327591, Beowulf?
Posted by Crucian1, Thu Nov-01-07 01:10 PM
So let me get this straight Angelina, you won't do another Tomb Raider but you'll make this crap? Ugh.

The only saving grace is that the trailer for Wanted looks dope.

327602, so this whole fuckin movie is CGI?
Posted by Deebot, Thu Nov-01-07 01:56 PM
327620, yeah
Posted by Starbaby Jones, Thu Nov-01-07 02:32 PM
it's from the same guy who did Polar Express. So they're using a similar technology.
327690, Have you seen 3D lately?
Posted by noahbird, Thu Nov-01-07 05:01 PM
It's nothing like the crap that came out in the 80's. In fact, it's freakin' amazing. I saw Polar Express in 3D. The movie itself was 'eh', but it 3D it was amazing. I now go see pretty much any movie that comes out in 3D (Monster House, Meet the Robinsons). When it's used to enhance the movie and not just as a gimmick it's incredible.

I'll definitely be seeing Beowolf!

327693, In a way, it's better they're going all cgi with this
Posted by Starbaby Jones, Thu Nov-01-07 05:08 PM
rather than trying to superimpose cgi against live-action in an unbelievable way. At least this way, you don't lose consistency with the aesthetic.
327700, Still, doesn't it seem like a step back from 300?

327702, wait, Beowulf is in 3D?!?!
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Thu Nov-01-07 05:38 PM
I was wondering why they were doing that weird CG stuff.

327728, Yeah, that shit is great now
Posted by God Loves Ugly, Thu Nov-01-07 07:07 PM
Easy on the eyes too.

Monster House was a completely different movie with it.
327677, i'm still seeing it
Posted by SammyJankis, Thu Nov-01-07 04:27 PM
i loved the story of beowulf in high school

so is angelina supposed to be grendel?
327683, she's grendel's mother.

And I am pretty sure w/o the 3D the movie would just be ....eh
333891, agreed...amazing.

330522, my friend was an assistant producer on this (1 of like 40 lol)

Even he relayed to me that it's kind of lackluster, to put it mildly.
330528, im not expecting the movie to be very good, but 3d IMAX will blow me away

330534, I just saw the 3D Imax preview - Completely Blown Away!
Posted by noahbird, Wed Nov-14-07 03:01 AM
Let me say I'm already a huge fan of the 3D stuff that's been coming out over the last few years.

I agree this won't be nearly as good in 2D and that there's probably little emotional resonance or depth to be had in the long run, but that aside, this was one of the most bat shit insane, balls to the wall, incredible film experiences I've EVER had (and I LOVE movies). It rocked my world and I'm still shell shocked.

So, if you can, see it in 3D Imax!!!! Try and set aside expectations (I knew very little going in), don't sweat some of the slower moments, weaker performances or corny moments (that I personally loved) and just get blown away by the sheer audacity and pure entertainment of it all.

Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Nov-14-07 04:19 PM
ALmost every positive review ive read has touched or focused on the 3d experience as making the movie amazing......does it actually hold serve when viewed normally? (and a couple of cats who saw it in this post, have mentioned the same thing)
330638, I was wondering the same thing....
Posted by Zombie Radio, Wed Nov-14-07 04:37 PM
Looks like I'll be peeping this at the IMAX this weekend, with a spliff of some Cali good. The trailers look kinda dope.

331202, they tried to modernize the "monster" roll
Posted by Allah, Fri Nov-16-07 05:55 PM
I mean the original depictions, she is just a "monster" but it's never clear what KIND of monster. There are MENTAL monsters, or MENTAL monstrosities in morality.
331221, RE: they tried to modernize the "monster" roll
Posted by SepiaSylph, Fri Nov-16-07 08:32 PM
*thumbs down* I mean, you're right. But.

Can we just get a super badass b!tch of a female monster for once?

Posted by DonKnutts, Fri Nov-16-07 02:03 PM
and i couldn't imagine seeing it any other way. it's very entertaining
331200, It's a GREAT FLICK and it's NOT "over the top".
Posted by Allah, Fri Nov-16-07 05:53 PM
It's a pretty mature flick. It's not totally accurate to the original Beowulf Story, but you see how the alter addition get's sown up so that the "original" story could still be told. Lots of SUBTLE morality issues going on in this flick. Peace.
331211, beowulf blazed

331234, Beowulf in 3D was an amazing experience
Posted by HighVoltage, Fri Nov-16-07 09:40 PM
the animation and 3D is nothing short of stunning.

and the movie was very good on top of that.

the ONLY way to see this is in 3D, dont even bother with 2D.
331241, Meh, I found the whole thing rather silly... even in IMAX 3D (SPOILERS)
Posted by ZooTown74, Fri Nov-16-07 10:25 PM
But then again I know that I'm not in the teen boy target demo

Still, I can't recommend it

All of the Austin Powers-esque jokes with Beowulf prancing around ass naked got tiresome

As did the sarcastic clapping, which I swear I saw at least 5 characters do

The story was halfway interesting, and some of the visuals were admittedly cool, but overall, no for me

Posted by REBELOUTKAST, Sat Nov-17-07 09:17 AM
I saw it last night the 1st hour is graet but then.... it would ve been better with a R rating . It is by know means as much of a guy movie as 300. but the 3D or REAL D was dope.
Im Out like Kast
331299, Not a guy movie? nigga that was some good CGI TITS AND ASS (no junglo)

Grendel was slaying fools, this flick would have easily been rated R if it were live action.
And why the fukk did it's head pop off like that when he went in the cave? In the version I read he fought Grendel a second time and offed his head.
Kinda homo-erotic for no reason too. "wanna come inside and taste the Kings meat?" W...T....F

Not a good look when the best action scene is in the first 30 minutes tho.

GLAD I CHOSE TO RENT IT INSTEAD OF CATCHING IT AT THE THEATER. NOT IMPRESSED WITH IT AT ALL. FELL ASLEEP ON IT LIKE TWICE. IMO IT IS EASILY ONE OF LAST YEARS WORST FLICKS.
385405, it really needs to be seen on the big screen in 3D
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Sat Jul-12-08 01:29 PM
saw it in IMAX 3D and in a regular theater & there's absolutely no comparison at all. the 3D is amazing, there's almost no point in seeing it without it.
