" past they could hint at but refused to reveal over the span of hundreds of issues.. It was like Chris Claremont's attempt to create another Wolverine, with ultimately less staying power.

His power, in and of itself, wasn't cool. The visuals that it lead to were. In his first appearances, he'd hold a lock pick, his eyes would shoot energy that traveled up his arm to charge it, then he'd throw it.

it was his mutant power that always drew me to him, similar to Colossus and Nightcrawler.

I mean, exploding cards? come on now. The 12 year old me loved that shit!

He had cool enough powers. The "devil eyes" and bo staff and the increased speed and agility. He's a cool guy.

And come on. Remy/Rogue is fantastic.

Even Cable was able to make a transition into the new millineum (sp). Maybe it's the jacket that restricts him.

He was one of my favorite X-Men characters back then next to Wolverine. He had the mysterious past, cool red eyes, the accent, the kinetic card power etc. He personified cool back then but now? I guess that coolness couldn't last forever...
