Posted by m, Sun Mar-23-08 03:24 PM
it's meant to be watched on a screen that you have to use a magnifying glass for.

360048, Can we discuss Drunken Angel?
Posted by Anfernee, Wed Mar-26-08 07:10 PM
I love that shit.

Mifune was so gangster in that film.
360061, Has Mifune ever not been gangster?
Posted by SepiaSylph, Wed Mar-26-08 07:34 PM
He is high on my list of actors.
360077, True, true.
Posted by Anfernee, Wed Mar-26-08 08:23 PM
But I felt him bringing the ruckus on the doctor that just treated him was extra gangsta.

Mifune will always be that dude.

Another one with Mifune...I haven't been able to find it either.
360321, Red Beard, anyone?
Posted by SepiaSylph, Thu Mar-27-08 04:58 PM
That scene where the women are yelling down the well was really beautiful to me.

And I love how adorably grumpy Mifune is.

Probably my favorite Kurosawa movie, depending on what mood I'm in--it alternates with Ikiru.

Seven Samurai is the most enjoyable film and most perfect film I've ever watched.

Mifune is the most watchable actor I've ever watched. Every time I watch a Mifune flick (especially Yojimbo and Sanjuro - da-da) I walk around like Mifune (complete with hunched-back) for a good couple of hours, looking to out-macho every cunt I meet.

Ikiru is beautiful but very slow moving. Bad starting place for a Kurosawa newcomer. Ran is an amazing looking film, just without the heart of Seven Samurai. Yojimbo and Sanjuro are the best places to start a Kurosawa binge. It's impossible to not enjoy those wild-ass flicks.

Sanjuro has THE GREATEST BATTLE ENDING OF ALL TIME. That shit had me pumped for days after I saw it. Fuck, the battle ending in Yojimbo was great enough...then I saw Sanjuro. Wow.
360394, I imitate Mifune too
Posted by SepiaSylph, Thu Mar-27-08 10:15 PM
Only I do the scowl and certain ticks he did whichever movie, like in Rashomon or Sanjuro (remember when he kept trying to sleep? lol)

And yeah, that ending battle get you pumped!
360431, What should I check out from Kurosawa that I haven't seen?
Posted by Marauder21, Fri Mar-28-08 08:41 AM
I've seen

Rashomon
Throne of Blood
Yojimbo
Seven Samurai

How is Dreams? I've been meaning to check for that one day.
360560, Rashomon, Sanjuro, Red Beard, Kagemusha, Throne of Blood
Posted by SepiaSylph, Fri Mar-28-08 07:54 PM
I highly recommend these five first.
360562, Ran

360588, I just watched Seven Samurai....
Posted by PRYM8, Sat Mar-29-08 03:20 AM
... for the first time and OMFG. I loved this film! I had no idea the shit was 3 and a half hours, but it didn't seem like it at all. I will definitely be looking out for more from this director.
