Never saw Return of the King so that's out.

I saw Million Dollar Baby after all of the hype so I was pretty disappointed. I didn't mind Crash when I saw it but I didn't get the hype at all. A Beautiful Mind was a TV movie.

The Departed
Chicago
Crash
Million Dollar Baby
A Beautiful Mind
259057, yeah, same here

i found it kind of corny and overdrawn at times, like a hallmark channel movie of the week. though the acting of course was top notch.

A Beautiful Mind = straight garbage

Yeah, LOTR was Oscar bait, but dammit I loved it anyway

I wanted to kill myself 10 minutes after Chicago started, but I just hate musicals by default. I still bet it was better than A Beautiful Mind though

MDB was good outside of the agenda pushing

So...

LOTR
MDB
Chicago
A Beautiful Mind

Million Dollar Baby
Chicago
259083, *?uestion* Why so much "Chicago" hate?
Posted by Nukkapedia, Tue Feb-27-07 09:08 AM
Renée Zellweger can't dance well, and Richard Gere can't sing, but the material is strong enough so that it works around them.
259199, I was wondering the same thing
Posted by Big Chief Rumbletummy, Tue Feb-27-07 03:05 PM

Is it just a distaste for musicals or was it the film itself? Because I thought the adaption of the stage show was done brilliantly and honestly can't find a weak point in the film, which I can easily do in all of the others mentioned.

I disagree with your assessment of Miss Zellweger though, I remember thinking that her perfromances were more enjoyable that Miss Zeta Jones, and I kept hearing how CZJ was the more experienced song-and-dancey of the two.
259272, Miss Zellweger does not know how to move all that well.
Posted by Nukkapedia, Tue Feb-27-07 05:44 PM
I mean, she's okay, and I guess - considering her character - that was enough.

Catherine was okay.

Richard Gere, singing or dancing? Eh.
259233, the material was NOT strong
Posted by mc_delta_t, Tue Feb-27-07 04:23 PM
259271, Why don't you think so? What was weak about the story & songs?
Posted by Nukkapedia, Tue Feb-27-07 05:42 PM
259084, 1) LOTR
Posted by McDeezNuts, Tue Feb-27-07 09:11 AM
2) Crash
3) A Beautiful Mind

It's a toss up between Crash and Beautiful Mind - I loved them both. I went with Crash, but mostly because I've seen it more recently.

Haven't seen Chicago (never wanted to), Million Dollar Baby (probably will eventually although I already know the ending), or The Departed (it's on my Netflix for this week).

The Departed
Lord of the Rings (I'm considering this the whole LOTR trilogy, as I think the academy was considering it as well)
Million Dollar Baby
Chicago

Crash, which sucks in retrospect, but I liked when I watched it.
and A Beautiful Mind, which I found unbearably sucky from jump.

259088, Goddamn that's a horrible list

Either didn't see or hated every single one of these. Especially Crash which may be the worst Best Picture ever.

1. The Departed - great movie. though I still voted Casino in my poll.

2. LOTR: Return of the King - it's good. very good, but not for me. the battle scenes were amazing. the homoerotic hobbits were annoying. the 15 endings made me wanna rip my eyes out.

3. Million Dollar Baby - not a bad movie but nothing spectacular. her 'greedy white trash' family was notibly terrible.

4. A Beautiful Mind - i don't remember much about it, but it's one of those decent movies that gets pegged as garbage because of the award (and yeah I know you can say the same about most of 'em).

5. Chicago - I haven't seen it but I'm positive it's better than Crash.

6. Crash - Worst.Best.Picture.Winner.Ever. Jesus that movie sucks.
259100, Now why you wanno go and do that love huh?

These are a conspicuous grouping of some of my favorite movies.

I'm not sure how to order these...I'm even feeling conflicted about putting them in this line order (notice no numbers)

259335, I honestly would not have seen you picking Departed over Chicago
Posted by DubSpt, Tue Feb-27-07 09:04 PM
But hey, this is what happens during time away I suppose.
259409, I know you didn't like it. I, however, was wildly entertained.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Feb-28-07 12:08 AM
Chicago is really good. Really, really good. And being unfairly hated on right now. But I don't know, I just really dug The Departed.
259485, I had numbers 1 and 6 pegged
Posted by DubSpt, Wed Feb-28-07 10:08 AM
And I don't want it to seem like I hated The Departed or anything, it just bothered me how much love it got when I felt like it went wrong in a lot of ways.

And the film that ends up being "worst" I consider much better, and would watch before, several hundred other films.

I really REALLY liked:
>Chicago
>LOTR: Return of the King

Was a fine film but not my cup of the tea:
>Million Dollar Baby

Was hackneyed and jive in some ways, but had that technically perfect Ron Howard trademark visual presence with great performances all around:
>A Beautiful Mind

HAVE NOT SEEN:

That being said...

1. The Departed
2. Return of the King
3. Million Dollar Baby
4. Chicago
5. A Beautiful Mind
6. Crash

But I can honestly say I don't like any of those movies.

Also, randomly, did I tell you about the book I found in Chris' car?
