361912, Dimension Films is remaking ''Short Circuit''

April 4, 2008

Dimension Films has acquired rights to remake the 1986 film, "Short Circuit," reports Variety.

The original introduced Number 5, a robot built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon. It developed a conscience and a personality after being hit by lightning, and then needed the help of humans after it was targeted for destruction by its makers, once it became a peacenik.

S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both "Short Circuit" films, have been hired to write the remake.

David Foster and Ryan E. Heppe will produce with John Hyde.

What have they been waiting for?
361917, why not, right?

All I'm wondering is, where are the remakes to these:

Goonies
Flight of the Navigator
Explorer
Legend
Labyrinth
The Breakfast Club
Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Airplane
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Bugsy Malone

Hollywood really needs to pick up the pace a little if they're going to totally ruin all my childhood movie memories before I turn 30.

(The sad thing is, I bet at least half of the movies I listed probably are in talks for remakes)
361921, "Bumped" is the Breakfast Club "remake"
Posted by SoulHonky, Fri Apr-04-08 06:59 AM
"Veteran producer Bridget Johnson will produce "Bumped," a modern-day version of "The Breakfast Club," with McG protege Anna Mastro attached to direct from a script by Lizzy Weiss.

"Bumped" is a comedy-drama revolving around five twentysomethings -- including a corporate go-getter, a musician and a flirt -- who normally wouldn't be friends but who get to know one another when they're bumped from a flight and wind up stranded at Chicago's O'Hare Airport."
----
As for some of the others,

Soul Plane was basically the Airplane "remake" although I wouldn't be stunned if the Epic Movie guys tried to do it. They are making a spoof of Superbad so why not Airplane?

Goonies - They were talking about making a musical of it. Not sure what happened with that. It might have been an April Fools joke for all I know.

Flight of the Navigator isn't up yet but The Last Starfighter is.

361968, McG has a protege?

This is 100% bullshit...they need to leave the '80s alone.

Next, they'll remake Wall Street or something.
