show me one top reviewer at rotten tomatoes that called it a masterpiece.

that's some funny shit right there.

when a movie loses 66% of it's business after an awful opening week (considering how much was spent on hyping the film), you're the only person across the u.s. that's calling "the happening" a masterpiece.

in comparison, the god awful 2007 masterpiece (by your standards) "norbit" grossed $35M it's opening weekend ($5M more than "the happening") and fell off less than 50% it's second week. it grossed $95M in theaters... and is widely thought of as eddie murphy's worst film... his performance in "norbit" costing him the only shot he'll ever have at an oscar.

2007 nominated raspberry for worst picture -- norbit.
2008 (soon to be nominated) raspberry for worst picture -- the happening.

lastly, i found it funny that eddie murphy not only one a razzie for "norbit" for worst actor, but he also won worst supporting actor and worst supporting actress.

m. night will surely win for worst screenplay and worst director.

then again, he'll be up against eddie again in "meet dave," so brian robbins will probably win worst director by default. maybe he'll be kind enough to share the award with your buddy.
