not that i always want a conventional trailer but this shit gave zero insight into the film.

416126, Agreed, the trailer lacked Posted by KneelB4Me, Sat Nov-22-08 01:12 PM
I just want to see it based on what it appears to be about.
Incidentally, anyone know of any black erotic films that are GOOD? Like "Trois" wanted to be, but done better?

420043, I guess I'll start.... Posted by latchkeykid, Thu Dec-11-08 09:56 PM
It was ooooooookay. Well I don't know, I want to say I really liked it, I just think the dialogue was pretty corny, but it was a nice little idea with the whole peaks into black love/sex. The best stories to me were from the last half on. I coulda done without the "finger" vignette and the arty Soderbergh camera work...I seriously felt nauseous after a while. They actually filmed some of it right down the street from my house so that was cool and it was just nice to see real black folk on screen, so yeah, go see it :)

434464, I liked it for the most part Posted by ZooTown74, Mon Feb-16-09 08:30 PM
I thought the stylized nature of each of the vignettes was cool, from the Charles Burnett-esque "Tonight" segments to the funny homage to Asian porn in the last vignette... that said, I really didn't like the Tonight story, or maybe I just didn't get it... the tone of it kept shifting, and I'm not sure what message I was supposed to take away from it...
I did like the first two vignettes, also could have done without the finger vignette (even though baby doll was off-the-chain gorgeous), and was amused with the final vignette even though it seemed like the writer-director had written himself into a corner and didn't quite know how to get out of it... regardless, it was a very enjoyable flick and tells me to expect bigger and better things ahead for Dennis Dortch (the writer-director)... ________________________________________________________________________ Yeah, THAT'S what it is.

439767, ^^^^ Posted by dunk, Mon Mar-09-09 02:10 AM
i came away from it feeling the same way.
I'm not sure how I feel about the Tonight segments either. It felt like there should have been a third part to it.
BIG CO-SIGN on the girl with the afro. i was sorta mad that she didn't have a longer part, even tho that segment was the weakest link of them all.

439807, Trailer doesn't do it for me. Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Mon Mar-09-09 10:31 AM
Will have to wait to hear more about it.

439970, I copped the bootleg Saturday at the barber shop Posted by who u think you is Ron Oneal, Mon Mar-09-09 08:50 PM
It was really good. I didn't get the tonight scene but, overall it was good. Just like I like my movies funny, fucked up and thought provoking all at the same time.
|
440071, about the tonight scene... Posted by thegodcam, Tue Mar-10-09 10:11 AM
my understanding is she lost her virginity that night... perhaps an account on how many of our sisters start their sexual life which explains how many end up constantly not makin the greatest decisions when it comes to their sex life... which ultimately leads them to single motherhood, cycles of bad relationships, etc....

440111, All I know is what we saw (SPOILERS) Posted by ZooTown74, Tue Mar-10-09 01:07 PM
Her guy friend tried to force himself on her, she ditched him, got with her girl, who apparently had an older brother whom the girl had known for a long time... he made some flirty comments about her being all grown up, they looked at each other, she sang to him, they all went and saw some fireworks, then she crept into the living room where he hit it that night.
I considered all of what you're talking about. And I'm all for filling in the blanks and all, but not only is what we saw not very much to draw such conclusions from, but this read on it makes the tone of this segment jarringly out-of-step and darker than the lighthearted tone of the rest of the film... ________________________________________________________________________ Steffy says if you don't like the post, the Back button is that way...

440336, RE: A Good Day To Be Black And Sexy Posted by Pamalama, Wed Mar-11-09 01:03 PM
My husband picked this up on Saturday. I expected something different just by the cover...like what kinda porno shit is this? Then the opening credits was like okay, can we move on? But I was surprised I didn't fall asleep on it. I've known couples like the people depicted, so I could relate to all of the stories.
'Tonight' kinda pissed me off because of the 'fast-assed girl' vibe I felt was being given. And if my mother/grandmother/aunt saw my brother laying on the couch with some girl, some ass would've been kicked...I don't care how old he was.
I think it was a good mix of humor (Reciprocity, Reprise and American Boyfriend) and melodrama (Her Man and Tonight). I liked American Boyfriend the best.
