It's like if Ryan Leaf finally had a good game and another QB got all the credit for it.

It's a guy who's never made it big getting upset because someone else made it by cheating. That's all it is now. Maybe if they went about it in a better manner, dare I say, a more professional manner, they could have done something with it. But now they are just going back and digging through the Mencia files and pointing out other shit.

I get it. If Ari's taping Mencia's new shit and showing that he's continuing to steal, maybe he'd have something but right now I think most people are over hearing about this.

That's the way those guys chose to deal with it. They're both huge and probably felt, "Fuck it. It's not hurting me." Rogan is huge too and he obviously felt, "Fuck it. This is wrong and I'm gonna say something about it." Neither of them is going about it the wrong way.

Just because you're sick of hearing about it, doesn't make it any less valid. I hope they keep pounding this douche bag on this issue over and over again. Why? Because he's a fucking joke thief. He's the bad guy. Not them.

Blaming the US people for John Kerry fucking up his campaign is ridiculous. The US is mostly idiots. True. But Kerry thought the best way to win idiots is to stand for nothing and to waffle and hopefully not piss anyone off. It was a joke. One of the worst run campaigns since Dukakis (except Dukakis had no chance of beating Reagan. Still, putting him in the tank for a photo op was awful)

Ari Shaffir will get exposed to lots of people he wouldn't otherwise get exposed to.

Rogan is already nearly as big as Mencia as a standup and bigger than him as a guy. Rogan has had two network TV series. And he's actually funny. So he's doing OK.

Listen: Rogan has always HATED joke thieves. He's going to be on my show, so I've been reading interviews with him where he talks about originality in comedy and not being a thief from years ago. He just has principles.

I have no problem with Rogan as a comic. I just think he's handling this in the wrong way.

And personally, I hope Ari fails. I've been meaning to write something about this on my site but I think he's pretty much everything that's wrong with edgy comedy nowadays. I'll throw it in my sig when I finally write it but I think the shock racist comedy is one notch below stealing material in terms of laziness.

I think both Shaffir and Rogan want exposure, but I get the impression they're sincere about it as well.

I just think they are going about it all wrong.

I know Mencia steals. I get it. I got it the first time Rogan brought it up. But Ari's joke was generic and the fact that they are obsessing about this is getting to be pathetic.

The way Rogan and Ari are going about this makes them look pathetic IMO. Mencia made it in a fucked up way. Great. Tell your friends to boycott him. Get other performers to refuse to work with him. But this public whining makes them look bad as much as it does Mencia IMO.

But isn't that exactly what the public "whining" is doing? It is getting people to boycott him and refuse to work with him. It is informing the average person and comedy fans alike. What better way to spread your message than using outlets such as Youtube, blogs, radio shows, etc?

If you want to try to cut Mencia down, you start with an organized, united front. Don't throw random shit out here and there, pulling from Lopez's Stern intervew (rather than getting George himself to speak out along with them), and acting like "we found Carlos stealing again!" and then showing a clip that's like two years old. People get that he steals and most average people are probably already over it. It's too late to put together a comprehensive piece IMO. They should have put it together in the beginning so that it had more of an effect.

Once the first blow up occurred, put together a comprehensive list of everything to show Mencia's true colors. That will get people's attention. Now Ari seems to be doing it because none of their other antics have had much effect. Personally, I think they are making themselves look bad and taking the focus off Mencia (although I think Ari's routine on his own does a pretty good job of making himself look like a jackass).

I'm not defending Mencia but I simply don't agree with the juvenile way that Rogan and Ari have handled this.

The reason that comics get so pissed about this is that every show they're trying out one, two maybe even a whole set of new bits to work with, then going back and building on what worked and either shitcanning or rehabilitating what didn't. A guy that gets big while filling in gaps in his act with other people's stuff is a big fucking deal to people who are legitimately "grinding" as you say Mencia is. When he's getting big, he isn't getting his. He's getting theirs.

It's the same reason blues musicians got pissed at Led Zeppelin, the Stones, or Elvis when they first came out.

It's not just the fence joke. George Lopez got physical with the guy because he felt that insulted by the depths of his thievery.

And yes, people have similar premises all the time. But if multiple people are calling you a thief and instead of denying it, you spend time calling them jealous...you're probably not just coming up with the exact same joke as all these other people.

And even if he didn't steal that Cosby joke, he's still kind of a slacker for not being familiar enough with "Himself" to realize that it's already been done.
