this looked dumb to me from the beginning but maybe it's legit

any other movies coming out this weekend worth seeing? probably gonna pass on X-Files. american teen has gotten some good press but i'm skeptical

I have no other plans this weekend than to laugh uproariously!

389489, So what are you going to watch?
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Jul-24-08 06:22 PM
Jokes.
389597, Many seem to doubt it but its a very funny movie
Posted by dunk, Fri Jul-25-08 02:10 AM
if you're a fan of either you'll agree this is them at their comedic best in a while. I haven't really been up to any Will Ferrell comedy since his Blades and Semi-Pro weren't good imo.

This surprised the hell out of me since it was funny throughout not solely cause of the Will & Jonh C. but the supporting cast is hilarious esp. the brother of John C. & the guy from The Daily Show (can't remember his name).

I came in not knowing shit about the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. The trailers don't do it justice cause its a really "R" type of comedy so i'm not surprised about the skepticism but its a great.

gonna watch it Sunday.

it was good. did not blow me away, but had its very funny moments. i didn't really know what to expect cause i hated semi-pro, but this was 10 times better. Reily and Ferrel are great together and the supporting cast helps out a lot with the laughs.

seeing this saturday night. kind of excited now after hearing mostly positive things. www.funnyordie.com has hilarious deleted scenes/outtakes too
389722, I saw a screening last week and I thougth it was very good
Posted by J_Sun, Fri Jul-25-08 03:05 PM
Ferrell and Reily work very well together. They're essentially playing the same character, but it still works very well IMO. The trailers don't do it justice tho cuz it's too R rated to include the really funny stuff. If you like Will Ferrell you should like this movie.

389814, i was thoroughly uninterested until i saw the first trailer

john: "what are yuo doing?"

will: "i'm burying you."

john: "but i'm still alive."

will: "shut up, you're waking the neighbors."

john: "my dads gonna wonder where i'm at"

will: "he'll neeever know your gone."

after seeing that scene, coupled with the interiew scene...

"you're calling me stupid, yet you're the ones dressed in a tuxedo interviewing for a job that requires that yuo scrub toilets."

i dunno.. that shit just made thi s a must see for me. and thus far, will is a no go for me outside of anchor man and old school, as well as his cameo on wedding crashers.
389911, i can't not laugh at the burying scene.

Pass on x-files?!?? Are you serious? One of the hottest shows in the mid late 90's turned movie?...you gotta go see that even if its ass its history. Plus you gotta support a struggling actor. I haven't seen mulder or scully in anything serious.

p.s Talladega Nights, Blades of Glory, Ricky Bobby....all essentially the same movie. So if ya seen one ya seen em all.

Sometimes its better to listen.

It's slight and not so quotable but it is funny.

Adam Scott steals his scenes. Funny as hell. That family sing along is priceless.
389978, there were a couple quotables, but not a ton

390217, RE: there were a couple quotables, but not a ton
Posted by josephmurf2384, Mon Jul-28-08 08:46 AM
The entire movie was quotable.

"I travelled 500 miles to give you my seed"

"You knows this is fucked up right?"

"Yeah"

"But Brennan can sure rock the fuck out of that pirate hat"

and many more, this movie was excellent, i laughed through 90% and cried from laughter three times at least.
391601, I found the family sing along hilarious too

Yeah, I work at a movie theatre. And every now and then when I get time, I catch sneak peeks at the movies while at work. God knows I don't feel like staying after work.

But from what I've seen of Step Brothers, it is hilarious. It's got some crude humor, but it's overall funny. I do wish to see it on one of my days off.

390160, Funny, definitely a step up from Blades and Semi-Pro.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Jul-28-08 12:04 AM
However, it's probably the weakest Ferrell/McKay flick. The grossout gags weren't nearly as funny as the childishness and the fantasies at the end. Still, I laughed consistently.

But still, not as inventive as Talladega Nights. It's true, the cast did keep the movie going pretty well since Ferrell and Reilly are the same character for most of the movie. Ferrells brother is expecially funny since I know overbearing tools that act like him. I'd say the last 1/4 of it is the best.

I thought the sleep walking would be suspect when it first started, but that shit got ridicuolous. The 2nd one when he is pounding on him with the hulk hands, classic.
390896, i butchered this quote btw. it's:

390954, it was cool.
Posted by xbenzive, Wed Jul-30-08 11:51 AM
It was a couple of steps down to Anchorman/Talladega Nights but many steps up from Blades of Glory/Semi-Pro, either way it was hilarious.

Much more physical comedy in a Ferrell/McKay movie.

It seem like the first 2/3 was improvised and the last 1/3 was better.

the support cast was great.

it's also alot more crude with the language...

overall.

not bad.

not too many quotable but that's cool, the scene after the credits was a good payoff.

391029, don't get me wrong.
Posted by xbenzive, Wed Jul-30-08 04:23 PM
I'm just comparing Will Ferrell movies. I think everything he's done has been good for comedy, even Kicking & Screaming and his roll in Bewitch. No doubt Blades of Glory had its moments, but I think Step Brothers has quotable but not AS much as his previous movies with McKay.

some shit was comedy. some shit made me laugh, i laughed hysterically maybe once.

but

where the fuck was the plot? who wrote this?

interesting premise, very uneven execution of that premise. the brother- the guy everyone seemed to think stole the show- generated a few slight chuckles.

i laughed abit

but all in all it was one long reminder of why i never watch will ferrel movies.
