399313, 80s movies you once thought were fun, but are now dead to you
Posted by DrNO, Wed Sep-03-08 11:45 PM
killed dead by relentless witless nostalgia.

List on!
399315, I've heard that Neverending Story is AWFUL if you watch it now.
Posted by Ryan M, Wed Sep-03-08 11:49 PM
And for that reason, I don't think I'll ever see it again.
399319, That would be a good side post
Posted by Wrongthink, Thu Sep-04-08 12:36 AM
Movies you refuse to watch again because deep down you think they're not as you remember them. (Often because you watched them when you were a teen, and you've grown out of being an idiot.)

399403, I AGREE.
Posted by xbenzive, Thu Sep-04-08 01:49 PM
You won't see the appeal to Neverending Story if you watch it for the first time in...decades.

399411, I absolutely refuse to believe this.*

That movie is just so perfect in my mind. Falkor the luckdragon not only looks real, but he IS real, and is a close personal friend of mine.

* But I'll try and avoid ever re-watching it just in case.
399341, Beat Street.

aside from the battle scenes, it's pretty lame. The acting is AWFUL.

399415, wild style was the superior movie
Posted by stankpalmer, Thu Sep-04-08 02:20 PM
399624, Just watched it last night. There's *barely* a story.
Posted by bignick, Fri Sep-05-08 12:02 PM
399669, I think *barely* is being generous.
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Sep-05-08 01:57 PM
399701, I think *story* is being generous.

399893, lol yeah.
Posted by stankpalmer, Sun Sep-07-08 01:13 PM
wild style didn't try too hard though. ahearn knew he was dealing with inexperienced actors but chose them for the legitimacy of the film. yeah there was a shitty plot, but at least for what he was trying to accomplish, i thought the film worked.

399432, agreed
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Thu Sep-04-08 03:25 PM

that movie is actually an abomination
to graf and hip hop
399671, The Treacherous Three/Doug E. Fresh scene is still cool
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Sep-05-08 02:00 PM
And some of the performances are okay. But the acting/story is ass-awful.
399397, Adventures in Babysitting
Posted by dj_variable, Thu Sep-04-08 01:30 PM
That movie almost seems offensive now.
399412, ^had to sing to blues before he could leave

399497, so true. I netflixed it off pure nostalgia
Posted by will_5198, Thu Sep-04-08 07:23 PM
and could barely stomach finishing it
399409, Fucking Goonies
Posted by buckshot defunct, Thu Sep-04-08 01:56 PM
I just thought it was a sort of okay run of the mill 80s movie, and it wasn't until much later in life that I realized it was such a nostalgic cultural touchstone for people.

Like, I get the hype for Karate Kid. As soon as the credits started rolling I was up on the coffee table practicing my crane kicks to the soothing sounds of Survivor. It was no surprise to me that 20 years later people were still riding for it.

I don't think Goonies has earned its cult status.
399422, I said that on the boards, and they called the cops...

to be fair, I'm older than a lot of you guys, so I was in my Teens when it came out, so I'm probably on some "Fuck this kid shit". But naah. I don't get how all the 80's Babies act like it's their version of "American Graffiti". But yeah, ya'll can HAVE "The Goonies".

>
>I don't think Goonies has earned its cult status.

I'll just chalk it up to "I don't get it".

399426, Well I was the exact right age for it and it was still pretty 'meh'
Posted by buckshot defunct, Thu Sep-04-08 03:00 PM
And you know how when you're a kid you can watch a movie over and over ad nauseum... I mean I had Neverending Story, Cloak and Dagger, Karate Kid... all them shits on VHS's that I just played and played until they turned to dust. Truth be told a movie didn't have to be all *that* good for me to put it on Repeat status. It just had to be halfway entertaining, really.

I watched Goonies ONCE.
399484, We're right >< here
Posted by JungleSouljah, Thu Sep-04-08 06:24 PM
I remember loving Goonies when I was younger. I loved Chunk, I loved the dude with the face who's name I forget.

But I tried re-watching it 5 or 6 years ago? Nope. Not happening. Aside from a few moments it just doesn't do much for me. There are much better nostalgic 80s films.
399488, monster squad was far better than goonies...
Posted by , Thu Sep-04-08 06:56 PM
i forced myself to watch goonies like last year because of it's cult status.

shit was very uninteresting.
399496, CoSign on Monster Squad!!!!

399812, these are awful people
Posted by cereffusion, Sat Sep-06-08 02:01 PM
im taking down names.
399526, Goonies sucks balls
Posted by Poisonous Dart, Thu Sep-04-08 10:26 PM
As a kid I told my friends that I hated "The Goonies" and they were mad at me. Now, they're all like "Damn, The Goonies DID suck!".

One.
399602, god bless you, sir -- keep fighting the good fight, totally agree

399489, I no longer feel Critters is indisputably the best movie ever made
Posted by stylez dainty, Thu Sep-04-08 06:56 PM
Third place, tops.
399504, *hands you a late pass because Critters 3 came out like 18 years ago*

399591, Caddyshack!
Posted by Jakob Hellberg, Fri Sep-05-08 09:21 AM
I thought it was hilarious as a kid but nowadays, the only thing I find funny is the Chevy Chase-scene where he throws the drink over his shoulder (BTW, I think Chevy is underrated as fuck as a comedian), the rest is borderline unwatchable...

EDIT:I don't know if people are nostalgic over that movie though...
399670, Fuck that. I watched it a few weeks ago and it was still funny
Posted by mrhood75, Fri Sep-05-08 01:58 PM
399674, Damn.
Posted by Jeremiah Mercer, Fri Sep-05-08 02:25 PM
I feel bad for people who don't still find that movie hilarious. One of the funniest comedies of all time.
399734, well, the world needs ditch diggers too
Posted by DrNO, Fri Sep-05-08 07:57 PM
399650, Anyone watched Three Amigos lately?
Posted by KangolLove, Fri Sep-05-08 01:32 PM
How terrible is it?

I don't think I've watched it since elementary school. We all loved it then, being the target age & all.
399659, I saw it for the first time a few years ago
Posted by coin., Fri Sep-05-08 01:41 PM
and thought it was pretty funny. Wasn't interested in it at all when it first came out, either.
399666, still holds up for me

Posted by mrhood75, Sat Sep-06-08 01:38 PM
Like, so much so I had to leave.

I watched it on TV like 10 years later, and was thoroughly disgusted on how fucking bad it was.
399894, Yeah, but Krull was awful the first time around
