245403, I challenge you to name a good "inspirational" film
Posted by DubSpt, Sun Jan-14-07 09:23 PM
Cause I can't think of one. Of course, I generally hate inspirational films, so it's only natural I can't think of one. Still, I don't know if one even exists. Try to prove me wrong.
245404, Shine
Posted by The Damaja, Sun Jan-14-07 09:29 PM
Patch Adams
8 Mile
245406, I havent even seen shine
Posted by DubSpt, Sun Jan-14-07 09:33 PM
But if it's half as good as Patch Adams AND 8 Mile... it must be an enormous piece of shit.
245412, Shine is much better than them, but your hate on PA and 8 Mile
Posted by The Damaja, Sun Jan-14-07 09:56 PM
is unnecessary
245410, Pursuit of Happyness does not suck
Posted by buckshot defunct, Sun Jan-14-07 09:44 PM
Nor does Rocky, Cinderella Man (something very inspiring about watching a guy beating the shit out of another guy, isn't there?)...a handful of other sports flicks

Let's see what else...

Malcolm X
It's a Wonderful Life
Shawshank Redemption
Lean on Me
An American Tail

There's a ton.

still has me marinating on my life, and wondering how i can help folks come up in the world.

It's a documentary, so it might be outside the scope of what you were talking about, but it was a great movie (except for the portuguese translation pissed me off...)
245615, I came in here to post this.
Posted by MarauderOL, Mon Jan-15-07 01:38 PM
Easily had the most immediate and long lasting effect on me.

And co-sign on the translation. I'm glad I saw it in theaters first, because the "cut off" subtitles would have got it sent back to Netflix with the quickness!!
245628, the thing about the translation
Posted by GOMEZ, Mon Jan-15-07 02:15 PM
that pissed me off was that they they changed some stuff around to make it sound better in english, and i was hoping for a more direct translation so i could practice my portuguese comprehension (i have problems with the carioca accent still). They generally got the idea right, but i just thought they changed the wording too much.

The movie is ill, though.

I rewatched this recently, and it got me to wondering...

how much more productive would i be in my everyday life if Morgan Freeman just followed me around and yelled at me through a bull horn, and chained me into my office so there'd be no distractions, and carried a bat just in case i tried to buck a little bit...

I think it would help.
