He started making self-indulgent stuff like Waterworld and The Postman and even now when he talks about stuff like Mr. Brooks, he acts like he's reinventing the wheel.

That basically killed him because his public persona became of a guy who was full of himself but his films roles are usually a guy who's an underdog.

I was hoping for a comeback because I liked his run in the late 80's/early 90's but then I saw a couple recent interviews and just said fuck it, let someone else get their shot.
