303939, The Big Bang Theory [CBS]
Posted by Wordup, Sun Jul-29-07 06:37 PM
What you guys think of this sitcom? its kind of a sitcom based off that Beauty and the Geek reality show. The pilot is funny. Anyone see it? Seems like it has potential.

I actually caught a bit of the show.

It was okay, I guess. Heavy on the laugh track. I'm also not sure how long it could last for. The jokes will probably just end up essentially repeating themselves.
318434, wow..my bad man. how strange I titled exactly the same?!
Posted by JtothaI, Tue Sep-25-07 03:13 PM
odd.
319009, WAAAYYYYYYY too much laugh track
Posted by Ceej, Thu Sep-27-07 04:37 PM
and todays nerds arent like that at all
319012, Agreed
Posted by Wordup, Thu Sep-27-07 04:39 PM
>and todays nerds arent like that at all

I like still like the show, however.

319018, The dude in the red killed it, I enjoyed it
Posted by Ceej, Thu Sep-27-07 04:54 PM
I think they can chill on the laught track and they may have a good one here, HIMYM and BBT has the chance to be a pretty solid, funny hour
320097, ^ for the lazy mod
Posted by Ceej, Mon Oct-01-07 08:31 PM
320102, I didn't see the pilot, but I *really* enjoyed this episode
Posted by JungleSouljah, Mon Oct-01-07 08:57 PM
I'll tune in next week. Especially when it had me laughing much more than HIMYM. That entropy line, the Superman discussion, the "sarcasm sign", the whole bit getting the box up the stairs, and the initial cleaning the apartment scene were all damn funny. I don't know how long they can keep up all the comic geek and science/physics nerd references, but it has potential.

I'm hoping that it keeps up and that HIMYM returns to it's form from last season.
320260, the superman spiel was classic as was
Posted by JtothaI, Tue Oct-02-07 11:37 AM
and the look on the girls face before she turned around and went back to her apartment was classic. I really like the show.
320324, The part that had me rolling...
Posted by onethree, Tue Oct-02-07 02:47 PM
...was when dude came out to check for the intruder with the light saber. Truly lol on that piece.

The main two dudes have really good chemistry. The skinny cat's delivery is impeccable.

And hell - they remind me of R2D2 and C3PO. Funny ha ha's all through the ep.
320360, That shit was amazing
Posted by JungleSouljah, Tue Oct-02-07 05:28 PM
I was on the floor. I was waiting for him to start attacking a coat rack while making the lightsaber sound effects with his mouth.
320104, another strong episode
Posted by MigiTTy, Mon Oct-01-07 09:03 PM
i just hope everyone else loves the geek humor as much as the rest of us.

that whole superman argument was priceless.
320300, it had too too much laugh track, and i don't remember the supes part
Posted by Calico, Tue Oct-02-07 01:38 PM
...but i liked it....them goin up the steps was great, as well as her convo wit the indian guy...the sarcasm sign was good too...they need to flip it from such a 1990's nerd place....
320359, What laugh track?
Posted by JungleSouljah, Tue Oct-02-07 05:27 PM
I couldn't even hear a damn laugh track. I was laughing my own ass off the whole time.
320319, is that the dude from Suicide Kings?
Posted by HighVoltage, Tue Oct-02-07 02:23 PM
320452, I laughed a lot during that 2nd ep
Posted by Ceej, Wed Oct-03-07 07:25 AM
As mentioned before some great moments:

-The superman debate

-The lightsaber errrr I mean flashlight had me dyin

-and the supernerd with the turtleneck talkin to girl in "flawless" german was hilarious, GET USED TO IT!!!
320575, Saw episode 2
Posted by Wordup, Wed Oct-03-07 08:57 PM
This is good!
320613, i hate that fucking laugh track
Posted by osu_no_1, Wed Oct-03-07 10:37 PM
it makes things so much less funny

i just watched the first episode , might catch the 3rd but not that impressed

theres some REAL nerds writing this show, because its on point every week. haha
321602, HIMYM and BBT is the most consistently funny hour on tv right now
Posted by MigiTTy, Tue Oct-09-07 09:07 AM
IMO
321604, I agree I'm really liking the hour
Posted by Ceej, Tue Oct-09-07 09:10 AM
Hopefully BBT is doin numbers and CBS gives it a chance, I know HIMYM hasnt done that great but CBS knows its really good so they've been stickin with it. I think with the lack of sitcoms out there they should have longer leashes than usual.
321641, from what i remember HIMYM got renewed through 2010 this summer
Posted by MigiTTy, Tue Oct-09-07 12:26 PM
so hopefully they only have to worry about keeping the story and characters as engaging as they have been thus far.

as far as BBT, the only concern there is that the public won't take to the nerd humor. but maybe kaley cuoco's boobs will keep them coming back.
324611, Consistently, yes I agree.

323314, Its like a Roseanne reunion on this bitch

323318, this last episode was the best so far
Posted by Calico, Wed Oct-17-07 08:48 AM
ole girl from Roseanne has great presence and timing...
324608, the reunion continued tonight with sara gilbert
Posted by MigiTTy, Mon Oct-22-07 08:07 PM
another strong episode. sheldon is hilarious, and kaley cuoco isn't half as bad-looking as i used to think.
324782, you didn't think kelly was good looking?
Posted by Calico, Tue Oct-23-07 07:28 AM
i wasn't really diggin her on "8 simple rules" but after Charmed i thought she was pretty str8...
324850, i saw the potential on 8 simple rules, but i never saw her on charmed.
Posted by MigiTTy, Tue Oct-23-07 10:08 AM
and i just don't generally look for blondes on the whole (heh). but she's def on the radar.
324621, I love this show
Posted by Fisticuffs, Mon Oct-22-07 08:57 PM
i'm surprised kaley doesn't get more screen time. i thought they'd try to sell the show w/her but the two main nerds get the most time.
324632, Another good one also if ya didnt know ~ It got picked up for the season
Posted by Ceej, Mon Oct-22-07 09:23 PM

326971, This show can get too awkward at times
Posted by Wordup, Tue Oct-30-07 06:11 AM
The confrontation took way too long.

And very little humor.

326977, um. is it just me, or is this show gettin better?
Posted by Calico, Tue Oct-30-07 07:44 AM
this last episode was pretty great....if they had done the true comic nerd steeze and said "i'll be barry allen, you can be wally west, and he'll be Bart Allen", i would have LOST it...
326999, This show grows with each passing episode.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Oct-30-07 10:00 AM
The chemistry between the guys is simply great, and even Penny, who I hated at first, is coming into her own.
327008, I was actually happy when Raj got laid
Posted by B9, Tue Oct-30-07 10:16 AM
327012, me too
Posted by Calico, Tue Oct-30-07 10:34 AM
...hammer laid to the side...all from being qiet in the right place and right time...plus he relaxed at the end after gettin the affirmation from the girl
327060, I don't know if it's better, but it's certainly not worse
Posted by JungleSouljah, Tue Oct-30-07 01:54 PM
I'm so glad I jumped onto this show in the second episode. It's been hilarious so far.

Hilarious things from this ep:

- The Doppler effect costume
- everyone dressing as Flash
- "that's how we roll in the Shire"
- the hippocampus diss
- "how drunk am I?"
- "is this going to be a boy/girl party?"
- "c-o-n...uhh... frontation"

I really wish they'd develop Penny's character a bit more. In fact they could all use a bit of development, but they're doing hilarious stuff right now. The question is how long they can do geek/nerd jokes for.

I'm glad they got picked up though.
327205, hahaha...if we walk in a line all night...
Posted by JtothaI, Wed Oct-31-07 03:12 AM
it will look like we're moving really fast.

I literally....LITERALLY laughed SO out loud I could have startled a deaf man. lol

329010, Another excellent episode
Posted by JungleSouljah, Tue Nov-06-07 02:20 PM
I sort of like the animosity between Sheldon and Penny. It works well as she continues to get closer with Leonard. I really don't know how they're gonna resolve that tension without making it seem forced, but who knows. I never thought they'd be able to pull the geek thing off this well for 7 episodes.

Hilarious moments:
- the outgoing message on dude's voicemail
- the entire Chinese restaurant scene (basically Sheldon's OCD makes all food scenes hysterical)
- Penny murking fools in Halo
- the bathrobe scene
329063, RE: Another excellent episode
Posted by adam, Tue Nov-06-07 03:45 PM

>- the entire Chinese restaurant scene (basically Sheldon's OCD

I think this was my favorite scene of last night's. I liked when the waiter said he could "accidentally" drop one on the way to table, and nobody would know, and Sheldon said "I would."

I also liked a little later when they referenced it when talking about going dancing. I think the line was something about how ridiculous it would be to dance with 67% of a girl, or something along those lines.
329185, KosherCornhuskers and cashin Bah Mitzvah checks= hilarious

329073, "Big Bang Theory" employs a UCLA physics prof to check for accuracy (swipe)

There's a science to CBS' 'Big Bang Theory'
By Gary Strauss, USA TODAY
Revenge of the nerds?

Not quite. But geek heaven abounds on CBS' The Big Bang Theory (tonight, 8:30 ET/PT), one of the rare TV sitcoms to employ a physicist.

The science must be working: The freshman series is one of the fall season's few to gain traction, building audience from its How I Met Your Mother lead-in and averaging about 9 million viewers. CBS has already extended the show for a full season.

Bang's premise is basic fish-out-of-water buddy comedy, with a twist. Physicists/roommates Sheldon and Leonard (an homage to the legendary TV producer) are serenely comfortable in their pocket-protectored lives. But the two come unstrung when comely waitress Penny (Kaley Cuoco) moves in next door. She's no rocket scientist, but the sweet blond bombshell has plenty to teach the naive pair about life.

"Leonard and Sheldon are kind of rock stars in their world of science, but God knows they have a lot of growing to do when it comes to social graces," says Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard.

But the science gets some attention, too. David Saltzberg, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California-Los Angeles, checks scripts and provides dialogue, math equations and diagrams used as props. He says he's more consultant than contributor.

"Physicists love to nitpick, so for the 100 in the 10 million people who might watch the show, I try to get it as close to 100% accurate as I can," he says. "But if I try to suggest a funny line, there are all sorts of reasons it doesn't work." He does sometimes slip in an inside joke, though, such as the answers to a UCLA graduate class exam.

"Very often, we'll write a speech and say 'science to come,' " says executive producer Chuck Lorre. "Saltzberg fills it in. He's a terrific guy with a great sense of humor."

The cast also spent time at UCLA hanging with students and faculty, "stealing little bits of mannerisms and wardrobe," says Galecki, best known for playing Sara Gilbert's boyfriend on Roseanne. (Gilbert has a recurring role on Big Bang.)

Jim Parsons, who plays über-geek Sheldon, says spouting the scientific dialogue "can be a major pain in the (posterior). When we tape, I have to make sure I get up an hour earlier than I need to. I sit down with a physics dictionary."

A recent kiss was described as a "bio-social exploration with a neurochemical overlay."

Lorre and co-creator Bill Prady developed Bang off Prady's experiences as a computer programmer in the 1980s. "Bill told me these extraordinary stories about these insanely intelligent men who had unbelievable difficulty operating in the mundane world — geniuses who had trouble figuring out how much to tip a waitress," Lorre says.

Galecki and Parsons concede they're both a bit geekish in real life, qualities that help them relate to their characters. Galecki was largely tutored on-set from the third grade. His scientific knowledge is negligible, he says, but he understands what it's like to be an outsider.

So does Parsons, who was raised in football-crazed Texas but favored theater. Parsons says science isn't his strong suit, either: He once failed a meteorology class.

"None of this works if it's not relatable," he says, "if you don't see a bit of yourself in the characters."

IMO. Well, at least my favorite.

followed closely by (in no order) Tell Me You Love Me and Californication.

Those are the only new shows I committed to full time.

I tried Reaper (for kevin Smiths sake) and didn't care for it.
329186, Any1 else check the Lorre Production notes @ the end of each ep??

Posted by JungleSouljah, Wed Nov-14-07 06:17 PM
which for a second I thought had something to do with the fact that it was Veteran's Day when the show aired. But then I realized it was more likely because of the WGA strike.
330668, Right

329226, Production halted on this show due to strike

I don't remember where I read it yesterday, but apparently it has ended. It didn't say how many eps were in the can.

330484, Saw it, thought it was good not great
Posted by JungleSouljah, Tue Nov-13-07 06:33 PM
It's nice to know they can do a show that doesn't lean heavily on Leonard, Sheldon and Penny. It wasn't my favorite episode. I didn't really care for the "Indian parents on the computer" angle or for Sheldon convincing himself that the girl was the Princess from his "Indian folk tale".

But again it was far better than How I Met Your Mother. I'd say it's my favorite comedy on TV at the moment. Maybe even better than The Office.
330497, Solid episode
Posted by THRILLHOUSE, Tue Nov-13-07 07:47 PM
I didn't think it was the best episode, I would go with the Halloween ep or last weeks as the best. This is probably my 3rd favorite new show of the season behind Pushing Daisies and Reaper.
330538, i saw it...liked it...
Posted by Calico, Wed Nov-14-07 07:40 AM
...i agree that it wasn't the strongest episode, but this show and Carpoolers seem to easily be the best new comedies around...i liked that as soon as he started drinkin ole boy could talk to Penny...
358506, up for the return

a good episode, the "fight" was good comedy.
358510, meh. i can't get into this.
Posted by FortifiedLive, Tue Mar-18-08 12:01 PM
i watched last night's ep. i'm a mechanical engineer, so all this talk about drag coefficients and moment of inertias actually make sense to me, and just seems so damn corny. i probably only laughed at the "fight". i'll give it ONE more shot next week.
358550, you gotta see the halloween episode
