377290, The best written TV show still on now? Posted by JayBilal, Sat Jun-07-08 11:33 PM
The reason I'm making this post is because I will soon be saying goodbye to another show that I have fallen in love with for the second time in like 3 months. Clown me if you want but unfortunately "Avatar" will be gone for good in another month or two and of course we just lost "The Wire" (believe me I'm aware and a little ashamed about the vast difference between a true to life inner-city drama and a cartoon based in a mythical land).
Is there another show that has great characters who you are not flat but dynamic and grow over the course of the series? I'm eliminating sitcoms from this as I'd like to get hooked on a drama that isn't too full of itself and doesn't mind throwing in a laugh or two. I really thought that next show I would love would be "Studio 60" but apparently I was one of the dew that really liked that show. By the way is Aaron Sorkin writing anything for TV that will be airing soon?

377522, Can we add Breaking Bad to that list also? Posted by JungleSouljah, Mon Jun-09-08 10:47 AM
I'd say the tag team is by far better than most everything on TV.
I have no idea when Big Love is coming back but I'd add that to the pile also.
To be fair I'm sure there's some good stuff on Showtime, but I don't get it.

I like Breaking Bad a lot.
>I have no idea when Big Love is coming back but I'd add that >to the pile also.
Yep, that's another one on my list. Last I heard, Big Love is coming back in January. It got pushed back big time by the writers' strike. :-(

if you're gonna watch tho, watch from season one on, it'll be easier to follow that way.

377419, Lost Posted by atldan, Sun Jun-08-08 09:32 PM
Even though people I know think some of the lines come off as corny or cheesy. I think the writing on there is pretty good.
Don't really watch many other shows on a regular basis.
|
377423, Then how do you know Lost is the best writing on TV? Posted by bignick, Sun Jun-08-08 10:08 PM

377526, outside of the early season missteps, Friday Night Lights Posted by MadDagoNH, Mon Jun-09-08 10:55 AM
And even though I was pissed with how season two started, I actually think they did a decent job of wrapping the Landry storyline up without killing the show, which I thought may happen.

Even thought the concept of Season 2's Landry storyline was pretty awful, the way they wrote the Landry and Tara characters going through the (implausable) plot was incredible. The characters are so nuanced, I love the show and could care less about football.
|
378046, I'm only a few episodes in Posted by DrNO, Wed Jun-11-08 04:55 PM
but I actually think the Landry plot is the best thing it has going at this point. It's out there but it's being handled really well. The Mexican surgery, Matt and the nurse and Julie's constant whining are all a little too soap opera for my tastes.
The characters are still strong of course. I could use more football too.
|
378152, I could believe the Mexican surgery thing pretty easily, actually Posted by MadDagoNH, Thu Jun-12-08 08:17 AM
Street's still a kid, and he's desperate so he's gonna buy into some stupid shit like that, no matter how unrealistic it could really be. I can see a kid like that being gung ho for such a stupid idea.
(I gotta finish up season one again and get back into season 2...I haven't wathced it enough yet. Only the once, basically.).

378430, Where were their parents Posted by Nikki Nicole, Fri Jun-13-08 08:32 AM
Thats the only thing I kept wondering about while they were in Mexico. Not one phone call, search party for Lyla or Jason, whose parents I would think would be worried about their crippled son going missing. And when they got back, the only one who was missed was Riggins, and that was cause he missed football practice.

377566, Death Note... Posted by rorschach, Mon Jun-09-08 12:40 PM
and I'm going to catch up on Mad Men and Breaking Bad over the summer since everyone keeps talking about them.
I wanted to say The Shield but I think its best quality is the acting moreso than the writing. --------------------------------------- The OKP® King of the Late Pass™

378521, Another co-sign on Death Note... Posted by Ausar72, Fri Jun-13-08 03:59 PM
But you gotta go back to the beginning and watch the very first episode. The whole season (37 eps.) is long form drama/suspense/mild horror.
Highly recommend this show.
Oh yeah, it's a Anime that is showing on Adult Swim late at night.
Good Stuff.
...
my thoughts,
peace.

Nah, thing is, I don't watch any of the shows most people talk about being great these days.
Is Battlestar Galactica a wrap yet? I know it's ending soon. Figured someone would mention that.
...but House is good.
