His bootleg facial hair was spot-on "Suburban Drug Dealer" though, you gotta admit; role-preparation is half the battle!

Where's that G.I. Joe movie at?
338253, No joke I didnt realize that was him till about 40 minutes in

338256, That movie is terrible with or without him

I think the kid can act... I liked Alpha Dog so after I watched it I "researched" it and from what I could tell he played the character dead-on. He wasn't a badass he was a poser.

I don't know what he's doing in 08 but this kid rose on my list. I think he's one of the best young actors out nowadays.
338246, I've always been impressed with both of em. I loved Into the Wild.
Posted by jigga, Thu Dec-20-07 11:00 AM
Gotta give Sean Penn a little credit behind the lens on that one as well tho.
338278, I like Emile, but come on. Indy Jones?
Posted by REDeye, Thu Dec-20-07 12:54 PM
Maybe there's room for both, but Indiana Jones 4 is that juggernaut, bitch! (c) Juggernaut

338285, I just don't see it with Hirsch
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Dec-20-07 01:12 PM
There's something unlikable about him. Honestly, I'm not sure if the real elite level actor of that generation has really emerged yet.
338315, Is Gosling their generation?
Posted by JungleSouljah, Thu Dec-20-07 04:02 PM
Or are we saying no because he's 10 years older.

Shia is certainly more likeable, but he seems to play just about every character the same.
338316, They might as well just bill him as Louis Stevens

338319, RE: Is Gosling their generation?
Posted by Auk_The_Blind, Thu Dec-20-07 04:12 PM
I'd say he's their generation. According to wikipedia, it's only a five-year gap between him and Hirsch, and they're both from the 80's.

Gosling also takes the cake over both of 'em. He's eating it with two fists while The Beef sits in a corner shootin' smack because people can't see past the Shade of Disney.
338322, I think Shia will do alright for himself
Posted by JungleSouljah, Thu Dec-20-07 04:17 PM
He has the charisma to go far in the industry. I think he'll sort of be like Tom Hanks in the 80s. I'm not saying he's going to bloom into the actor that Hanks is now, but he'll be the likeable every man actor.
338330, That era Hanks was a lot goofier though
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu Dec-20-07 04:54 PM
I can't see Shia pulling off "Big". I can't even see him pulling off Hanks's SNL skits like "Hey you're Tony Randall!" (Mr. No Short Term Memory Man).

It's almost like he's stuck between Hanks and Clooney.
338351, Shia was goofy as fuck in Bobby though

He certainly has that prick persona look but he still ends up owning most of his scenes. He shows a lot of range with Into the Wild as well.

Can't wait for MILK
370691, *cough*
Posted by ZooTown74, Sun May-11-08 01:18 PM
He was a revelation in Into the Wild, and should be good in Milk

So, basing this solely and unfairly on the box office returns for Speed Racer, I just don't know if the summer blockbuster is the right look for him at this time

I'd bet on him winning an Oscar before Shia, but I'd bet on Shia to pack the houses more any day of the week. He just is a more likable everyman kinda guy.
370698, Yeah, I see Emile being comfortable playing the gay brother in

Philip Seymour Hoffman indie joints

Shia is that big box office dude, and will continue to be as long as he chooses to keep going that route

There's virtually no way it won't drop 50% next weekend with the Narnia movie coming out, so it's gonna end up losing a good deal of money.

With Eagle Eye coming out this year Shia will be pushed up to a slightly higher level, it should help him shed that quirky image a bit. Joseph Gordon-Levitt isn't getting the respect he deserves, he's scary good in Killshot, I saw that at an advanced screening and he was solid in The Lookout although overall it wasn't a great film. Not sure why you think Hirsch is owning anything this year, I'm pretty sure he only has one other film coming out in the near future other than Speed Racer at the moment. Can we throw Ben Foster in there? He's an 80s baby and I really think he has the potential to blow up. He's very solid in the supporting roles he's been given in the last few years and he'll have his shot in a starring role in The Messenger. Gosling is sick though, look for All Good Things coming soon, when he chooses the right roles he can be performing at A+ status.
371076, Emile tires of Shia's shadow; fires his agent

Emile's copping pleas for why he can't match up to God Bless the Beef.

I liked this line: "Look, UTA helped make Hirsch one of the best-known young leading men of his generation in films like Into the Wild (for which he was nominated for several awards), Alpha Dog, and Lords Of Dogtown, The Girl Next Door."

Hirsch did a great job in Into the Wild but let's not go bragging about starring in a bunch of bombs like the other three.
371079, Good move, dont let the man hold u back
Posted by Ceej, Mon May-12-08 06:45 PM
Plus he wont jeopardize his intergity by gettin a staged dui to boost his street cred. I mean could Shia have been any less believable in Disturbia??
371082, did you know: He's 4 feet tall and 75 pounds
Posted by DrNO, Mon May-12-08 06:48 PM
he looked really lonely at the party I saw him at too.
On the other hand I've heard Shia has banged just about every female star of his generation already. So he's probably got a crippling VD that could give Emile a shot.
