348559, M. Night Shyamalan's THE HAPPENING (TRAILER) Posted by xbenzive, Wed Feb-06-08 12:29 PM
Dude lost again?
You be the judge.
I think it's a mixture of Suicide Circle meets Stephen King's The Cell.

Since his last film, which was O.K. I would think people have no interest in him. So when I was questioning the audience, do you think he lost again? (mainstream wise) by looking at the trailer. I apologize if I'm not clear.

Scared? Shit I wanna be scared again & hope he does return to hitsville since he's been on that nyetsville hiatus for way too long now. I dug 6th sense & Unbreakable had its moments as well till the end. But ever since Signs I aint been checkin for him. Zooey is the only reason I "might" now

Meh. Odds are it'll be better than Lady in the Water but theres nothing about this that looks too interesting.

348670, If it wasn't for Lady in the Water/The Village, you'd ALL wanna see this. Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Feb-06-08 05:19 PM
Interesting cast, good premise... plus there's no way you can deny dude's directorial prowess. If the script's on point, this could be a huge hit.

348684, Yes, if one-third of his total output didn't SUCK, I'd be excited Posted by mrhood75, Wed Feb-06-08 06:14 PM
Would you actually be excited about a new film by a director where at least 33% of his output is lousy? And as for the rest of his movies, the only one I really 100% liked was "Unbreakable." I've never loved "Sixth Sense," and though I didn't hate "Signs," it certainly isn't a clear "W" for M. Night.
So until people I trust say this is a good movie, I'm passing it by like um the Pharcyde.

>Interesting cast, good premise...
Interesting cast, but not a must-watch cast.
What, exactly, is the premise? Honest question. I've forgotten since this was first announced, and the trailer doesn't give away a whole lot. People suddenly killing themselves is interesting, I suppose. But I thought it was some sort of environmental thing.
plus there's no way you can >deny dude's directorial prowess.
No doubt. But not subscribing to the auteur theory, directorial prowess is not the highest thing on my list.
If the script's on point, >this could be a huge hit.
That's one big giant "if", though.

Better than everything post-Unbreakable.
That being said, I love his trailers. You never really know the whole plot from just the trailer. He gives just enough to pique your interest. --------------------------------------- The OKP® King of the Late Pass™

"We've Sensed it. We've seen the Signs. An Unbreakable circle of terror. It takes more than a Village by storm. The Lady In The Water is going to . . . actually, just forget about that one."
Movie looks interesting, though.

348876, There is really only one appropiate response to a movie trailer Posted by Buddy_Gilapagos, Thu Feb-07-08 02:08 PM
Either you want to see the film or you don't.
I think it would be way premature to say that a movie will be good or bad based on a trailer. ********** My new favorite photographer http://cwhateyec.com/ Every man must know Teedra http://www.myspace.com/teedramoses

348900, overly simplistic. Posted by REDeye, Thu Feb-07-08 03:55 PM
The mind goes through way more than that.
>Either you want to see the film or you don't.
But *WHY* do you want to see it or not? > >I think it would be way premature to say that a movie will be >good or bad based on a trailer.
It's certainly premature to say definitively. But you automatically make a judgment on whether you think you will like or not. And you determine, consciously or subconsciously, whether you will like it in spite of it being bad, or you think it might be good but you don't want to see it. Or you are in the mood for a crappy movie. Or I wouldn't want to see it if dude's name wasn't on it. Or on and on.
But it's certainly not as simple as you want to see it or you don't.
