from the trailer to the soundtrack...i'm more excited about this than ANYTHING on the horizon

the first one actually looked and felt like a note-perfect recreation of blaxploitation... this one strikes me a bit like like an overlong Wayans Brothers sketch.

but I'll tell you this much...

that most small genre (i,e how high, the Best man, etc)films with not big names cost about 8-12 million to make mil to make

1. it wasn't made for 8-12 million dollars.

2. that's a good deal coming off sundance. how quick it was snapped up and how much they put into it shows confidence in the picture.

Some of the jokes were obvious and went on a bit too long, but it was still very funny... if you loved or even liked blaxploitation flicks (let's just say that it helps), you'll dig this... it's a very affectionate spoof... Michael Jai White owned the screen, and had some help from cats like Tommy Davidson (!), Cedric Yarbrough and Arseniooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Hall (!!)... (Bokeem Woodbine was barely in the movie)... they nailed all of the things that we love about blaxploitation flicks (down to the shitty production values and bad dialogue), and added a bit of a tribute to Enter the Dragon and other kung fu flicks as well...

There were some issues, however... the women in the film got short shrift as far as the action was concerned (particularly Salli Richardson-Whitfield with her fine ass)... the pacing of the film was off a little (even at an approximate running time of 85 minutes)... but overall, it had a lot of funny moments... and while I appreciated the fact that they nailed a lot of the blaxploitation conventions, it didn't necessarily make for fresh material... and some of the jokes were of the eye-rolling, wow-that-was-too-obvious variety (I believe they're going to have to cut a short running joke about an L.A. staple... while it was funny, I don't believe it's going to play across America)...

But still, overall, this is some good, funny shit.

that LA staple joke played pretty well in NYC last night.

And even though parts of it dragged my boy and I were rolling loud and hard when people were silent.

Maybe I'll catch it in theatres.

HOURS when the whole movie is only like what 85mins
however this is still one of my favorite movies ever made
just the way they totally nailed making a 70s flick
the music is insane
i have a feeling this is going to go over a lot of peoples' heads though

The island part did drag although it had one of the most hilarious lines in the whole movie. ("Haha! I thew that shit from the other ROOOM!")

And the final battle was very anti-climactic, I thought. That whole shit just seemed to drag on for a long time.

Its by far one of the funniest movies in the past 2-3 years.
